Dec. 7, 2007 - Christmas Traditions
Last week we put up our tree. We have a fake tree (allergy issues), so this is quite a process. I grew up in an allergic family, so I don't really know any different. I don't know how difficult or time consuming it is to put a real tree in your house, but an artificial tree is quite the complication, especially if you want it to 'look real'. It requires unloading the tree from it's storage container, sorting the branches into their various sizes, putting the thing together and re-shaping it after a year of being smashed in storage!
But it's fun, and here's our day (it really took all day...with a break for lunch and a nap!)
Here is how the baby started, happy to watch the excitement...

Ofcourse, no matter how careful you are when you pack up the lights the previous year, they are *always* tangled, and there are *always* some that don't work anymore!

The kids play with the nativity set while daddy works with the lights and I work on putting the tree together...

A's turn to 'top the tree' this year...

N hangs the first ornament...Lovely, N!

More ornaments...

And more...

Ooohhh.....aaaahhhhhh.......

A and I move the ornaments up the tree, as the tree becomes very 'bottom heavy' with the younger ones putting everything at their eye level - LOL!!

And then we put our presents under the tree....(well, minus one new little gift...)

All the excitement wore him out!!

I was pooped, too!

Nov. 22, 2007 - Happy Turkey Day!

Whether you're celebrating with food or not (referring to my previous entry):
"Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!
Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the LORD, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His Truth endures to all generations."

Nov. 16, 2007 - What Should You Be When You Grow Up?
| You Should Be a Politician |
Stubborn and opinionated, you can stand your ground... even if it's unpopular. And while you have strong views, you never overwhelm people with your opinions. A true charmer, you subtly influence people into seeing things your way. You do best when you: - Work according to your own rules - Can change the world with what you do You would also be a good lawyer or talk show host. |
LOL - okay, following my friend, BChsMamaof3, I did this blogthing quiz and I had to laugh. Some things in this fortune cookie are true about me. But some things are wrong - I *do* overwhelm people with my opinions, and I am definitely *not* a charmer!! I don't think I'd make a good lawyer because I believe in absolute right and wrong no matter what, rather than stare decisis. ....But I might make a good talk show host....

Nov. 6, 2007 - A little creativity goes a long way.

Here's an idea for a rainy day, or cold weather. We take our sectional and push it together. Usually we pretend it's Noah's Ark. But today, the kiddos decided to take a Little House on the Prairie adventure. The couch is the wagon, the Rody is the horse. Such cuties, and such imaginations!

Nov. 3, 2007 - Baby Gear?!?
In the never-ending world of baby gear, there are not too many things that, after having 5 children, I would say are essential. Strollers, bouncy seats, exer-saucers, play gymns, jumpers, etc, etc, etc. I've heard it said that new parents are on of the easiest marketing targets available. I believe it. Do we have all of those things? Yes...well, most of them. And I do use them, but I do not consider them essential.
There are just two things that I have decided I really couldn't live without. The first is a good sling. And I am a sling-a-holic. I have tried too many to list. I have two favorites: The New Native Baby Carier, which I like best for the toddler age, and the Storchenwiege Baby Sling, pictured below. The Storchenwiege is like a big long scarf of really sturdy woven cotton, there are other brand names of the same thing. It is so versatile, with many different ways to wear the baby, and you can tie it tight and snug, the way a baby is supposed to be 'slung'.

My second 'cannot do without' baby item, is the SwaddleMe Blanket by Kiddopotomus. We recieved this blanket as a gift with this past birth, number five! and I only wish we'd have found it sooner. It is AWESOME! I have always known, and taught, the benefits of swaddling, but my babies grow out of those recieving blankets so quickly that I give up on swaddling after the first couple weeks. (serioulsy, my babies grow fast - G was 16.5 lbs at his 7 1/2 week check up! LOL) Anyway, this blanket has velcro tabs to keep baby snug and secure and is pretty wiggle-out-proof.
It also has a slot in the bottom for the carseat buckle to come through, so they can be swaddled in the carseat! WOW, I'm so impressed with this product, and it's only $10. Can't beat that. We have two, and I swaddle G in it everytime he's ready for a nap or bedtime.

He's such a cutie, isn't he?
