Jul. 18, 2007 - Pet Overpopulation and Rescue Plea |
Animal Overpopulation Crisis in Lafayette
The animal overpopulation crisis is exploding in Lafayette.
It may seem hard to believe, but last month, more than 1000 animals were processed into the Roicy Duhon Animal Control Center in Lafayette.
Of those, over 750 were euthanized, simply because so many hundreds of pet owners refuse to spay or neuter their animals, and there just aren't enough homes to go around.
Lafayette Animal Control kennels are overflowing with dogs and cats, kittens and puppies, desperately in need of a loving home.
That's why we're urging you to look closely at the little faces we're about to show you, in the hope there's room in your home, and your heart, for one of them.
If you're a cat person, you're in luck. There are also some beautiful cats and kittens at the shelter in need of a home.
Please adopt an animal, and save a life.
Go to www.acadiana.petfinder.com to learn more about bringing home one of these loving animals.

If it wasn't for the fact that so many people do not spay and neuter their pets, the local pounds would not be so full, and we would not be making videos like this:
These animals were all forsaken by their owners and are now begging for someone to save them. These animals are located in Roicy Duhon Animal Control in Lafayette, Louisiana. http://acadiana.petfinder.com Please do what you can to save a life. If not here, then at your local pound.
Song: Forsaken By: Skillet
I recall going madly in love with you. and I remember this, how could I forget? Regret is a needle in my neck. It's slowly filling me with poison. Spreading to my chest. Take my pain and numb me from this. Why do I have to beg when all that's left is memory Forsaken. I recall pledging my sole devotion to you . It reminds me how now I'm on my knees. My guilt consumes, lost the will in me. Wasting way before you. Hold me closer please Forsaken. You break me. You're breaking me.
=^..^=
Can't you see the loss, pain, fear, sadness, and loneliness in their soulfull, begging eyes? |

Jan. 12, 2007 - My Cat Ranch Update |
We've been very busy over the past couple of months. I never seem to have time to update my Blog anymore. In case you are wondering, here is the Reader's Digest version of what's been going on.
On November 24th, our three daughter's each entered cats, kittens, and rabbits in the 4-H Fall Fest Cat Shows and Rabbit Show. Every animal they entered came home with a ribbon. To see pictures and find out more, check out my Cat Ranch moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=4h&tag=Y
In November and December, we borrowed several safe traps, and made a concentrated effort to TNR (Trap Neuter Release) as many of our feral and free roaming cats as possible. During this TNR blitz we spayed/neutered 17 cats and kittens! We also relocated 8 oppossums to their new country home. To see our TNR photos, check out my Cat Ranch moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=tnr&tag=Y
In November, thanks to April's help, we placed two dogs in new homes up North through Labs4Rescue. A Siberan Husky named Diamond and a Golden Retriever named Ace. We had two cat adoptions in November: Jessie a Blue Tabby, and Angelina a Torbie kitten. In December we found adoptive homes for Chewie a Lilac Point Ragdoll kitten, David a Blue DLH kitten, and George an Orange Tabby kitten.
My Cat Ranch has been working together with Acadiana Humane Society. Almost every Saturday, between 11AM and 3PM you can find us and some of our adoptable animals at the Petsmart in Lafayette, LA for Adoption Days. To see some of our Petsmart photos, please check out our moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=petsmart&tag=Y
In December, My Cat Ranch, working together with Acadiana Humane Society and ARNO (Animal Rescue New Orleans) we saved three cats from death row at the local Animal Control facilty. First was Jenny, a beautiful long haired Tortoiseshell. We had her spayed and fully vetted. Second was Binx, an owner surrendered neutered and declawed Buff Tabby. We took Binx to the vet and got him up to date on his shots and tested. The most recent cat saved from Roicy was a beautiful Tabby they called Soft Meow. We named her Brianna. Brianna was a temporary Cat Ranch resident. We took care of her while she was sick, and got her vetted and almost ready for adoption. She left today to go to the ARNO shelter in New Orleans, where they will get her spayed and find her a furr-ever home. Jenny and Binx are still at My Cat Ranch and are currently available for adoption.
On December 16th, we took in an owner surrendered Lilac Point Siamese kitten named Lilybell. You can see her picture here: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?r=5663759
Christmas was quiet on My Cat Ranch. The kittens had as much fun as the girls did. The kittens opened the first present of kitty toys. But, they had more fun with the wrapping paper all over the floor. To see our Christmas photos, check out my moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=christmas&tag=Y
The weekend of December 30th, Louisiana experienced a lot of rain. We weren't able to attend Adoption Day at Petsmart because we were flooded in. Click here to see the flooded road near our Cat Ranch.
On Monday, we pulled a 3 year old owner surrendered neutered Siberan Husky named Zeus from death row at the pound for Alaskan Malamute Rescue in Louisiana. Zeus is staying on at My Cat Ranch through his quarantine time of ten to fourteen days. We took him to the vet and had him heartworm tested and got his rabies vacination. Zeus is HW-! Yeah! Zeus is a real sweetheart and a wonderful house dog. He is a real people dog and cries when he can hear us but not see us.
Thanks to April of Labs4Rescue, our beloved Beethoven was adopted this week up North. Beethoven celebrated his adoption at the doggie park with a doggie cake from the doggie bakery, and his new doggie friends. To see pictures of Beethoven, check out my Cat Ranch moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=beethoven&tag=Y
The biggest announcement of all, is the merger of My Cat Ranch and Acadiana Humane Society on January 1, 2007. On the first of the month, I became the new President of Acadiana Humane Society. I am now operating both animal rescues as one under AHS. This means we are now non-profit. We can be a part of saving more lives, and helping to place more animals in loving furr-ever homes. One of our first goals is to obtain a physical shelter to house some of our rescued cats.
We are also very active in helping to plan the arrival of the Big Fix Rig in Lafayette, Louisiana. We are currently making plans, and trying to raise the $300.00 a day funding to keep the spay/neuter clinic open for four weeks in March. This will provide low cost spaying and neutering of cats for low income families and rescues. There will also be dog spay/neuter vouchers made available during this time for qualifying persons/families. Two of my friends from AHS and I already volunteered once when the Big Fix Rig was in St. Bernard Parish back in July. You can see photos from that day on the Rig on my moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=bigfixrig&tag=Y You can also read more about the Big Fix Rig in St. Bernard Parish on the AHS website: http://www.acadianahumane.org/scrapbook/fall2006_1.html

