Poll of the Week

How are you getting ready for NaNoWriMo?
I don't think I really need to prepare for it at all.
I'm trying to find enough paper to use.
Ack! My plot's not ready yet!
I have 50 pounds of chocolate. That should be enough.
I will be fine as long as someone remembers to give me coffee.
I'm worrying that I'll be too busy to do NaNo.
I've done all my preparing. :)
I'm trying to figure out what to post on the NaNo blog.
I can't wait to start writing my story!
NaNoWriMo? What's that?
pollcode.com free polls

What is your preferred method of writing?
I like the feel of handwriting.
I type everything on the computer, of course!
I type sometimes and handwrite other times.

The Members:

Poetic Maiden

Cherise, the head coordinator of this blog, is a dreamy young teenager (with long, flowing brown hair) who loves writing poetry, drawing, and hiking in the Colorado Rocky Mountains whenever she is not busy working on her first novel, The Prophet of Aenywroe. NaNo '08 will be Cherise's first NaNoWriMo, and she is planning on doing another high fantasy novel. Visit Cherise's regular blog here.

Cherise's NaNoWriMo username is 'FaerynPoetess', and you can view her NaNo profile here.

Vintage Authoress

Katie is a very non-normal, geeky teen girl (and proud of it!) who enjoys sitting on a swing listening to Enya and Blackmore's Night on her iPod while daydreaming about her story, to almost every other activity, and practically lives on her tree swing. She also enjoys wandering around her back yard in a medieval gown, and visiting her Aunt and Uncle's ranch in Hanaskea/Eternethia (aka Missouri).

Queen Flora

If it began to rain in the midst of me typing this, I'd jump out of my chair in mid sentence and forget about everything as I would instantly be pulled into my imagination, lost somewhere no doubt. I'd run barefoot into the grass and tilt my head upwards as the fresh rain poured down soaking my hair and cloths. I'd take a deep breath of the wet grassy scent and instantly loose track of all time. That's me through and through, so even when I'm not writing my story, I'm always imagining or day dreaming about it. To know more about me come to my blog click here.

Writer4him

Photobucket

When she's not blogging and template-making, Beth enjoys losing herself in any of her novels in progress. She discovered NaNoWriMo in 2007 and was quite happy to make it to 50,000 words by the end of November, with a final word count of...50,003! Other interests include horseback riding, web design, and friendly debates over the Civil War.

Visit Beth's blog here.

Mariella1214

Mariella needs a life other than writing. She's written 3 novels, is working on a fourth, planning her NaNovel for this year, and dreading editing the second, because it just got way too long. She has participated in NaNo 2007 and won, with about 59,000 words. When she's not actually writing, she's fuming because her FictionPress readers died on her, planning more stories/brainstorming about the latest chapter she has to write, daydreaming, panicking about global warming, practicing piano, and listening to music. She keeps pen pals.

Ariana Evenstar

Meggy T/Ariana Evenstar is your average homeschooling freaky 16 year old! She has 9 little siblings, and her real stuff (blood, excitement, elves, emotional trauma, and happy endings)comes out when she's writing fantasy. This is her first time to participate in NaNoWriMo, and she's very excited about it! Check out her blog here

Ness

Photobucket

I like to climb trees that people tell me are too weak; I like climb them to the very top and sit on the branches that people say won't hold me and I like to sit up in a tree while there is a strong wind blowing (strong enough that people say I will fall out:) and that's me. I don't want to fill out any tags (not that anyone tagged me) I might next month and If you're wondering what I've been doing today, well I've been sitting in the topmost branches of a tree...

Forestcrazy

Svenja comes up with her best ideas when she is supposed to be doing math but is instead staring out the window. This also happens in front of her friends, in public, etc. when her brain sees something that inspires the creative cells to brainstorm. During these times, and other frequent random times, her friends make fun of her and say she lives in another world. Its name is Draeil.

MaidenCapitolaBallot

Capitola, which is not her real name, is very strange 21-year-old. When not found in front of her conputer busily typing away you can usually find her with her nose in a book or riding her bike around town watching people. She feels that the most important thing for a good book is believable characters and so watchs those around her dor insperation. She has a new saying, "If you don't want to end up in one of my books I sugest you avoid me!"

