Why do public schools (and private ones, for that matter) have the children selling crap for them with their annual fundraisers? Why should the children have to do that? Not everyone is able to homeschool, and not everyone wants to, and that is fine. So our schools should have all the money they need! It's really sad, when you think about it. When the neighborhood kids come to your door and ask you to buy chocolate and wrapping paper, because the schools are so underfunded they must pimp the children.
Simple answer, they want the money. It starts with fundraisers, then goes to class fees and buying tons of other stuff for public school, not all those chidren have the money. Greed is a good word. God Bless
That kind of merchandising really bothers me. My siblings send me brochures and things to buy stuff to support their kids' schools. I don't like my love for my nieces and nephews being manipulated to try to get me to pay money to support their public schools - isn't my tax money already supporting the public school system? And, on top of that, I'm paying out of pocket for my entire curriculum for my own children - and I know it wouldn't go over well if I asked my siblings to help foot the biil for our school-books. It's a dirty and underhanded way for businesses like Hershey's to make a buck.
...that so many people don't mind their kids going around begging for us to buy this overpriced junk, but some of those same families have a problem with their kids going around and trick or treating because it is 'begging'....LOL
Sorry, I don't know where that came from or what it has to do with anything, but we always hated these fundraisers when we were in ps. OTOH we LOVED trick or treating.
We would just make a donation and then I'd go and BUY my kids whatever junky prize they were hoping to 'win' with sales...actually, usually something better. It isn't as if they really need that crap anway, and yeah, it is the businesses running the fundraisers who are really making money on the backs of children and in the name of 'supporting education'. BUNK!
The problem isn't so much that schools are underfunded, I think it has more to do with mismanagement of the funds they receive.

I believe in homeschooling from birth on. From the day my son was born, I've done everything I can to teach him about how the world works. Life is school. Learning is life.