Nov. 29, 2006 - Urgent Prayer Requests! |
I would ask that those of you who read this, please add my husband's sister, Evelyn to your prayer list. Evelyn has cancer and is going downhill fast. The Hospice nurse has said she has 3 days tops, as all her organs are starting to shut down. The family is coming in from all over to see her once more. This is a difficult time for everyone. We would appreciate your prayers and thoughts.
Also, I had a phone call yesterday afternoon from my friend and My Cat Ranch volunteer, Allyson. She was admited into the hospital straight from seeing her doctor. Her MRI showed 50% bone compression in the spine of her neck. It looks like she will be undergoing surgery today. Please pray for the doctors hands for steadiness and skill. Please pray for Allyson and her husband for peace, comfort, and no fear. Also, please pray for no complications and a quick recovery.
Thank you! |

Nov. 29, 2006 - Quick Cat Ranch Update |
We've had a couple of cat adoptions recently. Jessie, a Blue & White Tabby adult, and Angelina, a six month old Torbie kitten were both placed into wonderful new furr-ever homes.

We have also been involved in a TNR program for the past couple of weeks. As of today, we have spayed/neutered six cats and six kittens. This morning the last of the female ferals that we feeding are now spayed. We just have five more feral males, that we know of, that still need to be neutered. Many thanks to Kristy, Paula, and Wendy who have loaned us TNR traps!

Sep. 8, 2006 - Two Successful Adoptions! |
Two of our adoptable cats were adopted this week! First, King Richard the Lionhearted, an adult Persian, was adopted this past Saturday. He is happy to be a spoiled only child.

Then, this past Monday, Tigger, a five month old kitten, was adopted. Tigger is happy to live in a home with two kids to play with!

We always fall in love with each rescue animal that comes into My Cat Ranch. So, it is always hard to say goodbye and we miss them very much. But, we are very happy to know that they are now in their purr-fect furr-ever homes! PTL! =^..^= |

Sep. 1, 2006 - 5 New Labraheeler Puppies at Cat Ranch |

My Cat Ranch is fostering these five adorable puppies as of yesterday, August 31, 2006. Their mother is a purebred Black Lab. Their father is a purebred Blue Heeler. So these designer dogs would be Labraheelers? These puppies were taken in after getting the owner to agree to allow us to bring her dogs in to be fixed. The puppies will be placed through Labs4Rescue once they are vetted. This brings the current dog count at My Cat Ranch up to ten! Kitty count is currently at 79. We are still in need of finances to get all of our cats and dogs up to date on vaccinations and vet care so we can get them adopted. Please pray for the Lord to provide the necessary funding to get all of our animals fully vetted. Please also pray for the purr-fect furr-ever homes for all of our adoptable cats and dogs. Thank you! |

