My Garden of Flowers

• Apr. 4, 2007 - Confidence to Witness

I had very nice retreat despite the fact that my cold just refuses to leave.  Our theme was...

We did a quick study through the book entitled,  "Journey to Confidence; Becoming women who witness."  Of course it's a six week course, so what we really got was an overview.  It has changed my whole view on how to witness about my Christian faith.  I did enjoy my time even though I went to bed pretty much after the last evening sessions.

I did get my cookies done and they turned out terrific!  Here is what they looked like when we served them to the ladies....

The chocolate squares are tiny cheesecakes, and the whipped cream is actually a chocolate tulip cup filled with bananas topped with fresh whipped cream.  I used the Pampered Chef Butter Spritz Recipe and colored the dough.   This time I baked them at lower temperature so they didn't brown and kept their bright colors.  They were perfect and matched the pink and yellow carnations that were also handed out.  That was not even planned!

I am hoping to that my cold will not get the better of me this week because I want to make more of the cookies to give out to our neighbors.  I am hoping to find a little tract to put with them, or make one up myself.  My daughter wants to dye eggs, so I picked up a few extra yesterday.  Fortunately our family are big egg eaters and we will use up the eggs that we dye.  I also committed to making two cross cakes for church for our Easter Morning brunch.  I did two last year and they turned out really nice, so hoping to have the same results this time.  (cake pics)

After last week's issue with my husband having to fly out at a moment's notice it has caused some fall out with his boss.  In the past we have usually been given a week or mores notice about business trips, but I don't recall this short of a notice.  He is trying to work out the details so that it works with his job and for his family.  It's been a trying time for all involved.  His boss isn't being very understanding, but the one over this boss is trying to help find a solution if this should happen again.

It's that time of year for Alpha Omega Publications to have their annual spring sale and we are considering using their Switched On Schoolhouse DVD's this next year for our son.  A friend of ours used the SOS curriculum last year and showed me her daughter's who is a year ahead.  So far it's more a matter of what to use that if we will use it.  Always nice to have some curriculum that I can get a discount on.

Time for another hot cup of tea and checking the children's lessons.

We used SOS for a year. Three of my kids hated it, because it required so many hours in front of the computer. But my 15 year old daughter liked it, and is still using it for language arts and science. With 4 kids, I like that I don't have to teach every single subject!

By the way - welcome to HSB! Come by my blog anytime you need a smile. :)

I was on vacation and am now catching up with other's blogs.

That study sounds interesting. I love your cookies (I'm a pampered chef consultant) and your cakes are beautiful. I am trying to learn how to decorate cakes. It's a lot of fun!!! I'm sure your cakes were very yummy to eat.
