Jul. 3, 2008 - Gnomes

Ok, a short post. The Narnian(s) of the month are... Earthmen also know as Gnomes. They are really not from Nanria but from bism which is a land under narnia. Earthmen lived in service to the lady of the Green Kirtle for many years under a spell, being made to dig up to narnia. Under the spell of the evil queen the Earthmen were very solemn, until ( **spoilers**) the Queen was killed and the enchantment was lifted. then they were back to there true self, happy and joyously celebrating there returning to Bism. Hope you enjoyed the very short post! Happy 4 of july! Grace

Jun. 13, 2008 - Elephants/ Drawings

June:
Narnian of the month: Creature, Elephant.

Some of you may know that I like elephants. I started collecting them a few years ago.
My collection has gotten big. I now have about 43 elephants. My collection includes a bank, many figurines, stuffed animals, pictures, pillows, clothing, and I even have one made out of hay. As well as having a collection elephants I also study them (as much as I be able to).

In the Magicians Nephew, in chapter 9 the founding of Narnia elephants are created

“ But the greatest moment of al was when the biggest hump broke like a small earthquake and out came the sloping back, the Large, wise head and the four baggy treasured legs of and elephant.”

The first Elephant is present at the First Council of Narnia, and his wife vainly takes great pride in the length of her trunk

An elephant is a placental mammal, which means it has live babies. (As apposed to laying eggs) the name for a baby elephant is calf.  The name for a mother elephant is cow.  The father is called a bull.

Each year an elephant eats approximately 1,600 loaves of bread, 100,000 pounds of hay, 12,000 pounds of alfalfa, 15,00 gallons of mixed grains, 2,000 potatoes, and for a “treat” 3,000 fruits and vegetables.  They also drink 15,500 gallons of water.  Elephants actually eat twice the amount of food they need.

All elephants are very good swimmers in spite of the size of their bodies, they use their trunks to breathe under water like a snorkel sticking out of the water.

All elephants have their “name” carved on the lower part of their leg.  This is how they identify each other, kind of like a human fingerprint.

The time that an elephant lives depends on it’s teeth because all elephants have 6 sets of teeth.  They wear out from the food that an elephant eats and the last set is usually worn out when an elephant is about 60 years old.  When the last set of teeth wears out the elephant can no longer chew and therefore dies of starvation.  This is usually how an elephant naturally dies.

Maybe you’ve heard that elephants are afraid of mice. The size of an elephant protects it from its predators.  Not even a lion or tiger would want to attack a full-grown elephant.  Therefore, elephants are most definitely not afraid of mice. Although if one saw Reepicheep I’m sure there would be exceptions, Reepicheep can kill with looks.

An elephant’s tail has only a few hairs at the end, but it makes a perfect fly swatter.

All thought elephants in Narnia are never mentioned fighting I am sure that some fought in between the books. In are world they fought in many places, China, Sri Lanka, Burma (now Myanmar) and Thailand all use elephants in all their wars. In the middle ages and before, although in 1987 Iraq used them to transport heavy weaponry.

•    A cow (Female Elephant) usual has only 1 calf ( Baby Elephant)and sometimes twins.
•    It takes 20-24 months to have a baby.
•    An elephant’s trunk has over 100,000 muscle units in it.
•    Elephant trunks can get very heavy. Sometimes you can see elephants resting them over a tusk!
•    Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh!
•    Elephants don't drink with their trunks, but use them as "tools" to drink with. Filling the trunk with water and then using it as a hose to pour it into the elephant’s mouth accomplish this.

Also,

A few drawings I have done recently.

May. 19, 2008 - I'v seen the movie!

**~~Warning: some spoilers follow. Do not read until you have seen the movie! ~~**

I have seen Prince Caspian and… I loved it!
My brother and I went in costume, which was really fun!
Siah looked so cute! I can't do any pictures right now, sorry but will soon.

Speaking of the costumes…I loved them all! Lucy’s dress at the end (Green, pink, gold, & white.) was gorgeous as was Susan’s. (If only a bit more modest)

Characters were very well done. Reepicheep was so great I loved him! He looked and sounded very much like how I wanted him to! Very valiant and at times very funny, and I must say I thought he was very cute too.  Trumpkin was good, he looked great, but he was not quite as I had imagined him. Peter made me a bit mad at times but in the end he turned around. Susan was herself.  I think they did pretty well with her character as far as her not really believing in Narnia later. Edmund was great, my favorite, he always was supporting Peter and was definitely a better big brother than in LWW.And Lucy! I love Lucy! :) Her faith in Aslan and graciousness towards Peter and Susan is a good example. The way she apologized to Aslan was so sincere, she wasn't trying to justify her choice at all but simply said she was sorry. Lucy is the best, I just hope she stays the same for VOTDT. Ben Barnes did a good job with Caspian I must say, although he was not as young as I would have liked.  Miraz was very much evil! I loved how much I disliked him!  I have never really be able to take him seriously before because in the dramatized version he doesn’t sound evil just *misunderstood* which is all wrong! Dr. C was hardly in it but I liked him. Queen Prunaprismia was a good character but I agree with Narniagirl she should have had red hair! Oh well I liked what they did with her. And Aslan.... bigger but better? There was this whole anticipation for him to come and when he did it was so exiting I had shivers going down my back!
He was only in it for about 15-20 minutes about 5 of which was a *dream*, but when he was there I loved him! He looked so lovingly at Lucy, with his big beautiful eyes!