Apr. 29, 2006 - Bad Weather Upsets My Cat Ranch, But God Protects Us All! |
Today has been a busy and rough day. We were under tornado watch and strong winds. My 12 year old watched out the door when we first realized the weather was getting bad, and she saw the long row of rabbit hutch style cat cages flip over with some of the Roicy cats flying through the air. The cats are all fine. We brought them all inside and put them in pet crates until I could borrow some cages. Thanks to Barbara with AHS, I was able to borrow some cages until Friday. I really NEED to get my own better cages, and a building to put them in as soon as possible.
When I left to go borrow the cages, the rain started coming down in sheets. When I got to Ambassador Caffery, the rain was so bad, and the water so deep already from flash flooding, that I could not see at all. We prayed our way through. Thankfully we made is safely to Petsmart where the cages were that we were borrowing. By the time I loaded the cages in the car, I was soaking, ringing wet all the way through. After I had everything loaded up, the rain stopped and the sun came out. I proceeded to the gas station, going up Amb Caff. towards Kaliste Saloom. The road in front of the Mall, and also the Mall parking lot was like a lake. I had to drive through at the right speed not to stall out, and not to slide all over. We made it through and got gas. I headed up to Kaliste Saloom so I could take the interstate home since Amb Caff and Pinhook both are prone to bad flooding and we were under flash flood warning at this point. It wasn't so bad on the interstate. But, when I was only a block from the house, I made the mistake of underestimating how deep the water on the road was. Once I started going, there was no turning back and no stopping. The further down the road I drove, the deeper the water got. At one point, the water was up and OVER the headlights on my Explorer and I could not see as it was pitch black outside. I had to pray my way home. When I got in the driveway the engine was smoking, water was pouring out of the frame of the Explorer, and there was a stick stuck in the top of my grill that had floated into it. When I got home I could see by the marks on the Explorer, that the water had been halfway up the sides of the door.
The cats are all settled in now in the cages that I borrowed, thanks to Acadiana Humane Society. I only have them until Friday though, so I could really use some better cages if I can raise the money, or if anyone has extra ones they don't need. I currently have 12 Roicy rescue cats in my care, some are fosters (for APAWS, AHS, ARNO, etc.), some are mine (not counting the other 50+ cats that do not need to be caged and quarantined). Not to mention the 3 dogs, 3 puppies, 2 gerbils, 1 goat, and 2 pet rats. My hope is to someday have a separate building for the rescue cats that we take in. It gets really hard when bad weather hits, and especially during hurricane season, to keep bringing the cats inside in pet crates. We would appreciate your prayers for the provision of a separate building and better cages for the rescue cats that need to be quarantined. Thank you! |

Mar. 26, 2006 - Dogs Deserve Better Then This |
On the morning of March 22nd, we saw a stray dog with a collar a couple of blocks from our house. When we returned home, we saw her wandering in the street. As I rounded the corner, I slowed to look at her. Our eyes met. For a moment, I saw what appeared to be a glimmer of hope in her eyes. She started to follow us. As I slowed down, she sped up. She followed us all the way down the street. At the stop sign, I told my daughter to open the door and see if she wanted to get in. She was too afraid to get in. My kids got out to go see her.

