It is so nice to have a little puppy in our house.  The other day I just smiled at her and she ran back and forth excitedly just to see a smile.  I swear puppies have a spiritual discernment.  Our little puppy, Rosie, certainly knows when we are happy, sad, or angry, and acts appropriately.  It's so interesting to see.  When I am aware of her, she is more aware of me and responds to me accordingly.  I'm sure you dog lovers out there already have all this figured out, but I'm just learning.
