My Garden of Flowers

• Apr. 5, 2007 - Oh My

Our son is going to be in the seventh grade next year and I am getting the same question over and over again.  "Will you continue to homeschool through high school."  Depending on the person I usually give a general answer.  Yes, there are plenty of opportunities, curriculum choices, help, etc.  There are always a few people who seem concerned about the opportunities for my kids, or that public school isn't so bad, they, themselves, turned out ok.  Of course I think of their children and some of the choices they or their children have made and wonder, did they really "turn out OK"??

Yesterday, however, I was again reminded why our family choses to homeschool...and all the way through high school.  My friend was telling me of a question her daughter asked of homosexuals, and as she explained it turned out the question arose from an event that was happening at the junior high where she attends.  The event was called "Gay Days" a silent protest in support of them.  She said her daughter wore a sign on her back that stated "I have friends who are gay."  The daughter didn't seem all that sure if she agreed with this lifestyle, but told her mom that if that is the choice they make we shouldn't judge them.  Well, there was a lot of discussion at the table about the whole matter, yes, it's wrong, you shouldn't support it, etc.  But what concerned me wasn't what the moms said.  What concerned me was what went unsaid.  One other mom said that her own daughter, a senior in high school, felt the same as this other young lady, she, the daughter, thought maybe being gay was wrong, but that we shouldn't judge other choices.

So here is what concerned me, first these girls are not even clear on what the Bible's stance is on the Homosexual lifestyle, and their parents aren't working towards educating them on that fact.  Also, these two girls are arguing with their parents over this matter, saying they won't talk with their moms on the matter because their moms get over emotional on it, and they judge the other person.  These young ladies have no respect for their parent's faith, parent's judgment or their parent's authority.  And both of these girls attend a public school, where there are "gay" and "Christian" clubs.  Both girls feel that they can do their thing and let others do their thing and if other want to be gay they can be.  And they wonder why I have issues with the public schools.

Hummm, it makes me wonder why I even have to consider putting my child in a situation like that!  Now my children aren't in anyway perfect!  However, I want them to be firm in their stance with their Christian faith and the word of God.  They need to know what sin is and flee from it, as well as stand up to it.  They can't do that unless we are parents train them, and we can't do that if they are away for 8 to 10 hours a day.  Their souls are precious and God's called us to train them up in His Ways.  My desire is that my children are the ones who call sin, sin, and be bold in their faith.  Not as these two young ladies who are being blinded by the political correctness of this world and just let sinners be sinners.

Now, am I am going to homeschool through High School??...by God's Grace....By God's Grace!

You're right about the kids. So few of them at that age are able to "go against the flow." That is something that comes with more experience and maturity. They just want so badly to fit in and not be made fun of.

Yikes! I wouldn't want my children in school and having to deal with that either! I certainly hope as you that we can homeschool all the way through high school. I'm sure it will be challenging , but as my hubby said while we were on vacation, the children aren't the only ones learning (so are we!)
