There is a Happy Dale

Back to School

I had given the children a few days off but now we are back to work. We have so much to do.  It seems that if we even take a few days off we are all out of sorts when we start up again.  Is it that way for you all too?

I have been wondering.......what sort of curriculum do you use?

Do you unschool?

Do you belong to a homeschool group or co op?

Do you get support from you church people?

I will answer my own questions first.  I use School of Tomorrow (ACE). I belong to a homeschool group but I am not at all happy with it for myself.  It is nice for the kids but not really what I had hoped for for me. As for church, our pastor and his wife are grandparents but they feel that children should be in the public schools as evangelists.  I won't even go into the reason why there are holes in that theory! LOL  We all know them, that is why we homeschool.  It is very lonely when you go to a church that does not support homeschooling.

Yes, we do get all out of sorts when we take time off!

We actually belong to a couple of homeschooling groups but we don't participate in them very much. They're not very hard-core groups.

We don't unschool (my hubby is very switchy about our having lots of paperwork accomplished); we do a classical curriculum, more or less.

And I agree with you about the "evangelists in the public schools" comment. Bleah. Don't even get me started. We're the only homeschoolers in our tiny congregation but people are generally supportive of our choice.

Have a good week!

Hi :) I got your name from Titus2woman's friend list, I hope you don't mind!

I just started homeschooling my youngest, Emme Rose, in the fall. My 2 older children go to public school. I don't follow a set curriculum really. She is in kindergarten and I use Saxxon Math, 100 Easy Lessons (reading), and Everything Your Kindergartener Needs to Know. I also teach from the Bible, print outs from websites, and classic books. So, as you can see, I'm not real organized! LOL

I do belong to a homeschool group -- and they are WONDERFUL! The families are just so giving and caring. They are understanding and helpful! I am very blessed to have found them! I also have several friends who homeschool -- and they are the ones who introduced me to the idea.

My church's pastor is very supportive. The sisters who lead the homeschool group attend the church. (I did not know this when I joined!) It's a small, blessed world!

Jan. 5, 2006 - Homeschooling and church suport

Hi, I was just reading some random blogs after posting on my own and noticed that you said nobody homeschools with your church. That is sad. The church that I attend is very supportive. We have a homeschool suport group and we have approx. 40 families that homeschool in our church. Hopefully as homeschooling becomes more common you will find yourself in good company.
