My Garden of Flowers

• Apr. 11, 2007 - A Delightful Easter Holiday

Our family enjoyed a nice holiday weekend together.  The weather was nice, no snow here in the bay area of California, just a breeze, a few clouds and lots of pollen.  John took Friday off and we enjoyed a nice breakfast together, then at noon went to our Good Friday service.  We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, and headed back home.  When we walked it the house I noticed it smelled awfully strange.  John discovered that one of the burners was one, but not lit...thank the Lord, because if it had been we probably would have had a house fire.  We aired out the house and decided to check the movie schedule.  Tyler remembered the movie we were interested in seeing was also being shown in 3 D.  We got back in the car and headed back to the same mall that we were just at for lunch.  Thankful though we had to come home, who knows what would have happened if we hadn't!

After the movie, we had a late dinner, and got ready for Saturday.  Cinnamon rolls were requested for Breakfast, so I got the bread machine set up so the dough would be ready.  Saturday, John headed up to our church for a quick clean up around the church grounds.  The kids got to enjoy a morning of cartoons, which is a big treat for them!  I made up the rolls, the cream cheese frosting, and started to work on my baking.  I had a plan to make two cross cakes, and a cake to take with us to our friend's for our Easter meal.  After breakfast, I ran my errands, while the kids and John worked in the yard.

I did get my baking done, but only made one cross cake and my basket cake.  (Cake Blog).  We also baked up several dozen butter cookies to hand out to our neighbors.  John however got totally wiped out by the pollen and was miserable most of the day after they finished some yard work.  We stopped long enough to run up to church for a quick Easter Choir Rehearsal.  And then enjoyed a nice dinner of BBQ'd burgers and homemade french fries!  I finished up the basket cake and the kids colored eggs...whew it was a very long day!

Sunday we got up early, dressed in our Easter outfits and made it to our morning worship service at 8 am!  After our first service we enjoyed a time of fellowship with an Easter Brunch, then a short Sunday School time.  John and I joined the choir and got ready for the morning Easter Service that was our Easter Musical.  After that finished up, more fellowship time and food!  Then we headed home and got ready to head over to our friends for a late lunch.  Before we headed over there we gave the kids their Easter baskets and took cookies to the neighbors (actually as I was writing this one of the neighbors brought us a thank you note for them!).  I opened up my gift from my secret sister from church and boy was I spoiled!  She gave me earrings, a cute little bear dressed as a bunny, a chocolate bunny, jelly bellies, a candy stick, a bunny picture frame, a cute coffee mug, a cute magnet,a key chain for a photo, a cute tulip basket and bunny bag!

I helped with lunch preparations, the kids played and John rested...he was still pretty wiped out!  After everyone arrived we had lunch, ham, turkey and all kinds of side dishes.  Needless to say after all that food it was hard to think of dessert, and there was a lot of that also!  We enjoyed our friend's daughter who is 14 months, she didn't quite understand the whole egg hunt thing.  It was nice to catch up and enjoy the fellowship with others.  After a lovely day we came home with lots of left overs and all headed to bed!

This week it's quiet in our neighborhood as the school near our house is out for the week.  Our normal weekly activities are back in full swing.  Dance classes resumed after a week off.  Awana resumes this Sunday after taking Easter Sunday off.  However our school schedule is still a bit off as we try to get the house back in order.  Today I let the kids just take the "day off" from everything.  Tomorrow and Friday, however, will be full, cleaning rooms, homework, laundry, working on Awana sections.

I am still trying to decide on the SOS materials, as well as, plan out the rest of school year.  Always good for me to sit down and refresh what we need to finish, what we can do during the summer and what can wait.
