About Me

I am a blessed homeschooling mother of 6 married to my best friend Jim who is a naval aviator. Between deployments, moving, and new babies, life around our house is never dull for long and can often be quite entertaining. I've been told I should start writing it all down, so here goes...

"Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12

"But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." Hebrews 3:13

Dear Diary...
Country Pedlar by Norman Rockwell

Well, I've got a very long serious post in my head, but am too lazy to write it tonight, so I'll let it stew a while longer.  Hopefully it will come out better once all the flavors have blended.

This will be very random, because that is my life right now.  All these unconnected little pieces and problems that need working out.  I feel inadequate, but I've learned that is really the best way to feel, because when we feel like we have it all together we are headed for a fall.

I keep seeing problems in my children's attitudes and I know I need to appeal to them from the Word of God, but they are attitudes I still struggle with, and I pray, "Lord, how can I train them if I still haven't got it figured out?"

I'm so thankful for the people around us who set good examples and come alongside to help.  We are in a great church!

The older three children spent the morning at a field trip so I got to revisit the BT days (before teens).  We went to the mall, something I haven't done in ages.  I don't think malls are good for teenagers.  But I needed a few new t-shirts and some moisturizer and it seemed like the perfect opportunity.  I was at the cosmetic counter and the lady helping me said, "I just can't believe how well behaved your children are!" and it sort of took me by surprise and I realized that I really take my children for granted when they are doing what they are supposed to be doing, so I made sure to give them a little extra encouragement when we got home.

Although, we hear that a lot, even when our kids are just acting like normal kids.  I can't figure out if people are expecting trouble from us because we are a large family, or if other kids are just really that bad.

And can I just say that some things are just worth spending a little extra on?????  I have tried several times over the past 15 years to switch to a cheaper moisturizer and my face breaks out every time.  I always force myself to finish the jar and so the agony is prolonged.  I ran out this week!  HOORAY!  And got to go buy my tried and true Prescriptives Comfort Cream.  I swear my face said "AAAAAAHHHHHHH" when I put it on tonight.

One last thing--I noticed last night that the water coming out of the tap was scalding hot.  It happened again this morning when I got in the shower.  What???  I finally went out to check the hot water heater and the dial was turned all the way up.  Very mysterious.  I was imagining all sorts of wierd scenarios involving mischievous neighborhood children.  I turned it back down and made sure the garage door stayed closed all day.  This evening I went out to get meat out of the freezer, and when I turned around to go back in there was Littlebit cranking up the dial.  She had followed me out and was apparently fascinated by the bright red warning label.  I surely never suspected my one year old of  the sabotage!

I do like reading rambling posts, it encourages me.
I'm not sure if its the size of your family or just how kids act now a days. I get the same thing too sometimes when we are out, that my children are so well behaved. But part of it is probably the size too. People see lots of children and expect trouble.
I understand about the attitude thing. I deal with that all the time. How can I expect my children to change their attitude when I get the same one? It's a hard one.
That is cute about the water heater. Ours is closed up behind a wall in Sarah's bedroom (don't ask me why, we just rent here), so there's no easy way to turn it up, thankfully. :)

People notice your kids behavior because most kids really ARE misbehaved....they are good kids and I'm not saying that out of bias....it's the truth. Teenagers are a whole different breed though....good luck with that! I worry about you. xoxo

I so glad you are a light unto the world and even when you don't know it.

Yeah for pampering yourself. From this day forward make sure you get THE moisturizer you LIKE. You deserve it my friend. (((HUGS)))

Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC
