• Mar. 29, 2007 - Story of the World

Hi everyone!  I have a question...I'm considering Story of the World for history next year and am wondering if anyone has used it and would be willing to share their experiences using it.  My children will be in Kindergarten and 2nd grade and I really like what I see, but of course it always helps to get the opinion of those who have used the product!  Thanks to anyone who will leave me a comment!  Grace and peace to you and yours!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Story of the World!!!!! Can you tell I like it? :) Seriously, I used it with my 5th grader this year. Next year we are going to use it again (the Middle Ages) but along with Mystery of History (written for 4-8th grade). Story of the World was written for grades 1-4 but can be simplied for younger children or with things added can be used for older children. I even learned things from reading the book. It is not as Christian as some people want, but it was written by a preacher's wife so it doesn't have anything anti- Christian or bad in it. She tried to write it in a more neutral tone. This can be easily over come with just talking about it or adding some Bible or Christian stories along with it. As for the book itself, the stories are very readable and enjoyable. The activities in the activity book are really great too. Your youngest one may need a little help but I think they will learn a lot from this book. Have you seen the book? If you poke around, you may be able to find some examples of it. I know Rainbow Resource on their website sometimes shows a page or two from different books. Good Luck!

to read this, but we used SOTW and really liked it. It has a great activity book to go along with it. I used it for my dd when she was doing 1st grade and I'm bringing it back for the same dd as a 5th grader and her sister who's about to be a 1st grader. You might take it slow with a K-er and explain it a lot, but it'll probably be fine.

You've got a great blog! I so wish my dh could do my hair! What a blessing! With 4 girls, you know I pay a lot just for hair cuts, lol!
