Jun. 15, 2007 - Fathers Day
I've said it here before, many of you have wonderful husbands, but I have the best one. My kids can say the same thing about their daddy. Without all that he does, our days would be dark indeed. I don't know how some people can stand having a husband who isn't supportive, doesn't help out with the kids, etc.
Here's a short list of some of the wonderful things my husband does for us:
• Allows me to sleep in a bit longer on Sunday mornings while he gets the kids up, feeds them, dresses them, and herds them towards me for a decent hair combing.
• Takes the kids out on Friday evenings for "Daddy Fun Day". (This is what we call it in front of the kids. My husband and I call it "Keep Mommy Sane Day")
• Encourages me to go to the grocery store by myself one evening a week. I am always more thankful he urges this after I take them to the store with me a time or two.
• Consistently charges into the laundry room with determination to defeat the Great Laundry Monster.
• Cleans up the dishes after dinner.
• Provides for us with a job he'd drop in a heartbeat, allowing me to stay home with the kids, and allowing our kids to be homeschooled.
• And of course, supports our homeschooling with enthusiasm. He makes it a point each evening at dinner to find out what the kids did that day, what their favorite part was, etc. He leads the kids Bible devotions/Bible story, teaches them chatecisms, does math flash cards and reviews the map with Big Man a couple of times a week, and for the kids who are reading he has them read to him for a short time a couple of nights a week.
Most people will acknowledge what a hard job motherhood is, but few give the same respect to fathers. I know if I had a choice of being a mother or a father, I would pick motherhood in a heartbeat. Being a good father is more than showing up for dinner and a baseball game. Being a good father means showing your children the same love, sacrifice, patience, etc. as our Heavenly Father does with us. Being a good father means being a great husband, always training his children by his actions and words what kind of man God wants them to be to their future wife and children. Am I a part of that training as well? Of course, but it's a lesson that is most powerful when it comes from Daddy. That's a huge load that I'm very thankful I don't have.
Happy Fathers Day to the best Daddy in the world!

Hi Kathy,
While your Dh does sound pretty fabulous- helping out with laundry, "Daddy Fun Day" (I like what you two call it!), etc. I may just have to argue with you about who's the best. LOL! :) (what kind of wife would I be if I didn't?)
I don't know what I'd do without my DH either...
Love, Alyssa
