Please comment so I can see who visits.
Amy
I found this story in the drafts in my list of entries... What a weird place to keep it! LOL! First, I wrote an "about me" (me is the main character), and then I "started" the first chapter... Here is the about me:
My name is Erika Lou Maybury. I absolutely despise my name. Erika is okay, but Lou? Its awful!
I'm 11 years old. I have waist long brown hair that never behaves. Its always flying all over so I usually just give up and leave it down after trying to brush it. I don't wear glasses but I think they look neat. Most of the time I'm a pretty nice girl but when I mad, I'm MAD, and when I'm happy I'm Happy. So you don't want me to get mad. :-)
Ever since I can remember I've loved adventure. The only really exciting thing (it wasn't even that exciting) that happened to me was when I was rock climbing (with ropes and everything). I was going up a really steep rock and I had just ducked under a tree branch when my rope broke and I fell against the tree. I knew if I moved I'd fall so I stayed there until my brother Jeff came and helped me. He is 16. Jeff is very protective of me and we are very close.
Then there is my 15 year-old sister, Courtney, who is always carrying a mirror around to admire herself, and can't ever find the good side of things. She can only find the bad side. It gets annoying sometimes... I don't like her as much as I do Jeff, but sometimes she can be a lot of fun. That is, when she gets rid of her mirror and starts looking at the good side of things!
I usually don't mind being the youngest but sometimes when people say that I'm "too little" to do this or that, I get mad. I'm not little! I'm 5 feet and 8 inches tall--tall for my age.
I know I said the ONLY thing that was exciting that happened to me was when my rope broke but I guess I forgot about this:
(you can read about "this" when I post the first chapter )
And here is the "first chapter". If anyone would like to finish this for me, go ahead!
I awoke one morning and I felt like something unusual was going to happen. Then I noticed that something unusual was happening! I was shrinking!!! In a few minutes I was only about 5 inches tall instead of 5 feet tall! Now I'm the size of the Littles! (The Littles is a series written by John Lawrence Peterson) I always wondered what it was like to be this size and now I'll find out. Then I noticed that my surroundings where changing too! In a few seconds I was inside this room with little furniture and my family was there too but they were the same size as me.
"Wow! Its like we went and visited the Little's house! I always wanted to do this!" I exclaimed.
"It might be exciting to you Erika, but you are only 11 and I bet you haven't even though of any things that could be bad about this. For one, how are we going to get big again, and two, we don't know anything about our surroundings. We might be in grave danger!" retorted my sister Courtney.
This is a story that I started a loooooong time ago, and I'm never planning on finishing it, because I don't write mysteries very well... It probably has a lot of grammer mistakes, and spelling mistakes, but ignore those... :-) As you will see, it ends quite suddenly... If anyone wants to, they can write more to it and let me know!
Noodle Earth
Chapter 1
This is was not home! The grass (which looked like noodles) was orange and in the sky I saw two flying dogs (with arms that looked like noodles)! Where was I? I wondered.
“Hello,” I shouted, hoping someone that understood English would hear me. No one answered but a few minutes later, when I almost started panicking I heard a tractor coming my way. I jumped up and down in the grass waving my arms and yelling as loud as I could. Success! The man driving the tractor had seen me and had started to come my way! As the tractor neared me, I saw that the man looked strange! He had a square face and purple hair. Also his nose was above his eyes! I hoped that wherever I was, they did not care about manners. How was I supposed to keep from staring? When the tractor reached me, the man jumped down and said “Hi April.”
How did he know my name? I wondered. This place was really weird! “Hi,” I said. “Could you please tell me where I am?”
“Sure. You are on an unknown planet named Noodle World!”
Now that he mentioned the word “noodle”, I noticed that his arms and legs were noodles too!
“How did I get here and why is everything made of noodles and why do you look so strange and how did you know my name and who are you?”
“Slow down!” exclaimed the man in a voice that sounded like a laugh but his mouth was shaped like a frown so I did not know if he was mad or happy! “I can only answer your questions one at a time! I do not know how you got here. There have been other people that look like you, that have shown up in the very same strange manner. Since they did not know how to leave, they still live here. No one knows why everything is made of noodles, but we found a sign, by the lake that said when we unlock the mystery of how people show up here, we will all be able to leave and it will also lead us to another hidden sign that tells us why every thing is made of noodles.”
Before he could go on, I exclaimed, “I do not want to stay here for ever! You have to solve the mystery!”
“Oh, I am sure you will like it here. Every one else thought the same thing but now they like it! You will to. I knew your name only because I am a Noodlite. When we see a person, we automatically know their name. Once you have been here for a year, you will have the same ability as all of us. And last of all, my name is Mark.”