Now for some down sides. Caspian & Susan kiss which was not as bad as it could have been, at least he did not go and kiss her she went back to him, but it was still not right! I mean to Caspian, Queen Susan the gentle, is a story that his nurse would tell him when he was little! I had my hand on my forehead as soon as Susan turned back. (Which made my sister laugh at me) The rivalry between Peter & Caspian was not that bad.

The music was great! I loved the song at the end The Call (in fact my mom is singing it right now!) and I loved how they played the song The Wardrobe (from LWW) at the part when Lucy finds Aslan! That was so cool!

Lots of different things from the book but I loved it!
I would encourage any one to go see it!
Did I like it better than LWW? I would have to say yes!
I would give it 4 1/2 out of 5, as would my family.
Go to Narniagirl's blog and Lucy's blog for more reviews!
And now I am pleased to say that…

May. 11, 2008 - Lucys Rust-Red Dress #6

Well  we are Finished with the dress al together it took about 15 Hours.
we finished Tuesday
.

My Gramma and I answered some questions in order to wrap up our thoughts of this project.

What was the hardest part?:
Getting the fitting right, and covering the buttons.

What  problems did you have?:
We ripped some fabric on the under skirt.

What would you do different next time?:

We would not do a zipper, instead we would not do the button holes on the back for the lace up.
All in all it was a good project, and it was fun to work together with different ideas bringing together the finished dress.

What was the best part?:
Working together on a project as we only see each other for 2 weeks once a year.

What was the easiest part?:
The hems.

What are some things that you learned from your Gramma?:
I learned what a tailors tack was, also what a bias was, how to cover buttons, how to gather, how to hem, and some other stuff.

Would you do this again?:
Yep, we just wouldn't make it any harder.

Lucy's Rust-Red Dress #3

All finished with the skirt!!!! All together we worked on it for about 7 hours, counting shopping for fabric, laying out paterns, cutting, sewing, and looking over pictures of the dress.

The fabric on the over-skirt (red) was very hard to pin and the fabric on the under-skirt (silver/gray) rips easily. But they are great fabrics and were pretty inexpensive.

$21.00 for the over-skirt ( the fabric was on sale!)
$4.00 for the under-skirt ( the back of an old curtain)
$2.00 for the Zipper

Grand total of $27.00!!!

Here are some pictures!

Apr. 26, 2008 - The narnian of April

19 days left till Prince Caspian!
I will soon be up dating my blog quite a bit about the dress I will be making soon.
Here are two new Prince Caspian Movie surfers.
"You are a mouse......"
"I am a Grown up."
but I think it about time for a.........

NARNIAN OF THE MONTH(S)!!
The Narnian of the month for April is Reepicheep!

The image “http://maryvictrix.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/preview_reepicheep.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Talking Mouse
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Narnia
Major character in: Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Reepicheep, the chief mouse of twelve mice,is the humble servant to Prince Caspian and the most valiant of all the knights in Narnia. He stands three feet tall and wears a red feather behind his ear.  In Prince Caspian, Reepicheep helps to win the second battle of Beruna along with his mice followers. During the battle Reepicheep receives many injuries and his twelve loyal friends take him to Lucy and Aslan. Lucy uses her cordial which she received from Father Christmas in LWW to heal all his wounds, save one. As Reepicheep jumps out of the liter that he is being carried on he realizes that he has lost his tail.

"It becomes you very well, small one," said Aslan. All the same, replied Reepicheep, "if anything could be done...perhaps her majesty?" and here he bowed to Lucy. "But what do you want with a tail?" asked Aslan. "Sir," said the mouse, "I can eat and sleep and die for my King without one. But a tail is the honor and glory of a mouse." " I have sometimes wondered, friend," said Aslan, "whether you do not think too much about your honor."

Here Reepicheep tells Aslan that a very small size has been bestowed upon them and if they did not guard their dignity some would allow very unsuitable pleasantries at their expense.

"Why have your followers all drawn their swords?" said Aslan. "May it please your High Majesty," said the second mouse, whose name was Peepiceek, " we are all waiting to cut off our own tails if our Chief must go without his. We will not bear the shame of wearing an honor which is denied to the High Mouse."

This convinced Aslan to allow Lucy to restore Reepicheep's tail but not for the sake of their dignity but for the love between Reepicheep and his followers and the kindness they showed Aslan long ago on the stone table.  (It was then that mice began to speak)

In the Voyage of the Dawn Treader Edmund and Lucy and to their disgust their cousin Eustace Clarence Scrubb (who almost deserved his name) found themselves in Narnia in the middle of a ship called the Dawn Treader. To Lucy and Edmund's delight they found two old friends, Caspian, and Reepicheep.  After Caspian explains why they are on this voyage, Reepicheep explains why he is on this voyage.