She has been known to yell at her computer while writing and becoming disgusted with certain characters when they take on lives of their own and do things without her permission. All those who know her think she is very weird.

She gets her inspiration for books from books she reads, movies, daily life, certain people, or just from something that popped into her head. She lives in Wyoming and feels that wild wind offers the best inspiration, she can sit for hours, staring into the wind. A daydreamer and adventurer, she lives in her own world and only comes out for occasional visits.

This is her first NaNoWriMo, though not her first tale.

Altariel

Gabrielle, aka Altariel aka ElvishKiwi, has dabbled in fantasy, historical fiction and fanfiction, as well as penning several rants so long they could be classified as books on their own. She finds sordid pleasure in writing extreme angst, and considers nothing greater compliment to her writing than making her readers bawl hysterically.

She takes great delight in writing elephantine comments, raving about her country, chatting online and flitting from one writing project to another like a frazzled homeschooling mother trying to supervise seven kids at once. Which is, incidentally, a situation she witnesses every day.

She has begun countless novels in the past, but in every case seems to have become stuck somewhere around the 30,000 word mark, and simultaneously been inspired with some new plot which really won't leave her alone. Hence, despite a total novel wordcount of hundreds of thousands, she has only actually completed one of the things. She is hoping NaNo will pull her into line...

This will be her first NaNo. She is eagerly looking forward to it, as she is convinced that she thrives on pressure like a bicycle tyre.

Tinuviel

Christina (who prefers to be summoned by her Elvish alias) is a not-so-average 16 year-old who has the audacity to call herself a welder of words and couldn't harness inspiration if her life depended upon it. She revels in all things dark, poetic, and fantastical.

In her spare time, she enjoys listening to sad music, attempting to pick out her favorite songs on the piano, and/or daydreaming about her latest project. She currently abides in flat Illinois, and wishes she lived in Middle-Earth.

NaNoWriMo will be a new experience for her, and she is looking forward to and dreading it in equal proportions.

LadyMariane

Arabella Knightley/Sam, at eighteen going on nineteen, believes God is calling her into the writing world. She enjoys scribbling down poems, historical fiction, and most especially mysteries! Always looking on the "darker side", she twists and weaves her way through espionage, traitorous acts, and a sprinkle of romance in her WWII set stories. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, sewing, using her beloved "Booth", watching period movies (Her heroes including Christopher Foyle, Albert Campion, Nick and Nora Charles, and Inspector Alleyn), playing the piano, writing letters, being a big sister to her 7 younger siblings, and a little sister to her 3 older ones...She considers her love for children and writting as gifts from God, believing He is calling her to work towards becoming a children's author. This will be her 4th NaNo year, and she is determined to actually make the 50,000 word mark this time. She has started so many novels, that she is working towards finally finishing one!!!

Oct. 30, 2008

Hello All!

Well, I'm new to this club and have never before have participated in NaNoWriMo. I just recently figured out what it is! I am so exited for it to start! Umm...some things about myself is that I want a horse really bad, I love to write, read and climb trees. I act out my stories in the backyard so I know how they will unfold and then write them all down as best I can remember. I am fasinated with colonial, prairie, and medievil times. I live in the world of...oh boy, I forgot I haven't made up the world's name yet, but I have made up many of the cities name, and I live in the story book city of Marrott.

I look forward to writing more,

Ellie (Horsewings)

BAD NEWS.

Sven here. AKA forescrazy.

I have bad news.

I WON'T BE ABLE TO TALK ON HERE WITH ALL OF Y'ALL ON FRIDAY NIGHT.

Sob.

I have a lock in with my Wednesday night youth group. But I'll be here Saturday! Anyone sticking around that long?

So, sorry to break the news, but I hope y'all will remember me. I'll be praying for y'all! By the way, for you American people, don't forget to pray for the election this week...for God's will to be done and the people in this country, that they will hear Him speak and listen. We're slowly slipping farther and farther from Him...and it makes me very sad.

Lightening the mood,
DRINK ORANGE JUICE INSTEAD OF COFFEE DURING NANO.

By the way, I'm having trouble with the FORUMS, so if someone could help me I'd love them forever :)

What ho!

