ky tonite- "school is so so so fun mama, i wish i didnt have to have a break on saturdays! i wish i cd go to school that day also."
me- "don't worry my dear, u still have many more years of school to enjoy!"
ky- "oh ya!... but by then it will be more difficult ya? it's not gonna stay this easy rt?"
me- "you find it easy rt now?"
ky- "ya."
me- "well, that's good. yes it will get more difficult, but by then you'll also know more. and if any time u dont understand something, then u jus keep asking until u do. and if u still don't, then u just come and ask me...then we'll work it out together."
ky- "ya i know."
me- "so what's so much fun abt school then?"
ky- "sitting cross-legged and having stories in the morning while we wait."
me- "the ones u have to bring in to read?"
ky- "no, they tell us a story, but not today."
me- "what kind of story? Bible stories?"
ky- "er, i dunno. i'll tell u another time.... i also like playing in Aunty C's office. there were 15 of us in there today, and you know it is just half the size of my bedroom and we played freeze."
me- "is that a boardgame?" (thinking it cdnt possibly be the other kind considering the space constraints!)
ky- "no mum. for real. we moved one step forward and one step back, then she shouted 'freeze' and we all had to keep still."
me- "she plays this game with such a big bunch of u kids in her office?"
ky- "ya, me and x,y,z went there today. but there's lots of bigger rooms un-used, i think they shd give her one of those."
me- "i think i agree!... she sounds like a truly wonderful woman!"
ky- "oh and mum, do u know what's the 3rd thing that's fun for me?"
me- "what's that my dear?"
ky- "going home!"
me- "oh yea? how come?"
ky- "cos then i get to rest and play!" :)
***the above are just a few reasons why ky is really enjoying school rt now. oh, and he's just discovered a field behind a heavy gate, where they're allowed to kick about during recess.... and an excercise area where he can swing on the bars and do a few push-ups.... and the library...or the toys in Aunty C's office, ...or just messing about in the canteen. so many options... so little time!
****oh and they've just started a new book- "Sam, the flying man," he informs me... "but it's not very good", he says... "quite boring in fact!" he app found 'mrs wishy-washy' a much better read! :)
ah, i'm happy for him! and so glad it's all been delayed until now... a time when he's mature enough to enjoy it for what it is. i enjoyed my primary school yrs too! so i truly hope he continues to...
*****oh, and he has a project now::- to befriend 1 or 2 of the 'crying kids', share his 'special places' with them, and see if things can take a turn for the better. an uphill task perhaps, but let's see how it goes...
