• Feb. 12, 2008 - Wordless Wednesday - What's a mama to do?

Ok, so here's the news...I have moved my blog.  After several years at Homeschoolblogger it was time to go.  I needed a change and more versatility with my pages and so on.

Honestly, I have wondered what's the point.  I have been so busy lately between sickness and business, that I haven't had enough time to breathe, never mind post, but I knew that would change eventually.

So I will post here one, or two more times and then I will permanently move to my new home at.....

http://www.fromtherubberroom.com

I hope you will all remember to update your Bloglines with my new address because I will miss you terribly if you don't!

Ok, now on to W.W.

Being two and wearing this is not fun, well...not after day one.

She spent some time trying to convince me that she needed her sucker and all would be well.  I laughed hysterically as she bumped into the mask trying to put her comfort into her mouth.

However, the joke was on me once I turned my head.  See where the sucker is now!

• Feb. 3, 2008 - Kissing the Messenger

I wish I had a picture that could sum up the last few weeks, but unfortunately I have not been present at any train wrecks, so this post will only show the rosey side of our lives.

I actually could show you a picture of my face, which in theory could sum it all up, yet I still hold onto a fraction of vanity, so you will have to use your imagination.

You see I had my tooth pulled two days ago, which was quite violent, yet painless and my face, atop the ten extra pounds I gained since November, and the water retention from PMS, looks like a very large basketball.  My dear mother looked at me as said, "Your face doesn't look swollen to me."  I replied, "Oh great, so your telling me my face looks this fat all the time?"  Thankfully my eldest showed up at the door yesterday and said, "Wow, your face is swollen."

I kissed her.

Aside from my own ailments, my Wee Bella is sick again for the third time this month, and the second case of the croup.  It is just an awful thing to watch your wee ones when they are sick.  I would gladly keep my basketball sized head longer just to have her well again.

It must sound as though I am complaining, but I am just reporting the facts.  I actually feel extrordinarily blessed amidst the sickness and chaos, but I am praying health for all.  We have had enough I tell you.

• Jan. 28, 2008 - Consistency is Key

Ok, I'm posting this only because I said I would and I need some consistency in my life.  Truth be told, I'd rather be cleaning my kitchen right now so I don't have to look at the mess, or washing one of seventeen piles of laundry, or well...just about anything that is productive.  And for heaven sakes, don't for one moment think I enjoy cleaning over blogging, but the mess has been sitting there way too long, which incites guilt and who needs that I ask?

So here it is.....

Today only you can purchase Around the World in 180 Days by Apologia Ministries for 30% Off!!! That is a huge savings, so don't miss it because it will turn back into a pumpkin at midnight.

Around the World in 180 Days teaches geography and history on a continent-by-continent basis. The student learns about the major countries on each continent, as well as the basics of the continent’s history, geography, and culture. This is not a textbook. It is a series of questions that the student must research in order to answer. Plenty of resources (available in most public libraries) are listed to help the student in his or her research, and the teacher’s edition has all of the answers. Thus, even if the student cannot find the answer, you will not be lost. The pages in the student book are all three-hole punched and perforated so that the student can fill out the worksheets and compile a notebook which will document his or her work.

The great thing about this curriculum is that it written with a multilevel approach. There are questions for students of all levels, and those levels are clearly marked in the curriculum. As a result, the youngsters can do some of the research, the older students can do different research, and the oldest students can answer the most challenging questions. This is truly a curriculum that your whole family can study at once! Today only $28.00! List price $40.00.

• Jan. 22, 2008 - Wordless Wednesday - Could I Finally Be a Tea Girl?

I don't know...I have always been a coffee girl, but this is really good tea!  No kidding...the best I have ever tasted and...it's supposed to help you sleep with some Valerian Root in it; although, I think you'd have to hit me in the head with a hammer to knock me out..

Is it better than coffee?  Bite your tongue!  I'd never leave my beans!

• Jan. 20, 2008 - Comfort Food at Its Finest

I'm sure everyone that is reading this has had one of those  years weeks that you just needed a little TLC.  Well, today was one of those days that comfort food was desperately needed.

Don't misunderstand, today wasn't any worse or better than any other day, but I have been feeling kinda yucky lately after a nasty  cold, a case of gastritis and a tooth that needed to be pulled... yesterday.

So I decided to make comfort food.  Now I'm not talking about your typical baked mac and cheese, french fry comfort food, I'm talking the heaven of all comfort foods...Coq Au Vin.

Yes, this is the dish that makes life worth living and angel sing, just in case you have any doubt before trying it.  I'm convinced it could stop a  suicidal man in mid jump; mend broken homes and is most certainly France's only contribution to world peace.  OK, never mind, I can't give France that much credit, but it is my favorite food.  Can you tell I love Coq Au Vin?

And do you know what makes me love it even more?  When I don't have to cook it myself.  Yep, I skipped right out of the house and went to the gym while my capable, talented, future chef daughter made this little bit o' heaven for us today.  Thank you Kylie!

So, if this post is making you salivate and you feel your internal Rachael Ray itching to get out, you can find the recipe here that I use, (which is actually by Emeril - but the thought of having an internal Emeril is a bit frightening.)  And don't forget a big slice of crusty bread & butter for dipping.   Bon appetite!

• Jan. 14, 2008 - Time Out with Jesus

I'm sure by the title you may think you know where I am going with this post, but you would probably be wrong.

My sister and brother in law recently moved into a relatives mansion due to some difficult circumstances.  My question to her was, "I know you always wanted to live in a nice house, but did you have to take this route to get here?"  Fortunately all of us have very poor taste in jokes and we're all good with my bad attempt at humor.

Her cousin who owns this 7000 sf. beauty and the 15000 sf. home right next door that he has been renovating for four years, collects sculpture, art and antiques from around the world to use in his home next door as soon as it is completed.  Meanwhile, my sister and brother-in-law live side by side with several 6ft. statues of Roman soldiers with weaponry, statues of angels, several pianos, and ornate furnishings that would take an army to lift.  But my personal favorite that adorns the foyer is this 8ft. statue of Jesus, also known as... the time out chair.

Yep, you heard it right....this is where naughty little boys go to think over their actions, which might sound something like this....

"You know what happened to God's only son, so you had better shape up quick!"

Of course the hilarity of this provoked me to ask where I could get my own 8ft. statue of Jesus because I can't think of a better place to spend time out.  Although, I think I would have to paper mache it because I probably couldn't afford a 2 ft. statue of Jesus and somehow I don't think the 2ft. version would have quite the same effect.

Anyway...

Now to Markdown Monday, which I already almost forgot to post.  UGH...grey matter overload.