“Mark! That does not sound strange at all!” “I thought you would have strange name!”
“Every one that lives here has non-strange name. We all came here just like you and then after we had been here a while, we noticed that we were changing!” Mark explained. “We better get back into town. This is my field that you showed up in. I bet your hungry!”
“I sure am. I can’t wait to meet some more people and hear more about this place. I am especially interested in the mystery!” I said as he helped me up onto the tractor.
I decided that these people were friendly and that they would help me.
“Are there any children my age?” I asked. Before he answered I added, “ I’m 10.”
“Yes. There are quite a few. You see, they have lived here all their lives because they were born here. Right now our neighbor is pregnant!” Where am I going to stay? I wondered. Just then, as if Mark could read my mind he said, “You can stay at my house. I have an extra room and two girls that you can play with.”
“Thank you very much. You are very kind,” I said. Then I saw that we were nearing the town. When we were close enough, I saw that the fences were made of noodles. I could’ve guessed that! I thought. Pretty soon we were at Mark’s house. He helped me down off the tractor, and lead me to the door of the house. He opened the door and walked in motioning me to follow. As soon as the two girls heard their daddy open the door, they bounded down the stairs and ran to give him hug. His wife did so more slowly though. After all the greetings, he introduced me to the family.
“This my wife, Megan McCormick and my two girls Melissa who is 12 and May who is 10.” “Ladies, this is April. She just showed up in my field like all the other people did.
“Hi!” I said not knowing what else to say.
“Hello,” said May “Follow me and will show your room.”
Not knowing what else to do I said “Thank you” to Mark and followed May to the bedroom.
Chapter 2
“This is delicious!” I said. We were eating supper. “Tell me more about the signs.”
“Well I have told you all that I know, but after supper I can take you to the first man that ever landed here. He knows more than any of the people that live here, because he discovered the sign. He is three hundred and fifty years old!”
I thought it was about time for a new post... I wrote this carachter sketch for school last week. I might make another one sometime this week.
Madame Pompadour: If you walked up to Madame P., you would see a lady with curly gray hair, dangling earings, and a pearl necklace around her neck. She never wears any different jewelry.
She loves poodles so much that she treats them like humans! She will hold parties for her dogs and invite all their favorite poodle friends. She even had her servants dig 158 tunnels under her winter hideaway in Minneapolis so that she could walk her dogs without them having to endure the frigid weather. (I personally think that she had them dug so she wouldn’t have to endure the coldness)
Madame P. eats plenty of all the finest foods (maybe that is why she is so plump…) and she always shares generous portions with her poodles. She claims they have delicate stomachs so they can’t eat dog food. Her 50 poodles sit at the table with her in special chairs designed by her personal inventor, Freddie Fandango!
You can’t her call house a house, and be telling the truth. Her “house” is a mansion. A palace! It’s filled with moving walkways, elevators, escalator, servants here, and servants there, all of whom come running at the ring of a bell, and of course, poodles here and poodles there. In every room she has dog beds and toys, and each of her dogs get a personal servant (aren’t they spoiled???).
When most people hear of her they think she is a snob but she is one of the nicest people in her town! She loves children and will pass out treats of all kinds to them. The children love her, too, and her poodles of course, so everyday after school they all go flocking to her mansion, which they call Madame P.’s Poodle Palace.
"Jimmy? Can you please go out side and dig some holes for our new trees? Daddy has been too busy to do it and you've been wanting to use the new shovel, so here is your chance," Mrs. Fisher asked her nine year-old son.
"Sure Mom! I'll go do that right now!" exclaimed Jimmy. He quickly put on his shoes and ran out side. Soon he was happily digging away. Suddenly his shovel hit something hard! Jimmy had a big imagination so his first though was I bet it's treasure! Probably some pirates hid a treasure chest and meant to come find it but something happened, so it's still here! He didn't even stop to think about the fact that pirates weren't in Colorado. Jimmy started to dig extra fast and soon he had a great big hole. But to his disappointment, his "treasure" was only a big rock.
When Jimmy went in to eat lunch he told his mom all about it.
"Oh well, maybe you'll find treasure someday. Dad wanted me to go pick up one more tree for the back yard. Would you mind digging the hole later?"
"No, I don't mind. I had lots of fun. Maybe I'll find treasure this time! Real treasure and not a rock. Can I come with you?" asked Jimmy. He loved to go to Home Depot where they got the trees, but they didn't go very often.
"Actually, I think that you have some chores to do that should have been done earlier. Am I right?"