She was very happy for human attention and nuzzled my daughter's hand. She refused to get in the car, so the kids walked her home, with me following very slowly behind.
When we got home, I made some phone calls to neighbors, to see who she might belong to. Everyone said she did not belong around here. Some said they had seen her wandering the neighborhood for a few days, and were glad that she ended up at our place.
On Thursday, I took her to see a friend in another rescue group. She scanned her for a microchip, to see if we could locate her owners. She then gave the white Lab a once over, and discovered a few things about her. Her front teeth, both top and bottom, were worn down almost all the way to the gumline, and coated with silver metal. This is a sign that she was chained, and she had chewed her chain either in hunger, or to try and get away. Her teats were swollen and although she had no milk, it was obvious she had been used as a breeding machine. My friend dewormed her, and we chose the name Marsha for her. Marsha seemed in good health, other then her teeth and teats, and her being underweight from not eating properly. She was scheduled to go to the vet on this Friday to be heartworm tested and get her rabies. If her test was negative, she was going to be spayed as well.
Marsha did not know what dog food was. But, once she figured it out, she happily ate her fill. We fed her small meals, three times a day, since she was so underweight. Marsha did not know what a dog house was. I had to show her it was okay to go into the dog house and lay on her blanket. Once she figured it out, she loved it. Marsha did not know what a pig ear was. She also did not know what a milkbone was. Once she figured out they were for her, she really enjoyed them. Marsha was very happy with us. She was so grateful for the things we provided for her. Things that all dogs should be allowed to enjoy. Things that some dogs may take for granted. Marsha was very smart too. She sat on command, she walked politly beside us when on the leash. She never jumped on us. She always greeted us with a smile and a big tail wag. We loved Marsha, and in return, she loved us too.
Today was a very sad day for us. Marsha did not eat her breakfast. She slept a little more then usual. Then, this afternoon, she went downhill fast. She was laying in the shade, breathing very heavy, eyes glazed over, shaking, and unable to get up or respond to us. My husband and teenager placed her on a pet throw, and lifted her up and put her in the back of my SUV. I took her to my rescue friend who was on the way to Lafayette, and she agreed, she needed to go to the Animal Emergency Vet in Lafayette.
It seems that Marsha had been denied one more thing that every dog should be given by their owners. She was denied heartworm preventative. A simple chewable pill, once a month, and Marsha would still be healthy. Instead, Marsha was diagnoised today with advanced stages of heartworms. As well as heart damage, including arithmia (irregular heartbeat), and also anemia. Due to her advanced age, and the advanced stage of the heartworms, Marsha was not a good canidate for heartworm treatment. She would not have survived the treatments. The best we could do was keep her alive on prednisone for maybe two months, in which time any of her organs could shut down. Our only choice was to allow the vet to end her misery, and keep her from having to die a very painful death later on. My teenager and I held her as the vet ended her suffering. Marsha may not have known true love most of her life. But, I hope, she died knowing how much we love her. *sobs* |

Feb. 21, 2006 - Pound Rescue Needs Help & Prayer! |
Yesterday, I went to the local kill shelter to pull a Tortie cat and a Doxie mix for APAWS in Baton Rouge. We kept them over night at our house. I am meeting with another rescue volunteer this morning so she can bring them to the vet in Baton Rouge, where the volunteer from APAWS will meet her and pick them up. The Doxie mix seems to be in excellent health. However, the Tortie was sneezing when I picked her up. Last night she was also hacking. This morning she looks horrible. I had to clean her face as it was wet with mucos and saliva. She is not eating now. Her nose is congested. She cries and meows asking for help.
She is very affectionate and eats up my attentions, as you can see in this picture that was taken yesterday before she got worse.

APAWS is a non-profit animal rescue. They take in animals off of death row at the pound. They vet them, spay/neuter them, vaccinate them, and then find them wonderful furr-ever homes. I am afraid this Tortie will run up some expensive vet bills. Please, if you can spare even a few dollars, make a donation through PayPal and put a note that it is for the Roicy Tortie Rescue who is sick.
This is the Doxie mix that they rescued.

You can see the pictures that I posted of the dog and cat by clicking here. |

Feb. 19, 2006 - Katrina Puppy Placed |
As some of you may already know, a car that we had never seen before backed into our driveway the Friday night after Katrina, around 10:30PM. They turned off their lights, and got out of their car. They got back in their car, then turned on their car lights and left quickly. They had dumped a 3 month old black lab mix puppy on a white towel in our driveway. We assumed they may have been evacuees from New Orleans, and could not keep their puppy with them where ever they were staying. The picture below was taken the day after she was dumped in our driveway.

After awhile, the puppy developed these strange sores all over her legs, hindquarters, and ears. It turned out to be a bacterial/fungal infection which occured on some of the Katrina dogs after swimming in the New Orleans water. Thanks to a donor in California who paid all of her vet bills, we had her treated and she recovered just fine. We also had her vaccinated, spayed, and fully vetted.
Sakura is now 8 months old. No one ever came back to claim her, so we put her up for adoption through Labs4Rescue recently. She was adopted by a wonderful family in MA. She left last Thursday on a truck transport. I got an email from the new family. Sakura arrived safely in MA on Saturday. She is in quarantine at the vet foster for 2 days. The vet was very impressed with her health, and also with her mellow, sweet personality. I am so happy that the long drive did not seem to affect her attitude. She gets to be with her new family on either Monday or Tuesday. I'm looking forward to hearing how she adjusts to her new home.
If you would like to see pictures of Sakura that we took on the day she left for her new home, I posted them on My Cat Ranch Moblog. You can see them by clicking here.

