Reading problems.

My 6 year old dd has been really struggling with remembering her letters and sounds and the whole phonics idea. However, I am seeing progress even though its coming slowly. She is finally remembering more and more of her letters and sounds. But it is a slow going. We are working more with a the teaching reading through writing concept that I read about. It was one of those concepts that just really clicked for me. We also go over the letters by sight and do the phonics excercises but she is definitly a hands on person. She learns best as she goes. It has been trying at times but I know from experience that it will click like it did for her older sister. Her older sister learned differently than she does and I expect the younger one will probably have her own learning personality but I'm hoping since her sisters are a bit older that they will be a big help for me when it comes time to "school" her even though we do it on a daily basis with her picking things up as I teach the older two. I am looking forward to starting her in school one day. Well that is what is going on in our homeschool.

Blessings,
Dianna

Finally ....

after getting halfway through the 3rd year of homeschooling I am starting to get myself organized. LOL Of course I still have a lot of planning and organizing to do. But it is coming along. You don't realize how hard it is to plan everything until you have to actually do it. But I know that it is better that I get everything organized now before they get into highschool than later. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it would be then. Thank God I am not to that point yet. Well I guess its going to be short and sweet today. My dog is barking and the kids are wanting lunch. LOL

Hope you all have a great and blessed day.

Been a bit busy

I have been super busy lately. Trying to get organized and getting ready for Thanksgiving. It's been different. Plus we are about to start planning the conversion of our garage into a couple more rooms.  My oldest dd needs her own room and we need a multipurpose area for the computers and school stuff. It's going to be nice to have that extra space. Anyway, I will have to come back later and update.

Hollywild

We decided to take the kids to Hollywild this past Sunday. It was a lot of fun. The girls got to bottle feed baby goats. We also feed Llama's, Alpaca's, Buffalo, Zebra's, Deer, Ostrich's, Emu's, Cows, and several other animals. We discovered that goats spit. Never in my life would I ever thought that  I would see a goat spit. Yet there it was in plain site a baby goat spit at dd 2.

We also seen a Rhino, Lions, Leopards, Panther (The Carolina Panther Mascot JR), Capybara's, Ducks, Geese, sheep, baboons, capichan (sp) monkies, Orangatan, Horse, Scarlett Macaws, Lemurs, camels and many more animals. Roaming free was Peacocks, Peahens, and guineas.  I had never seen baby peacocks/peahens before and there they were following mama peahen around the park.

We did both the Wild Cat ride around the park and they explained about the different animals and the Safari bus ride to feed the more exotic animals. This Christmas we are going to try to go back up to see the Christmas lights. They decorate the park with tons of lights and you drive through it. It is really cool. Here is a scrap layout I made of some of the pics I took of the kids at Hollywild. Enjoy!

Burnt Out

I've been thinking alot about my priorities as a homeschool mom. I was really burned out for a while and having to force myself to school the kids. I was so excited when we started and then I get bummed and then excited again. I'm really working hard to fulfill the role of teacher as well as wife and mom that God has called me to be. I am determined that I am going to get excited about school again. Even if that means switching up the curriculum a bit. I really think that would be a HUGE benefit to the girls as well. Now that I have made that decision I am excited again. I LOVE our curriculum but I need to open up to other things as well. One kid does well with our curriculum and the other gets bored. The youngest could care less since she doesn't use it like the older two. But I am praying and praying that God will show me what to work with. I'm going to let HIM lead me rather than me find what I like and forcing my children to do something that they get bored with.

Okay that is enough rambling for now. LOL Anyway, I'm looking forward to the coming weeks. WooHoo!!

Tuesday Reviews

Every Tuesday I will post a review of some type of homeschool site, book, or product.

Today I would like to share with you a site that I really like. It's A. H. Tucker's Homeschool stuff. She has all kinds of printables and links for homeschoolers. She's a homeschool mom herself and a former teacher. There is also a forums and a blog. Check it out.
