Florida Homeschooling Mom...Among Other Things
Nov. 10, 2006
the process has started and other musings

Well, I sent my initial applicatin to the adoption agency and my I600A to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services yesterday.  My hope is to have our little girl from Guatemala in our home by next Thanksgiving. Lord willing sooner, but I'm trying to be realistic here.  It's amazing, but I'd kind of shut off my heart from girl things, being the mom of only sons for the last 11 1/2 years.  My mom got me a statue called "Emma" from Isabel Bloom for my birthday (I asked for it) and I received it yesterday.  My oldest son was laughing because I was stroking the "hair" of the statue.  I wander through the baby section looking at little girl clothing (I can't buy any yet because she will be between 4-10 months when she comes home, so I need to wait ).   The next step is the Home Study.  It makes me a little nervous.  Actually what makes me even more nervous, I have to get a letter from my doctor stating that I'm healthy enough to have a child.  I believe I am, I just hate asking my doctor anything.  The man won't look me in the eye, in fact he sits with his back to me most of the time.  It's not personal, I know he does it to everyone, but it's still disconcerting.

On other subjects, my youngest just finished Math U See Alpha yesterday, yeah!  Not bad, he finished it in about 3 1/2 months.  I purchased Beta on eBay, but it's been 2 1/2 weeks and no sign of a package.  I've e-mailed through eBay twice and even got her contact information and left her a phone message.  No reply.  So I've gone one step further and opened a dispute with Paypal.  I hate to do it, but I have paid for something I haven't received and the woman won't communicate with me.  Frustrating, because I've never had a problem with eBay people before.  And he really wants to start his new book.  I figure if I end of getting a refund, I'll just go to the Math U See site and buy direct from them.  I haven't been able to find what I need on any of the other sites other than eBay.  I know I shouldn't be supporting them, but I was trying to get a deal.  And see where that got me.

My hubby is taking me out for my birthday this weekend (it's on Monday), I haven't decided which movie to go to, there are actually about 5 I would be open to see, and that doesn't happen much, in fact hardly ever.  Decisions, decisions.....

Happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend.

May the Lord bless you as you wait for your little girl. Are you going to name her Emma? I have an Emma so I'm a little biased on the name.

Blessings,

Angela

I know that words won't really calm you down, but the homestudy is a piece of cake. It feels a little like you are in a fishbowl, but it is not nearly as stressful as the weeks leading up to it. Since I have recovered from acute renal failure and have marginal renal function, I worried about my doctor's note too, but don't forget, you are asking if you are healthy enough to parent a child not to go through pregnancy.

I will be resubmitting my I-600A as my initial approval has expired and we are still waiting.

Nov. 15, 2006 - Hi there.

I'm just checking in on you.

Wow. This is exciting that you are trying to adopt a little girl from Guatemala. May the Lord bless your road. I know it can be a backwards country as far as the whole adoption process goes. Some go smoothly, and I pray yours will too.

I had a bad experience with ebay last year at Christmas time. I lost about $20, but also lost my confidence in using ebay. I hope your package comes soon.

I just stopped by to 'catch up' and see how things were going. I'm excited for you about your adopting a child! We will be praying for you. My honey and I are talking/praying about the same thing. We've only been married less than a year, but we don't know how fertile I am. I have a 13yo daughter but so far, no more. We want a big family and always knew that adoption would play a role-Lord willing. I will definately check back for updates!

Blessings,
Traci :)

We're in the adoption process as well (domestic) and are awaiting our homestudy in the beginning of January. Our process is much different than an international. I'll be praying for you!!!

Well, I haven't blogged much in the last couple of months, and I see you all have been busy. Except you haven't blogged much either. I'd love to hear the updates of how your homestudy is going. Since we've adopted twice from Guatemala, it is very special to us.

Stopped by to say Hi. I was wondering how your adoption process is going. I know from experience, and that of others, that things can get held up sometimes. I hope all is going well and smoothly for you. I'd love to hear an update.