"Yes, Mommy, I still have chores to do. Thanks for reminding me. I'll do them while you are gone. That way I can dig right when you get back," replied Jimmy, slightly disappointed that he couldn't go, even though he knew that he should have gotten his chores done earlier.
"Okay, I'll see you later!" Mrs. Fisher called as she walked out the door.
Jimmy went and gathered all the trash cans to empty them, and when he was done with that he got out the vacuum so he could vacuum his room. After that he did a few other things around the house and sat down in a chair with his favorite book.
In about a half hour his mom pulled into the drive way. Jimmy ran out to meet her.
"Can I dig now?" asked Jimmy bouncing around his mother.
"No, I'm sorry but Dad wanted to take you out for ice cream," his mother said. "You can dig right when you get back."
"All right! I like ice cream better than digging anyway," he exclaimed.
Jimmy enjoyed his ice cream tremendously, and then as soon as he got home he grabbed the shovel and started to dig. He noticed that his mother had already started a little hole where he was supposed to put the big tree. This time when his shovel hit something hard he didn't get excited because he was afraid it would be a rock again. But this time he wasn't disappointed! It was a treasure chest! He saw a key tied to it and quickly opened it up. Inside it was a new game he had wanted for a while, and some chocolate bars.
"MOM! Come look at this!!!"Jimmy yelled and ran inside. "Some pirates left a treasure chest with just the things I wanted in it!"
"Wow! How exciting!" Jimmy's mom said. Then Jimmy noticed a little twinkle in his mom's eye, and he said, "Did you put that out there?" But his mom never did tell him.
I didn't participate in #2 and in #1 I pulled something old out so here is #3 of http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/YoungWriters4Jesus/. (there is a writing challenge every week.)
This week is to, well, go read it your self. There is the link right above.
How to make a quesadilla.
Ingredients:
2 tortillas
butter
re-fried beans
ham/turkey
cheese
any other toppings
Utensils:
Paper plate
knife
pan
spatula (the flipping kind :-)
Instructions:
Take two tortillas and butter them both, scraping the butter off so you only have a really thin layer. Then put the buttered sides together. Put them on the paper plate. Then take some re-fried beans and spread them on the top of the tortilla. Then take some ham and put it on top of the beans, and then do the same with the cheese. If you want to put anything else like green onions on, do it now. Then get out your frying pan and put it on the stove. Turn on the heat and let it warm up. Then take the top tortilla (the one with all the toppings) and put it on the stove. Then just put the other one on top butter faced up. Cook until brown on each side, flipping with your spatula. Then cut it and enjoy it!
If you look at a real cook book instead of my blog, it might turn out a little better :-)
In History/Geography I had to find out what continent 45° north laditude and 105°west longitude went through. That was so much fun. I had to do two of those and twp "what ocean does it go through.
I had soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun.
Its only 10:45 and I'm done with school!!!
Yesterday, I was still doing it after lunch! But last night I decided I would have a good day of school day today and I did.
History/Geography was definitely my favorite subject. I learned about the hemispheres. There are 4--southern, western, northern, and eastern. A hemisphere is half of the earth. Today was a good day. I didn't even mind typing or math!
In Math, I learned how we got our yard, inch, and foot. The foot of the great French King Charlemange's was how we got the foot. We got the yard from Henry I of England. The length from the tip of his nose to his finger tip was a yard. They had to adjust the length of the foot to fit it evenly into a yard. Interesting, huh?
Today was the first day of school. I think that my favorite subject was History/Geography. My least favorite subject was typing.
In History/Geography I learned about maridians. The are imaginary lines on the earth that run north and south.
I'm starting a new category here. Its called my School Journal. Everyday after I'm done I have to write at least one paragraph in my notebook. I've decided to post it here.
You might not be interested at all but it gives me something to post here.

I was looking at one of our old 3rd grade spelling books when I saw a challenge. It said to write a story called Summertime using as many words from list 34 (below). So I did that! Here is the list:
And here is the story. The spelling words are highlighted:
Summertime
It was summertime so Bettie’s family was on vacation. First they went to the library, and Bettie got to get her favorite book, Caddie Woodlawn, by Caroline Ryrie Brink. Then her grandparents met them at the pond with a picnic.
“We wanted to have a barbecue, but it didn’t’ turn out,” said Bettie’s grandpa wiping the perspiration from his forehead. “At least we have this watermelon and lemonade to cool off with. The sunshine is so hot!”
“How about we go swimming?” suggested Bettie’s brother Jack. “I’d also like to try sailing the boat that I finished building last week.”