Hello! My name is Sam (my HSB is homeschoolblogger.com/secretwriter), and Katie (VintageAuthoress) introduced me to this group! I'm 18, love to read, write, play piano, use my camera (named "Booth" ;-)), and listen to music. :D I'm the 4th oldest of 11 children, I'm a 2007 homeschool graduate, work part-time at the library, and am taking a course through the mail on writing children's literature. :D I believe God is calling me to write for children, but I also LOVE to write mysteries in my spare time. :D This is my 4th year of NaNoWriMo (I am sooo determined to actually make the 50,000 word mark this time! :D Of course, I say that every year...but this year is different. :P Anyhow, my story this year is titled (as of right now) "Pearls in Her Hair". It is a prequel to the novel I wrote last year, "Death Because of Amber: A Mark and Karrie Mystery".
Detective Chief Mark Ingleford is the youngest detective chief ever known on the Boston police force, at the age of...(erm, I think it's 24....*shrugs* Something for me to still figure out). He has just been promoted, when a case set in the countryside of New England calls for his expertise, along with his trusty sidekick: Sgt. Holbrook. There have been mysterious deaths at a great mansion in the middle of nowhere, with suspects abounding, and a group of pearls at the heart of it all. Is it greed? Blackmail? Who knows! Along the way, Mark bumps into the young photographer: Karrie Ingleford. He finds her annoying, amusing, and very interesting. As the mystery gets even more tangled, Mark and Karrie have to team up together to solve the crime. This story takes place in the late '30s...
There's not much else I can say about it, only that I'm having a blast cooking up all sorts of ideas for it. :D

So that's me, and that's my story!! This group sounds like great fun, and I'm glad to be a part of it!
Ciao fer now!

Accountability Partners

The first obvious question to ask is: who abandoned the blog?

Answer: I did.    Sorry.

Anyhow, I wanted to tell everyone about something we've been discussing on the forums: accountability partners.  Basically, everyone pairs up with someone else in the group, exchanges email addresses (if parents approve), and encourages them and eggs them on during November.  The partner duties would include:

  1. Sending whatever you write for NaNo each day to your partner.
  2. Housing your partner's NaNo on your computer WITHOUT READING IT (unless your partner says you can).
  3. Encouraging your partner when she is having a bad day.
  4. Suggesting plot twists when your partner has come to a dead end.
  5. Doing Word Wars  :)
  6. And any other fun things you can think of!

As you can see from the list above, part of the duties of partners would be to exchange stories via email.  Now, I know every one of you is paranoid that your partner is going to read or steal your story.  The reason we are doing this is so that if your computer dies during November, you won't have lost the story you've been laboring over.

Now, this whole this is optional, so you don't have to do it if you don't want to.  I just think it's a fun idea to keep us going during November.

As for who's partnered up so far:

Cherise (me) and Mariella

Cherise and Meggy (forgot to mention: double or triple partnering is allowed)

Katie is either partnering with Tinuviel or Altariel, we don't know yet.

Beth might be partnering with Mariella

Mariella might be partnering with Svenja

Basically, it's still a mess at this point.  We're still figuring it out.

I also want to extend an invitation to those of you who are inactive members to please check out the forums!  There is a TON of activity going on there!  We now have more than 500 posts!

And for those of you who can't figure out how to make the forums, here's how: log in to your account first (after you get one), and then click on one of the forum sections.  A screen will pop up asking you to submit a password.  Type in the password to get into this blog (everyone remembers it, right?).  Then you should be able to navigate the forums without a hitch!

Blessings!

Cherise

Chatroom

So I logged onto Bravenet for the first time and created a chatroom there. Apparently it can't be just a pop-up, so if you close the page you logged in on, the chat box goes along with it. Hopefully we can all just minimize this and ignore it.

Which means we need to make a party room seperately. Unless someone has a better way to create a chat room -- though, believe me, I will be searching for one.

So if you want to log in it'll kinda be in steps. Step one, log in. Step two, minimize login page. Step three, enter party room. I guess it doesn't really matter though, since we won't be using the chat all day -- maybe ^^' -- other than on November.

I'll get to decorating tomorrow after I've had feedback from everyone on my ideas.

