Mar. 18, 2008 - Smile! BFS #19

I thought this week that we could all give back to others.  Since it's coming up on Good Friday and Easter and Christ gave His life for us, that we could give back for as little as the cost of a fifty cent card and stamp.  A friend of mine at our co-op, she doesn't have a blog but SHOULD had a great idea for everyone to send a card or gift if you would like to a child who is suffering with an illness or maybe incurable disease.  Above and below are the links for the Make a Child Smile organization.  What the assignment this week entails is for all of us to go and pick up the name and address of a child that we will pledge to send a card to.  You can even send it anonymous since I know so many people are worried about internet safety.  I, personally, always feel a strong calling to help others, especially children who may not physically be able to help anyone because they're fighting for their lives.  The information for the company is below in case you're leary of sending a card to them.  You can also mail it to me and I'll send it for you if you'd like.  My address will be listed in the first comment.  You can also add to the assignment by having your children join in a send cards with you...make it a family affair.  If you'd like you may post pictures of what you're going to send, i.e., card, gift. or anything you felt led to send.  Thanks and have a great day!

Founded in May of 1998, by Alexandra Bakker, the Make A Child Smile Organization, also known as MACS, has been a source of support to children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses and their families. Emotional support is provided by creating the opportunity for people to visit the MACS website and learn about the children and their illnesses.

Each month, new children are featured. A picture and biography describing the child and information about their family is published on the website. Hundreds of 'net surfers, schools, service organizations, girls/boys scouts and church groups use the MACS website as a philanthropic project where they can send cards, letters and small gifts to the featured children and their siblings through postal mail.

In December of 2000, MACS was granted tax-exempt status so that it could expand its mission to include fund-raising efforts in order to provide financial assistance to qualifying families for help with medical, funeral expenses or other costs associated with the child's illness.

Our Mission
To provide emotional and financial support to families whose children suffer from chronic or life-threatening illnesses and also give those who visit the MACS website the opportunity to participate by sending mail to the children.

Hi Nancy! Just wanted to let you know that the Alexandra link is good, but the Make-a-Child smile (I think that's the name) is broken.

I said to myself, "The first...twice...what is she talking about? Did I accidentally submit it twice?"

How funny...I totally forgot about the first one.

Sleeping better? Ah, that sounds *dreamy*. If only I could.

p.s. I could've been first thrice tonight if Ms. Lynn didn't spoil all the fun! :0) You've got some really good students, eh?!

Hi Nancy.. part of the problem is the "over the border" thing.. It's so expensive to mail things into the states.. no, I didn't look at the list.. I just assumed they were all American children.. Yes, I definitely agree - we are ALL God's children.. and this is what I meant - every human being is God's child.. we all need each other to be compassionate towards one another. I tried to "be in spirit" with your assignment, even thought I wasn't keeping to the assignment exactly.

Sorry, I'm the difficult student in the class.. the one who always tests the teacher.. lol

I made a little change with my Friends List. It's on the left side and to open it just click on the word "Friends" and it pops out! Neat, huh! To close it click on it again! Thank you

Seven Steps to Raising Godly Children

Principle - Impart God's word on your children and live in a way that you are their greatest example of what a Christ-abiding parent should be.

Pattern - Teach your children a pattern of prayer; when to pray, how to pray, and why prayer is important.

Persistence - Don't ever give up...teach your children to always have faith and not to give up when things get hard.

Participation - Our children crave our attention! The way our children see us is the way they'll see God in thier lives.

Praise - Encourage children, praise them when they do something right and help them when they have a hard time.

Prayer - Teach your children to pray and then to TRUST God for the outcome.

Priority - Make God the Head and Heart of your home and let them live with God's desire coming first in your lives.