“That’s a great idea!” exclaimed Bettie. She finished her food, and took off her shoes, and soon she was running barefoot towards the pond. She jumped in with a huge splash, which scared away a family of frogs and a cloud of mosquitoes.
“Oh no! I forgot to take off my sunglasses and when I dived in, I lost them!” cried Bettie. “I’ll dive in and find them for you,” said Jack whipping out a pair of goggles from his back pocket.
“Where did those come from?” asked Bettie in a tone of bewilderment. But Jack was already in the pond.
A few moments later, Jack came up gasping for breath with his arms full. He had Bettie’s sunglasses, a baseball, a gardening tool, and a hat that said “Camping at Camp Snookelwickles” on the front of it!
“It’s a regular field of treasures down there!” exclaimed Jack as he dumped his treasures at the edge of the pond and dived in again.
Bettie grabbed her sunglasses and put them on the table so she wouldn’t lose them again. When she got back to the pond, she saw a little girl her age swimming! They immediately became friends and Bettie told her all about the day --- losing her sunglasses and all! The other girl told Bettie all about her day --- they had gone sightseeing in Paris, caught a plane to Florida and there they were!
“It was barely even daylight when we got on the plane, but now the sun is going down!” said the other girl.
“You’re right! I hadn’t noticed. I’d better get going. I see my family packing up,” said Bettie, climbing out of the pond.
“Bye! Oh wait! I never found out your name! I’m Olivia Brown,” Olivia said.
“Olivia! What a pretty name! My name is Bettie. It was a pleasure meeting you!” called Bettie from over her shoulder. She turned around one last time and waved.
“Wow! There is so much humidity in the air and I can see a thunderstorm coming toward us! What a change from the nice weather we had earlier,” said Bettie’s dad. “Are we all ready to go? Wait, where is Jack?”
“Here I am Dad,” said Jack coming up from behind them with his arms full of things he found at the bottom of the pond.
“Well then, lets go!” said Bettie’s dad.
They all waved good bye to their grandparents and got into the van.
That night when Bettie went into Jack’s bedroom to say goodnight she said, “Thanks for getting my sunglasses Jack. Where did you get those sunglasses anyway?” wondered Bettie, but Jack was already asleep. She lay down on her bed and suddenly a thought popped into her mind: tomorrow was Independence Day! She fell asleep wondering what they would do then.
I copied it from a Microsoft Word document so it doesn't look the best but I'm to lazy to fix it.
I hope you enjoyed it!

“I’m going to get you!” yelled Tom as he chased his best friend Mark.
“Oh no you won’t!” Mark yelled back. He wasn’t looking where he was going because he was running to fast.
“Watch out for the mud!” exclaimed Tom’s sister Maryanne. But it was too late. Mark ran right into the slippery, slimy mud and fell flat on his back! Mark’s twin sister Annie came running out of the house right then and she started howling with laughter. Then Maryanne and Tom joined in. Mark didn’t think it was very funny and responded but throwing a mud-ball and yelling “Its not funny!
Mark ran down to the mud puddle to make a mud-ball to throw at Tom but in his hurry he fell down too! Pretty soon the girls ran down too and they started a mud fight. Pretty soon they got tired of throwing mud-balls and they decided that they wanted to go inside. All four of them walked toward the house trying to decide who looked worse. Maryanne opened the house door and started to walk in but her mom stopped her.
“Wait a minute! You aren’t going to come in my house looking like that! Go try the neighbor’s house. How did you get so muddy?”
“Mark was running away from…”
“Tom was chasing me and…” “Mark threw a mud-ball at us and I went to get some…”
“I came out of the house and Mark had just…” All the kids started talking at once.
“One at a time, one at a time!. All I can understand is Mark this, and Mark that and Tom was chasing someone and there were mud-balls involved with it,” laughed Tom’s mother. “You go wash off with the hose and come back when you look a little cleaner,” and she shooed them off the porch.
The kids raced each other to the hose and had lots of fun spraying each other. Then they went and sat in the sun to dry off a little before they went inside.
This time when they went to the door they were allowed to come inside and Tom’s mother had some cookies fresh out of the oven for them to eat.
This will be the last lesson!!! To see all the other ones, click on "Writing Lessons" on my left sidebar.
Doris the cat purred happily and curled up in the sunny window. She shivered a little when she thought about how long she'd lived in the streets as a skinny, stray cat. But that was then. Now she knew she would never again choose to wander about chasing mice like she used to. It would be fancy cat food for her from now on, served in a fancy glass dish. As old Mrs. Winn patted her soft coat, Doris stretched and hoped that life would always be this good!
--(From The Most Wonderful Writing Lessons Ever by Barbara Mariconda)
Before: And that is the story of how I saved my little sister from drowning.