-Mariella

Forum swap

ETA:  Once again, the forum is password protected.  If you click on any of the boards you will be prompted to enter the password, which is (again) the same as for this blog.

Hey, guys.  I'm terribly sorry to do this to all of you...but, if you click on the link to our forum, you'll find yourself at an entirely new board.  By way of explanation:  Bravenet's forums, I discovered, have a limit of 250 posts, which is utterly ridiculous given the amount of conversation that will be going on there during November.  So I packed up in a huff and settled with Suddenlaunch--a more "normal" forum setup, where we can have usernames and avatars and fun stuff like that :-).  Currently I have put up the forum rules and instructions, and I'd really appreciate it if y'all wouldn't mind starting up some of the topics we had going at the old forum--inspiring music, favorite places to write, and such.  Oh, you'll notice there's three categories: General, Writing, and NaNoWriMo.  I think most the topics we had going before would fit under Writing, but y'all can decide.

Also, the threads are veiwable by MEMBERS ONLY, so be sure to sign up.  At the moment I'm set as the Administrator, but if you want I can set everyone as mods... *grin*  Then we could all share the power!

Again, I'm really sorry I didn't do this sooner!  Hopefully we can pick up things were we left off.

~Beth

I would like to officially invite y'all to please use the forums!!!  There is a lot of interesting discussion going on there right now.  If you do nothing else, please read the rules of the forum just so that you know them.  The password is the same as for the NaNo blog.

God bless!

Look! We have a nav bar!

ETA: The forums are now password-protected.  The password to enter is the same as for this blog.

So, with Mariella's consent, I took it upon myself to create a website template that sort of meshed with this blog--that way we can skip back and forth and feel as if we're on the same site.  Hence the navbar overhead.  You won't find much if you click around, but you're welcome to look.  I'm still working on incorporating the chatroom and forum (if we want a forum)--probably the pages will just be linked to them, and then there'll be a "return to site" link on that page.  As for the home page and members page, I shall leave it up to all of you to decide what should go there.

Okay, a note to Mariella while I'm here: you probably noticed that the site isn't the freewebs one.  I went to fx up that template, remembered that Freewebs doesn't have options for CSS folders, and decided I should go ahead and get a free bravenet site rather than wait around to ask.  So excuse my boldness... :-)

On the subject of the bravenet site, I think that might be better anyhow, since it has a wonderful option for editing, so even those of us with no HTML knowledge can add information to a page.  The username and password is the same for the previous freewebs site, so you guys feel free to log in and check things out.

I'm officially finished...

~Beth

=o Shiny.

Mariella here. Hmm... my first post. Let's see how it goes.

Okay, concerning group webbie. I created it because I got overexcited (thankfully Cherise didn't kill me =D) and then realized that we are more than two people here. I don't know what to do with that website, other than the chat room. So let's put together a group idea. There's the link to the webbie on the top-left corner. I don't know how to decorate it. Do you want to choose a specific color? I don't know if you would want member bios and NaNo stats. If so, would you prefer to replace your pictures with avatars? That's no problem. Lastly, the blog. If we go along with it, I was thinking it would be only for use during the NaNo season, and in it we will post every participant (in this group)'s word count achievements by the end of the day. I was thinking of scheduled group chats, in which as many of us as possible could gather in The Gathering Room (teehee) and do Word Wars (THE most fun thing in existence, might I add, I really hope we can do it) and just chat and become closer friends. =) This group is capable of a very fun November, but we all need to pitch in ideas. I'm willing to give the password to all of you, but you need to send me a PM so I can give it to you. It's quite silly. Hard to figure out, but not hard to remember.

This weekend I'll work on the chat room and the time zone countdowns. I haven't done HTML in centuries and it's going to be hard to adjust to the tags and stuff... ugh, I dread it. But it'll be worth it in the end. I believe it's been a group decision to go by your own time zone. Ah well, I'm still a proud Mountain Timer, I don't really care. =)

Whatever we decide to do with the site, it's going to be fun. But I need comments from all of you to shape it the right way. Please, please put in your opinions. I don't have enough of them to make this into something that suits us all.

Random fact: Right now I am rejoicing that I hit 50,000 words on rewriting my novel... what a shame it isn't NaNo...