Nov. 22, 2005 - Animals, Like People, Know What They Like |

This is one of our fosters for APAWS. She is a Maine Coon. She loves to talk and carry on conversations with us. She also craves attention and wants to be held and petted all the time. The kids call her Isabel. If you want, you can see a video clip Conversing With a Cat on my moblog.
Isabel came with two male Maine Coons. We named the males, Mario and Luigi. Naturally, the bigger cat was named Luigi. Mario is the smaller, and shyer of the two. Luigi is very friendly and affectionate. He loves to talk and carry on a conversation with us. He also begs us to hold and love on him. He loves to snuggle with people! The brothers are also fosters for APAWS.

This is another one of our fosters for APAWS. For the longest time, we did not know whether to call this big orange cat Garfield or Thomasina. The cat would fuss at us when the kids or I would call him by either name. We were finally able to get a good look today, and determined that this rescue kitty is probably a nuetered male. When we determined that, I said to the cat, "Well, it looks like we get to call you Garfield." He looked me in the eye and fussed about his dislike of that name. So I asked if he prefered we call him Thomasina. To which he quickly complained. I looked at him and said, "So big boy, what do YOU want us to call you!?" He looked right at me and I swear he said "Raalph!" I asked him, "Ralph? Your name is Ralph?" He just looked at me in silence. My daughter assumed his lack of fussing meant we finally got his name right. When I told our youngest daughter what happened, she had to go and see for herself. She went outside and asked him the same question. She said his answer was the same. Clear as day, she heard him say, "Raalph!" Looks like we are calling him Ralph. LOL

This talkative sweetie pie loves to be held. She is one of the new rescues from last night's Roicy Run. The kids named her Ashley.
This is the other rescue kitty that we brough home from last night's Roicy Run. She is very affectionate and loves to be rubbed and petted. If we don't pet her, she will roll all over and rub herself on the wall of her cage. She is also talkative.
Since Belle is a rescue cat, we are unsure of her breed. She looks like she could be a Siamese mix, or even a Burmilla. She has beautiful lynx points, snow paws, and fluffy soft long fur. She also has beautiful baby blue eyes.
Wasabi is one of our Lynx Point Siamese cats. He seems to think that Belle is a beautiful cat! He hung around under her cage most of the day today. Belle could have cared less. She likes people better then other cats. |

Nov. 21, 2005 - An Animal Rescue Day |
My husband and I made our first transport to Baton Rouge today. Tweety, our foster for Small Animal Rescue, had an appointment for a check-up today. She had no visible parasites, and no obvious health problems. Tweety got her vaccinations. She was a good girl too. She sat pretty every time the vet had a treat in her hand. The vet gave her too many treats though. I know, because I wore them on the way home. I let Tweety ride home on my lap, as she doesn't care for the pet taxi. She did real good, until we almost got to our exit.

While at the vet's we were blessed to meet Sharon from Small Animal Rescue. She was there to take care of Tweety's vet bill. She also had several boxes of items which they were donating to us! Lots of much needed cat food, cat treats, cat toys, and flea spray. She also brought us some dog food, some rawhide, a couple dog toys, and metal dog bowls for Tweety. Thank you Sharon and Small Animal Rescue!
We were also taking Joey, the FIV cat, to Karen with Muttshack. She was coming from New Orleans to meet us. We met at the vet's office in Baton Rouge. She will take care of her until she can place her in a rescue with an FIV room, or in a furever home. We miss Joey. But, at least now she can have more room to run and play. Joey won't have to remain caged all the time. Thank you Karen and Muttshack! PTL for answer to our prayers! Now we just need to pray that Karen can find the best place for Joey to stay for the remainder of her life.

When we got back home from Baton Rouge, it was almost time to leave again. I had promised Karen with Muttshack, that I would make a Roicy Run for her. She had made arrangements for me to pull some cats for her. I pulled one Maine Coon, two black cats, one Tabby, and one Siamese mix. I met another woman from Muttshack who was there to pull dogs for them. When my husband and I left the pound, we headed back home. We put the Siamese mix in one cage, and the Tabby in another. We reheated some leftover Gumbo for dinner. Just as we finished dinner, the phone rang. It was the rescuer from New Orleans that was picking up three of the Roicy rescues. We left to head back to Lafayette with the three cats, who are now on their way to their rescue in New Orleans.
All in all, it was a very busy, but productive day. Nov. 17, 2005 - Here We Grow Again! |
Time for new foster rescues!

