Keeping on Keeping on

Posted in Jacob

Jacob is content just plugging away at his studies.  Nothing specific to report on here, except for a few things.

  1. He has had a wonderful attitude, completing his work quickly and independently every day.
  2. He is reading The Magicians Nephew independently and enjoying it.
  3. He is learning the themes to the books of the Bible.  He knows through 1Samuel, but it gets iffy after that.  I'd like to get him to Obediah before the end of the week.  (This is a feat that his sisters haven't even accomplished.)

Way to go Jacob, on all the hard work!!

Oral Presentations

Posted in Jacob

My son, who despises reading, must work on his oral presentation skills for language arts this week.  He has decided on poetry, which surprised me.  He could chose prose (well, I knew that would be out.  He would view it as too much work.), scripture (He already knows several passages of scripture.  I thought he would pick this.), or poetry.  Since he doesn't know any poetry, he visits the token poet in our family...His Sister, Jessica.

She gave him her Emily Dickenson collection.  We'll see what he chooses.  I think I may have him look at my Longfellow collection.  I think that may be more his style.

History

Jacob & I have been taking a journey into Ancient Egypt for the last several weeks.  It's been a blast!  He has learned much of the geography of Egypt & how the civilization formed.  Today we get to look at the construction of the Great Pyramid.  I know he's thinking, "Finally!".

FINALLY!!  Jacob was able to work through his long division without getting himself thoroughly confused.

Now he's moving on to bigger and better things.  Angles.