A memory?: How cold the water was.
A feeling?: Love towards my sister.
A hope?: That I would never have to jump into icy at night ever again. Especially to save my sister from drowning.
A decision?: That I would try to set a good example to my sister, and watch out for her always.
Revised ending: As I lay in bed trying to get warm, I felt a surge of love towards my sister as I remembered how the night had played out. That afternoon, I had jumped into the river off of a tree branch with a few of my friends. Then after supper, my sister had climbed the tree and jumped in to except she couldn’t swim. I had climbed the tree and jumped in to save her. The thing I remembered the most was how cold the water was. I hoped that I would never have to jump into icy water at night ever again. Especially to save my sister from drowning! And I decided that I would try to set a good example to my sister, and watch out for her always

Nutshell Summary:
Josh and his friends ride the rapids in a leaky raft and survive.
Scene:
“They’re after us!” shouted Josh. “Can’t we row any faster?” The natives of Piura, a jungle on the coast of South America were chasing them down the Amazon river.
Josh and his friends had found a raft tangled in the bushes on the shore. The only problem was that it was leaky. The natives had a strong wooden canoe and were gaining on the children!
“Were paddling as fast as we can!” yelled Mathew. “Look up ahead. There are the rapids that dad warned us about. We can’t get through them!” Mary took a break from blowing up the raft and looked for the rapids. Her cheeks were as red as a ripe tomato. She had been given the job of trying to blow up the raft as they went along.
“Do you need help rowing?” she asked.
“No, we can do it. You need to get back to your blowing or we are going to sink!” answered Josh. “We might anyway with these rapids,” he added under his breath.
Just then the raft snagged on a rock, and lost all its air. The raft went under the foaming water never to be seen again. All the kids went under too!
Josh managed to fight his way back up to the surface and grab a rock for support. So did Mathew. They both looked franticly around for Mary. Suddenly Josh saw her dress swirl up to the surface. Josh dived under the water and grabbed Mary’s skirt.
Just then Mathew remembered why they had been in the raft in the first place: the natives were after him! He glanced back and to his horror, they were almost 5 yards away but they were having trouble getting the canoe through the rocks.
When Josh came up with Mary, they huddled together on the rock trying to catch their breath before moving on. Just then, Mary saw the natives canoe tip over and all of the men spill out! Now that the canoe had no one in it, it just went along with the water. When it reached the children, Josh jumped in pulling Mary along, and motioned to Mathew to do the same.
“We can’t just leave them there in the water!” exclaimed Mary starting to climb out of the boat. Mathew jerked her back in by her skirt.
“You can’t go back there and help them! We’ve got to get away. Plus they live here. They should be able to save themselves.” Mathew was right. From their spot in the canoe which was jammed in between two rocks, they could see very well. The natives were swimming towards shore! It didn’t take them long to reach it. Mary started to get out of the canoe again.
“What are you doing now?” asked Josh. “You aren’t going to swim to shore too are you?”
“No, I am going to get this canoe unstuck!” The boys quickly hopped out too, and helped her. Then they got back in and pushed off the rocks to steer themselves. Soon they reached calmer waters, and by paddling with their hands, they slowly made their way back to land.
Every day I lay in the stream waiting for the man to find me. He spent hours searching but only got gold dust. His wife had tried too, but the searches were all in vain.
One day, as I was rocked back and forth by the tiny waves, I saw the little boy coming towards my part of the stream. He sat down a few inches away from me and started to dig through the dirt, imitating his father and mother. Suddenly, his chubby hand reached down and grabbed me! It was the most frightening experience I had ever gone through! I could no longer see the glorious sunlight I had learned to love. I no longer felt free like I had in my cool bed of rocks. This chubby hand was hot, and dark! Then, the boy opened his hand and I could see the warm sun again. I wasn’t so scared then. I could hear the boy mumbling something about how beautiful I was and then we got up and jiggled and jolted and bumped and jumped along until he reached his parents.
“Mommy look at the pretty rock I found!” I heard the boy say. Then there was a lot of commotion and I couldn’t tell what anybody was saying. There were shouts of excitement, more jiggling and jostling, and then more shouts of excitement. Once they quieted down a little, I heard the dad say something about how he couldn’t believe that his four-year-old boy had found a huge chunk of gold, when he himself had been searching for days! The sun disappeared again for a long, long time.
I am taking Mrs. Marlow's writing lessons. I was posting them on my other blog but I decided to transfer them all over to here. So on the left sidebar along with the stories there is a thing called Writing Lessons. All her feedback is there too!
