Some Fun Learning Experiences From The Past

Posted in Homeschooling

We have been blessed to take the kids on two different beach vacations. The last vacation we were able to take we had some really neat coastal learning experiences.

This is the marsh at Calabash. Calabash NC is one of our favorite spots. We went down to the docks to see the big fishing boats . We meet one of the local fishermen who gave us some local history.

This was such an awesome learning experience . We went to the  Ingram Planetarium in Sunset Beach NC  . We got to view the stars , planets and learn how ships used the stars to navigate. Then one of the volunteer's from the Sunset Beach Turtle Rescue came to give a lecture on their efforts to save the sea turtles.  After the lecture the kids got to hold and inspect a real LoggerHead turtle shell. The girls said the shell really stunk...Pewwwww.

We took a trip over to the Ocean Isle Museum . The kids especially loved the touch tank. They were so amazed at all the shark's teeth in this exhibit.

All the kids took turns behind the turtle prop.

We all were amazed at the size of the loggerhead turtles and the difficulties in their offsprings survival.

I think a lesson on the coastal lighthouses would be awesome. Hopefully that can be a future adventure.

Chore Chart

Posted in Homeschooling

I had been searching for a way to get the kids motivated to do chores.  While searching for homeschool resources I came across the handipoints site. This will be our second week of using their chore chart. I love it !!! Not only is it a great motivater for the kids it also has educational value. There are many ways you can use the chart and it can  be used with different age children.

About that time

Posted in Homeschooling

I have been working hard on my eclectic curriculum. I did finish up my NOI, letter of curriculum, and end of year test scores and mailed to the superintendent today. Glad all of that is out of the way. Now I need to get to work on a daily/weekly planner.  I found some awesome free printables online yesterday so that will make it easier. I also need to set up a cumulative folder for each child.

I suppose that is a good start. Still lots more to do.

Going Eclectic

Posted in Homeschooling

Wow ! Things have been so busy around here. I had planned to move from eclectic to an Alpha Omega LIFEPAC curriculum. The ol' budget will not allow it right now. Sooooooooooo ... with a big sigh...we will be doing eclectic again. Most of my resources are coming from the internet right now. I have found tons of really cool printables and some interactive websites.  My big project now is to sit and do the daily lesson plan ( or at least weekly). At first I was bummed . I had really looked forward to doing the AO curriculum. Now that I have started finding some resources I have become excited again.

2008-2009 School Year

Posted in Homeschooling

Summer has really passed quickly for us. I think the kids have enjoyed this summer better than any . I certainly have. I have begun preparing for our new upcoming school year. I had planned on doing the Alpha Omega LIFEPAC curriculum. With fianances being so rough right now It looks like we will continue our eclectic curriculum. Caroline commented the other day she really liked doing the eclectic.

I have to get my NOI filed along with my end of year test scores. I don't plan on filing early it only gives them time to find something to complain about. I can do without the hassles of that.

There are so many wonderful online resourses out there. I really need to start printing off some sheets.
