"The hills are alive with the sound of music!"
This past week, the Hill Country literally was alive with the sound of music. We just finished up the first annual Chamber Music Festival put on by our music school, and it was a big success! Day one started off bright and early, we began working on our pieces that would hopefully be perfect by the end of the week, one of which was an original piece composed by Josh who recently posted about it. Needless to say, I think we were all a little bit intimidated by it that first day. But by the end of the week we had survived 5 full days of group practice, coaching, master class, and a whole lot of fun and were able to have a great performance. Along the way, Beth, Katy and I were able to perform in a concert with authentic Irish dancers who were absolutely incredible! Let's just say that I'm very inspired right now to go take some dance lessons .
On Saturday all of the chamber groups performed at least 2 of their songs in our final concert. I was in 4 songs, a beautiful arrangement of Come Thou Fount, an old traditional Scottish tune called Will Ye No Come Back Again, another arrangement of Come Thou Fount mixed in with Before the Throne of God Above, and finally, Josh's piece, From Night into Day.
We were also visited by three guest clinicians/coaches/teachers/whatever you want to call them, the Blue Rose Trio. If you've read my blog for a looooong time, you might remember the name--the came to play for our music school's fundraising dinner last year that we also performed at. We had so much fun with these guys! They helped us work through songs and kept us laughing all week long.
Every night there was a free concert at an old renovated movie theatre on historic Main Street.
Who knows what's going through her mind right now? Photo credit: KG
And finally, all of the sweet sisters with the Blue Rose Trio. |

Alabama...
Yup, I'm here. I won't be leaving until the whole debate season has ended. How depressing!
On a happier note, I've updated twice!!! Just not on this blog . A few of us ARCers are going to be collaborating to attempt to do some live blogging from Nationals. If anyone here is interested, you can take a look. Visit Paul's blog for the official AAA Updates (Adventures of ARC in Alabama).
To sum up the last few days VERY shortly...we visited the Creation Museum, Abe Lincoln's birthplace, visited with friends in Nashville, are visiting more friends in Huntsville, and are having a wonderful time on vacation.
Adios, everyone! |

The pictures of the day...
May. 31, 2008
I'm in Tennessee!
Howdy from the beautiful state of Tennessee! We got here yesterday after one grueling day of driving that included 5 stops before we ever got out of Texas due to a, well, carsick child that kept...uh...you get the picture. Our family vacation of the year has begun, and will finish at the National Championship in Birmingham, AL in about a week. Whew! What a day! We drove to Huntsville, AL in one day two years ago, so this wasn't our first time doing a 12+ hour day in the car, but it was still pretty tough.
Has anyone out there ever heard about the Annie Moses Band? I posted sometime last year about them after we went to a concert of their's. Anyhow, we've really enjoyed their music, probably because they are a family band, have six kids, play violin, viola, cello, etc, etc, etc. They are incredible musicians, and every time I listen to them play I become inspired to work on music a little bit harder . Well, I was on their website a few days ago, and happened to notice an invitation to come to a Christmas DVD shoot outside of Nashville on May 30th (In case you've lost track of the date, that was yesterday ). How convenient, I thought. We're driving into Nashville that very day!
Keep in mind that the drive was going to be at least 13 hours, with 6 children, some of whom are quite young and don't appreciate sitting still in the car for that long and then going to a two hour concert.
Well, the day didn't go as smoothly as we hoped...remember those 5 stops before the state line? Needless to say, I gave up all hope of going to the concert that night.
But somehow, we made up lost time, drove almost straight through Arkansas and Western TN, hopped out at a rest stop to change into nicer clothes, and pulled into TBN Studios just in the nick of time to slip on, grab a seat, and participate in the DVD shoot. We had a blast (everyone except Patti and Michael, who squirmed quite a bit ), it was funny listening to Christmas songs in May, but they were beautiful. Everyone needs to buy the DVD when it comes out later this year. On a side note, we're currently applying to get scholarships for a summer music program put on by AMB in Memphis, so hopefully we'll be back in TN in July!
I guess that wraps up Day 1 of our family vacation adventures. Now I'm going into full gear to finish getting ready for debate! |
