Dec. 28, 2007 - Saturday Psalm and Praise

Psalm 19
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
 1   The heavens declare the glory of God;
       the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

 2   Day after day they pour forth speech;
       night after night they display knowledge.

 3   There is no speech or language
       where their voice is not heard. [a]

 4   Their voice [b] goes out into all the earth,
       their words to the ends of the world.
       In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

 5   which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
       like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

 6   It rises at one end of the heavens
       and makes its circuit to the other;
       nothing is hidden from its heat.

 7   The law of the LORD is perfect,
       reviving the soul.
       The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
       making wise the simple.

 8   The precepts of the LORD are right,
       giving joy to the heart.
       The commands of the LORD are radiant,
       giving light to the eyes.

 9   The fear of the LORD is pure,
       enduring forever.
       The ordinances of the LORD are sure
       and altogether righteous.

 10   They are more precious than gold,
       than much pure gold;
       they are sweeter than honey,
       than honey from the comb.

 11   By them is your servant warned;
       in keeping them there is great reward.

 12   Who can discern his errors?
       Forgive my hidden faults.

 13   Keep your servant also from willful sins;
       may they not rule over me.
       Then will I be blameless,
       innocent of great transgression.

 14   May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
       be pleasing in your sight,
       O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

I love this passage from Psalms.  I feel safe in saying that at times we all say things we don't mean or things come out the wrong way; or sometimes we say or do something out of frustration and maybe don't realize it.  I've said things that I thought were purely innocent and offended someone without even knowing it.  I've done things that caused heartache and pain to others and even though I've apologized and asked for forgiveness it doesn't make me less guilty or make me feel better knowing that I've caused someone heartache.  The hardest part for me is being able to forgive myself, even though I know by asking God for forgiveness he's given it to me.  It teaches that no matter where we are or who we are with we are still heard by God.  I don't really know if this passage means all this to anyone else but this is the affect and the provocation that I get when I read it.

Have a blessed day in the Lord~

Dec. 30, 2007 - What it Means to Me...

Posted by melissal89
I believe this psalm is mainly speaking of two things:

1) that everything in nature is God’s creation and because of that it silently but effectively cries out to everyone about the Truth of His existence; and

2) it’s about God’s law being perfect, giving us a list of all the things it does in our lives, including that it keeps us from doing “willful” sins. Willful to me means those sins for which we are plainly and obviously responsible for. Not the ones in which we may unknowingly or accidentally do.

I think the reason we still feel guilty though is because the Spirit is convicting us to be “aware” of it from that point forward, to help us not to do it again. So many times I too have been guilty of unwillful sins and the guilt has helped me to grow closer into the image of Christ.

The trick for me is to remember to ask the Spirit to help me to then let go of that guilt and move forward. And not allow it to discourage me and bring me down in the opposite direction in which God wants me to move.

Blessings, Melissa

Seven Steps to Raising Godly Children

Principle - Impart God's word on your children and live in a way that you are their greatest example of what a Christ-abiding parent should be.

Pattern - Teach your children a pattern of prayer; when to pray, how to pray, and why prayer is important.

Persistence - Don't ever give up...teach your children to always have faith and not to give up when things get hard.

Participation - Our children crave our attention! The way our children see us is the way they'll see God in thier lives.

Praise - Encourage children, praise them when they do something right and help them when they have a hard time.

Prayer - Teach your children to pray and then to TRUST God for the outcome.

Priority - Make God the Head and Heart of your home and let them live with God's desire coming first in your lives.
