Saturday Scrap & Share....
Out of the mouths of babes....
We have a routine when we get in the Incredible minivan. I do a roll call and each person says, "Check" if he/she has a seatbelt on.
So today, this is what was heard in our van.
Me: "Mommy.... check"
Me: "Violet..."
Violet: "Check."
Me: "Dash..."
Dash: "Check."
Me: "Jack- Jack..."
Jack-Jack: (17 months): "Check!"
HUGE LAUGHTER, because Violet usually does the "Voice" of Jack-Jack, and we had no idea he knew how to play the "check" game!
He is getting to be really cute and funny with his talking. After we pray, he always puctuates a loud :A-MEN!"

Strange things are happening.....
To borrow from the movie for which this blog is named, "uh, strange things are happening!" You see, when Jack Jack was a baby, he was... well, a baby. He cried and it was pretty easy to "fix" him with the typical baby stuff... food, rocking, holding, sleep.
Well, our Jack-Jack is becoming a person. Suddenly, it seems, he has arrived on the scene to announce, "Hey! Everyone listen up! I have important things I want to do! I want to do them now, and I want to do them my way! They are very cool, so do not mess with my plans or someone is gonna get hurt!"
Only, because he can't even begin to say any of that, this is how it usually sounds......... "WAAAHHH!"
We are, indeed, superheroes, but all the fussing is beginning to wear us down. There are some things we have found thus far, though: Jack-Jack really enjoys telling what sounds different animals make, ie. What does a doggie say? "Woof woof!", etc. This game will usually gain us a full ten fuss-free minutes. He also loves to eat, but this can lead to some frustration because WHAT he wants to eat is not always what I am feeding him at that very moment, so there is usually a lot of screaming involved at meal time. We are trying to teach him not to scream at meals, but thus far it has been an uphill battle to say the least.
Today I built BC Builders I Fell Tower with him for a half hour, just building it up and letting him knock it down with the dinosaur. He really liked that, and that is when it occurred to me that much of the fussing that is going on in this phase is likely due in part to boredom. I am going to try directing him to certain activities and at least getting him started with them, and changing frequently for variety. We will see what happens. I should also get out my old trusty toddler standbys, Barbara Curtis' Small Beginnings and Slow and Steady Get Me Ready, and those will give me some things to do with him or help Violet and Dash to do with him.
If you have any Incredible ideas, I would love them! I know that this too shall pass, but some creative ideas in the meantime can only help!

"Whee!! I'm one!"

"I'm part of an Incredible family!"
**consider this one especially Incredible because out of 486,572 shots, this was the only one where everyone was even remotely looking at the camera :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK-JACK!!!
Jack-Jack is 1 today!
A whole year has passed since I held the little, wet, precious baby boy in my arms for the very first time... how can that be possible? People always say that time flies and kids grow up so fast, but I think that it is getting faster with each successive child. It seems like I just had him, and already he is one! On the other hand, he is such an integral part of our family, I can't imagine ever not having him in our family.
Jack-Jack, you have had an amazing first year. The first thing I learned about you was that you are a happy, contented little soul... of my three babies, you were the most content. You have been loved on nearly every minute of this first year by your sister, brother, and a mom and dad who love you more than we would have ever thought possible.
This year has seen you enter the world and grow in so many ways. You started out a precious 8 pound bundle who just slept and ate most of the time, and today you are a smily, chatty, active, happy 20 pound little boy! I will never forget your firsts- like the way you got your first tooth not one, but two at a time- first teeth! And the way you learned to stand... I heard you screaming in your bed and when I went in you were standing and holding on to the corner of the crib rail for dear life because you had pulled yourslef up and were scared to get down!
I know you are too little to remember, but I will always remember all of the snuggly times this first year held for us. All of the nursings, and they way you like me to hold you tight and kiss you all over- it makes you giggle! One of my most treasured times with you is when you wake up smiling big next to me in bed in the morning and we have cuddle and kissy time where you coo to me and smile at me as if I am the only one in the world.
Without you, Jack-Jack, we would just be a "regular-old" family of four. You make our family Incredible, and we love you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUDDY!