We made a run to the pound in Lafayette today so we can overnight/foster some rescues. We brought home 4 cats for APAWS, one cat for Basset Rescue, and a dog for Small Animal Rescue. Good thing we have a big vehicle!

This is Tweety, our new foster dog. She was saved by Small Animal Rescue today, and we are fostering her for a week or two, depending on how long they need us to keep her. She is a very good girl, and stood or sat still on my 9 year old daughter's lap the whole way home from the pound today!
Our 9 year old was very happy with the new foster. She got real attached to Charlie, our last foster, while training and working with him. She needed another project to keep her busy. She spent the evening letting Tweety get used to her. So far they are very happy together!
We are also overnighting/fostering five cats. Three Maine Coons and a big orange Tabby for APAWS of Baton Rouge. As well as a Russian Blue for Bassett Rescue of Harvey, LA.
If we can work out the transportation, Joey the Tabby will be going to Muttshack in New Orleans tomorrow.

Nov. 15, 2005 - The Hard Part of Fostering |
One of the hardest parts of fostering, is saying goodbye. It doesn't matter where they are going. Whether it is to another rescue, or to a loving forever home, or to their eternal resting place. It is never easy saying goodbye.
Today we had to say goodbye to Charlie, the sweet Spaniel that we were fostering for APAWS. On November 3rd, I was at the Roicy Rabies Control Facility in Lafayette to pick up a cat and a couple of kittens we were overnighting for other rescue groups. We had just that week been blessed with the donation of an outdoor dog kennel. There was one lonely dog left on death row. When I told Debbie that I could overnight him, even for a couple of weeks, she called APAWS to see if they would want him. They agreed, and Debbie pulled him ten minutes before they closed. Charlie was literally saved at the last moment. When we got home, needless to say, my youngest daughter was shocked but delighted to see him. At the time, he had no name. She named him Charlie. Since then, our 9 year old and Charlie have spent much time together. She walked him several times a day. She trained him to sit, lie down, and roll over (half way). She even set up an obstacle course and was doing some agility training with him. He quickly learned to run along side her, and jump when she said jump. He adored her, and she was crazy about him. She knew this was a temporary foster situation. But, she gave him her heart anyway. She takes after her Mom I guess.
This morning Charlie went to Baton Rouge to the APAWS Rescue. There he is being vetted and prepared for his new forever home. My daughter misses him a lot. But, she knows and understands it is best for him to be adopted into a home where he can get even more love and attention. She is very much looking forward to our next foster dog!

After we met with Debbie, who was transporting Charlie to Baton Rouge, we had some errands to run. While out, we had a phone call from Sandy at 1atatime Rescue in Canada. Linda had sent her a copy of the email that she had sent to me, which I had not checked yet since I wasn't home. Linda had emailed us to let us know that Banfield had called saying that the FIV test changed after I left their office yesterday. The change meant that the test results were inconclusive and needed to be done again. I let myself get my hopes up that perhaps by some miracle, that Joey was not positive for FIV after all. After I got back home, I called Banfield to see if then was a good time to bring Joey in for a retest. It was, so we headed back into Lafayette with Joey. She was very talkative on the way to the vet. My daughter tried to video tape Joey carrying on a conversation with me. Joey always meowed the most when the camera was off. This short video has Joey meowing. We had to sit in the waiting room for awhile, as they ran the test and waited for the results. Joey sat beside us while waiting for the results. I spent the time talking with the meowing Joey, and hoping and praying for a negative test result. Unfortunatly, the test results were light positive for FIV. My heart sank when I heard the news. When I left, it was all I could do to keep the tears from pouring.
We do have one bit of good news though! It looks like we have a place for Joey at Muttshack! We just need to work out the details. Thank you, Karen and Muttshack! |

About Me
Homeschooling our three daughters and living in a rural area, has opened up the doors for teaching our kids about animal rescue and responsible pet care. All of our children have daily hands on experience in caring for the over 80 cats, 6 dogs, 2 gerbils, 2 rabbits, 1 guinea pig, and 1 goat who reside with us. Some are permanent residents, others are foster pets. All are loved very much. It has opened their eyes and hearts to the plight of unwanted pets, and the importance of spaying and neutering.