Anyways, don't forget to comment. =) This is going to take a while, though, so after this post has 'expired' (lol) go ahead and email or NaNomail me (my email is available on the webbie.) Unless you are willing to help with the decorating, in which case I will give you the password. Decorating is really quite easy. You just don't know which template to choose from.

I also ask for opinions because I chose a stupid poll website that only shows votes in percentages. Ugh. Good thinking, Mariella.

Anyways... thanks!

-Mari

And, as usual, Squid has no title. But this has something to do with TIME PERIODS.

If any of you have seen my blog at least once, you will see that I have quite a rough time with titles.

Anyway, I apologise for my lack of contributing to this blog, I really MUST do better to keep up with it. That will hopefully be easier now that I have added the widget to my blog! See http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/writingsquid/

The link did NOT work, as is my luck of the Irish. :P

So I was wondering just now, what time period does your story take place in? Post a comment.

That's all I wanted to know - I must go now, have to call my friend for info on a book I'm about to start writing. I never stop! MUAHA. My novel takes place in the medieval ages. Any suggestions for a year? That would greatly help.

Love to all writers...and those who don't.

An idea

Well, me and Molly had a joint idea, since NaNo starts on a Saturday, wouldn't it be awesome if as many of us as possible could stay up till 1 o'clock in the morning Friday night?

We could pass the time by:
  1. Watching movies that inspire us
  2. Read books that inspire us
  3. Listening to music that inspires us

And of course, chatting with each other

Then, at the stroke of midnight (you know, that saying is kind of funny now a days, seeing as though very few clocks even tick, much less stoke at the hours!) We can all get in one hour's worth of writing before we head off to bed!

Well, what do you think? Please ask your parents if you can, and let me know. It would be so fun! Especially because I'm most inspired at night (that may have something to do with that fact that that's the only time my house is quiet with three little sisters roughhousing all day long!)

Also, if we do, I think that each of us should get our own c box on this blog, or use the ones on our other blogs, if you've ever chatted with four of more people, you'll know that it gets confusing! And with all of us having different conversations, it will be a jumbled mess! Again, let me know what you think!

~ Katie

What are you writing for NaNo this year?

Hello,
this is Molly, otherwise known as QueenFlora. I was wondering if anyone wanted to, if they could share what their NaNoWriMo novel will be about this year, that is, if you all even know what what you are going to be writing. So I'll start with mine.
All I have yet decided (and of course things can change suddenly) is that it will talk place in the Regency Era, the time that Jane Austen lived. I am a huge fan of Jane Austen's novels, and I love her writing style. I don't know if any of you have read any of her books, but I just love them! Anyway I have been trying to study her style of writing, for I love how she words her thoughts, and am curently experimenting by trying to fashion my sentences and wording as she would have done. Anyway back to my story...so it is to take place in the time of Jane Austen, and there will be a gentleman and lady who will get married in the very end. Just like Jane Austen's novels. Actually it is more of a fun experiment to try my skill upon taking after other authors, in this case authoress. Anyway I'm not sure what's going to happen in it altogether but I shall think up somthing.
Well that about sums it all up, if any of you want to share what you are going to write I would love to here about it!
Yours as ever,
Miss Molly

Announcements

I have a few announcements to make:

1.  There is now a handy countdown timer at the bottom of the page!  Scroll down all the way to see it!  Feel free to move it somewhere else on the template if you want.  I hope you all like it!

2.  We now have a widget!  I took the liberty of making a widget for the NaNoWriMo Lounge, and it is currently residing on the right sidebar.  Check it out and add it to your blog!  (If you completely hate the color I chose, please tell me and I can change it.

3.  I would like you to take note of our avatar.  It is pretty, but it has nothing to do with NaNoWriMo.  I was wondering if someone who has the skills and the technology would make us a spiffier avatar?  Preferably it would portray a pencil or a pen, and have the words, 'The NaNoWriMo Lounge' on it.  Would anyone be willing to do something like that?

Wait, I have a better idea.  How about we have a contest to see who can come up with the best avatar, and we all get to vote on the winner?  Would anyone else be interested in something like that?

4.  Next time you log in, please add your email address to the mailing list so that you will be notified whenever there's a new post on here.

Thank you!

~Cherise
