Jan. 10, 2008 - Blessings for Hard Times

In the Nook...

These are blessings that have been compiled by a few of my co-op friends  to share with homeschoolers who may be new to this lifestyle or may just be having a hard time in their lives.  I wanted so badly to share what has blessed me for the last two years not only as a member of this co-op, but a mother who once didn't have the support of other homeschoolers around me.

"In this you greatly rejoice even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
1 Peter 1: 6-7
                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be God's Ideal Family
Show how much you love your husband or wife to your children.  Educate your children to love each other.  Do not fight with brother and sisters; do not fight with your spouse in front of your children.  Please teach your children to love people and to love the world.  Please educate your children to know about God and His truth at home also.  Educate your children to do something for the world to make it a better world to live in.
                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A veteran homeschool mom wrote this:  A woman I admire, respect and love dearly!

1) Although homeschooling has been proven to be academically excellent, don't belittle yourself on those days when you feel you have accomplished nothing.  Your priority in homeschooling should be teaching things of eternal significance and if you teach them nothing yet they make it to Heaven, then that is enough!~  Don't sweat it.

2) Don't be afraid to try new things even if it means throwing out those expensive new textbooks you just purchased.  If they aren't working for your child they are worthless!

                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every year I ask God for a Bible verse specifically for school that I can claim.  Every year He gives me one and when I am nervous or think I want to quit I remember the verse and promise He gives me.
God picked you, divinely to be your child's parent and teacher.  He does not make anything but perfect decisions, therefore, follow your instincts to uniquely train up your child in the ways he/she should go.
                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Keep learning fun~  Everyone gets resentful if no one is enjoying the learning process.

                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.   Isaiah 40:31   This verse really helps me know that God is my strength.
                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One last note and this is quoted from a friend of mine who is very dear to my heart.

"Even still, I felt God encouraging me that I was to trust Him for this situation and many others like it in my life, situations that look just as impossible. And isn’t that what faith is all about? Believing in what we can’t see? Why do we so easily forget that "…faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1. If only we understood the realm of the unseen, through the eyes of faith, we would simply rest and leave the results with God!"  ~Jill Novak

After I read this passage from Jill's blog it helped me to realize that educating people, not just children, is one of those unseen blessings.  We don't often see the results of our labor in the Lord until, many times, years later; oftentimes, however, we see sooner joys without having the wait.  Praise God for those days!!!

And now for my praise to God for all His blessings that He's given to me and mine.

ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
ALL TO HIM I FREELY GIVE;
I WILL EVER LOVE AND TRUST HIM,
IN HIS PRESENCE DAILY LIVE.

I SURRENDER ALL, I SURRENDER ALL;
ALL TO THEE, MY BLESSED SAVIOUR,
I SURRENDER ALL.

ALL TO JESUS, I SURRENDER,
MAKE ME, SAVIOUR, WHOLLY THINE;
LET ME FEEL THY HOLY SPIRIT,
TRULY KNOW THAT THOU ART MINE.

ALL TO JESUS, I SURRENDER,
LORD, I GIVE MYSELF TO THEE;
FILL ME WITH THY LOVE AND POWER,
LET THY BLESSING FALL ON ME.

Seven Steps to Raising Godly Children

Principle - Impart God's word on your children and live in a way that you are their greatest example of what a Christ-abiding parent should be.

Pattern - Teach your children a pattern of prayer; when to pray, how to pray, and why prayer is important.

Persistence - Don't ever give up...teach your children to always have faith and not to give up when things get hard.

Participation - Our children crave our attention! The way our children see us is the way they'll see God in thier lives.

Praise - Encourage children, praise them when they do something right and help them when they have a hard time.

Prayer - Teach your children to pray and then to TRUST God for the outcome.

Priority - Make God the Head and Heart of your home and let them live with God's desire coming first in your lives.
