Expecting a silly plot, I was unexpectedly surprised by the profound message in the movie Monsters vs. Aliens.  In the movie, a girl named Susan became engaged to a weatherman.  Like him, we should all be as weathermen, discerning the times and seasons.  This self-absorbed weatherman did not, however.  Struck by an unearthly power, Susan grew gigantic.  She was captured, imprisoned, and then released by her captors so she could fight a raging battle against alien forces.

Likewise, when we accept Jesus Christ we become engaged to marry the King of kings.  Filled with His Spirit, we contain the most powerful force inthe universe.  With Christ inside us, we can begin to walk out the amazing destinies for which we were designed since before the foundations of the earth. 

In the Bible, every fifty years is year of liberty.  Interestingly, this is the year of liberty.  Captives will be set free spiritually just as Susan and the monsters were released from prison.  While satan tries to steal, kill and destroy the powerful force inside us, he cannot. 

With Christ inside us, we should be like Susan, becoming the Arm of the Lord to the "monsters' around us, showing them love and acceptance.  Like Susan, we will prevail against the dark forces of this world and be victorious overcomers.