When he was in his cradle, a dryad spoke this verse over him:

“Where sky and water meet,
Where the waves grow sweet,
Doubt not, Reepicheep,
To find all you seek,
There is the utter East.”

Reepicheep doesn't know what this verse means but think it means that he will find Aslan's own country beyond the eastern edge of the sea.

Eustace, who is not at all fond of rodents, especially large ones that talk, is aghast by Reepicheep and professes this out loud. One day as Reepicheep is gazing out to sea, Eustace thinks that it would be funny to swing Reepicheep around by his tail. This of course is not funny whatsoever. Reepicheep gets very angry and challenges Eustace to a duel. (Eustace, of course being a pacifist, refuses) When Eustace is turned into a dragon, despite his beastly attitude towards Reepicheep, he finds that the mouse is one of his closest friends during this time and often found himself listening to the stories that Reepicheep would tell.

At the end of the book, Reepicheep, Lucy, Edmund, and the transformed Eustace, set out in Reepicheep's small boat. As they reach a wall of water, Reepicheep leaves them and goes on alone.

The coracle went more and more quickly and beautifully it rushed up the waves side. For one split second they saw it's shape and Reepicheep's at the very top. Then it vanished, and since that moment no one can truly claim to have seen Reepicheep the mouse. But my belief is that he came safe to Aslan's country and is alive there to this day.

All direct quotes taken from Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis, Harper Collins Publishers.

In the new movie, Prince Caspian by Disney and Walden Media,  the voice of Reepicheep will be played by Eddie Izzard. To here a sample of his voice click Here

Apr. 16, 2008 - random

Hi,

I have lots of things to post so here goes.

First a few  Prince Caspian trailer things (just one more month!)
1 "Where are we?! where do you think we are!?"
2What happens if we die here?
3I don't know what to call this one. :)
4 or this one.
And this super cool Movie Surfers Clip!

I would also like to recommend some great books I have been reading. They are from a series called Dragons in our Midst. I reckon you have heard of them. And yes, they are as good as they say! I just finished reading the third book. Because I could go on talking about them forever and don't want to type that much :) I will send you to one of my favorite blogs, which has great writing tips and book recommendations. Its called The Gatekeeper's Pen and is written by one of my friends. She recently did a series of posts about her favorite books, so although I am sending you only to the fantasy page, I suggest you read all of her posts.

I also just listened to Eragon and Eldest on my dad’s iPod and liked it. If you have seen the movie and that is why you never read the books I would encourage you to read them. The movie compared to the books is like fish *yuck*compared to ice cream.

Some more blog recommendations:

"Lucy's" blog He lives is good for everything from cute videos and movie reviews to great quotes.

My sisters blog (on the side bar) good for Babysitting tips.

Mar. 20, 2008 - 3 new PC trailers

Happy First day of spring!
There is now 3 new TV Spots from Prince Caspian!
Click on the links
The first footage we have seen so far of
Reepicheep and Trufflehunter
new shoots of
Caspian and Miraz
and one more
a new age has begun!

I like seeing the new footage but... (If you don't know the story of Prince Caspian do not read!)

Miraz is killed by Lord Glozelle so what’s up with this!

Ben Barns said that this was Miraz in one of his interviews so unless Caspian is angrily putting his sword away there is going to be some mistakes in this movie. Oh well we will see what’s up with that in 56 days!!

Feb. 7, 2008 - Posters

Good News from Cair Paravel!
The second Prince Caspian poster is out!
 I really like it!!

This is the first one that they showed us

And this is the New one!

This is the Poster from the Lion the Witch and the wardrobe
I think that just by looking at the posters we know that “(we) may find Narnia a more savage place than (we) remember”.
So tell me which one you like the best!

Feb. 4, 2008 - Don't you mean Fenris Ulf?!

Here is something that you may not a about The Chronicles of Narnia books.

In The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe movie we see a wolf named Maugrim,
And the same in the focus on the family radio theater version,
But in the book why do we see a wolf named Fenris Ulf?

Answer: there are Differences between the British and American editions of The Chronicles of Narnia.

There are a few changes between the American and the British editions but this on is the biggest, just so you are aware C.S. Lewis made these changes himself.

 Other changes.
 Lion
In chapter one of the American edition, the animals that Edmund and Susan express interest in are "snakes" and "foxes" rather than the "foxes" and "rabbits" of the British edition.

In chapter thirteen, "the roots of the World Ash Tree" takes the place of "the fire-stones of the Secret Hill".

Voyage
British  ‘Never to bring me back there,’ he said. He pointed astern. They all looked. But they saw only bright blue sea and bright blue sky. The Dark Island and the darkness had vanished forever.

American “Never to ask me, nor to let any other ask me, what I have seen during my years on the Dark Island.”

There are some other differences but they are even less very obvious or important.

When Harper Collins took over publication (1994) they used the British edition for all subsequent editions worldwide.
So if you have a Narnia book older that that it could be an American version.
