A Tricky Change in Bedtimes...

kay has not bn qt herself these last few evenings & mornings. she seems very v tired.

when i look at the reasons, i realise that it's bn a big adjustmnt turning 4yrs and being without a stroller, and still haviing to keep up. she's managed, but she's lookiing exhausted, even b4 the day is started and again when it's over. so today i'm setting things right...

a new plan swings into action tmw:-

a) i aim to put kay to bed 1hr earlier, and b)  give ky 1:1 dad/mom time during that extra hour.

how?:

1 -kay and ky will sitll go in the room together for snuggle-time, but it wiill be at 8pm instead of 9pm.

2- kay will hv her story and ky wll hv just 1 page of his (instead of the whole book). then we'll hv prayers and ky will lv the room. then kay wll hv her milk and fall asleep, hopefully by 8.30/9pm

3 -while i'm with kay, instead of going to sleep early, ky will go to daddy in our room and he wll quietly read him a malay storybook.  (kills 2 birds wiith 1 stone:-  malay finally gets some airtime, and ky gets some much-needed daddy-time)

4 -when i am done wth kay, i  will take over from dh and finish reading ky his englsh storybook, then settle him to bed.    all being well, ky shd be asleep by 9.30pm.  "cool" says ky when he hears of the plan. "that's fantastic!" he chortels...  :b

....in closing the conversation, i requested that kay for now not be made aware of 'the changes'.....

"no secrets in the family" was ky's immediate come-back. :) dh and  were gob-smacked.

"is it e title to one of yr books?"  i asked dh, befuzzled... "you've dug us into a hole" he responded quietly... "it's not my book".

"no, i just saw it somewhere," kynan said smiling.  "well yr right" i said, smiling back.

"just a trick to get her to sleep early" explained  hubby... helping me out of the hole...  ;)

****yikes, parenting can be a treachorous journey!   now let's see how the new plan goes...

let the little children lead you huh? its so interesting to be told off by your kids. It happens to me at times too. I hope things work out and Ky gets his male bonding time. :)

I started weaning my dd from stroller last year. But we didn't do is so abruptly, pretty much the same way as i did with Mr E.

I started off by making them walk short trip, eg to the NTUC, get something simple and back. quick trip.

gradually, the trip gets longer till we finally realised we never bring the stroller along.

The transition and 'training' was so mild that both EZ hardly noticed that they were weaning from the stroller.

ya Delci, i know i shd probably hv bn more patient, but u know ky stopped when i was pg with kay. ie age 2yrs. so i've given her plenty of time. :) 'reckoned if i didnt set a date she'd be happy to still be relaxing in one when she's 6+yrs!

there's kids ky's age who battle to kp up with us sometimes, so i kp that in mind, taking e tiime to slow down and smell e roses... we've given e stroller away now, so no turnng back. ;)

and e earlier bedtime has done wonders for her...woke up like a cheery songbird today!... a very pleasant change indeed! :b

they both say now that they like "hiking", so am gearing up for something more strenuous sometime...mb bukit timah, folowed by mt kinabalu nxt year.

Erm, my dear... Ky is a boy!!! :)

Mr E started walking only at 18mo, but he ditched his stroller way before 3yo.

For Ms Z, she started walking at 1yo, but only started ditching her stroller around 3+yo.

anyway, glad that things are working out well for all of you :) I'm sure Kay will get used to it.
