A text that has been reverberating in my head for the past few days is this: "A wise man scales the city walls of the mighty and brings down the stronghold in which they trust." Proverbs 21:22
In ancient times, the good kings went to the high places and tore down the strongholds that governed the region. For instance, some Israelite kings tore down the altars to Molech. This was where ancient rites of sacrificing babies was done. Today, we must climb the high places and tear down the strongholds that govern the United States. We must tear down the altars where unborn babies are sacrificed.
In the Old Testament is recorded other instances of tearing down the high places. Our high places are our minds. We must tear down the stronghold in which we trust. What do we put our trust in? Government, money, materialism. Whatever exalts itself above Christ rules a throne in our souls. I have been asking what thrones I need to give to God. I want these high places torn down so He can rule!
The high places were always important to the people in ancient times and many shrines were placed on mountain tops. I visited the high places of Delphi, the Acropolis, and the birthplace of Zeuss this time last year. While standing next to the Parthenon, I was pleased to see the highest place was occupied by a church in Athens. |
