The history of the contact lens
| Have you ever wondered about the history of the contact lens? Even though I've been a contact lens wearer for at least 25 years, I'll admit that I've never really given it much thought ... not until this morning. I'm on round two of dealing with a swollen eyelid and can't put my contacts in. (Have I mentioned how very much I dislike wearing glasses?) I deal with this swelling every year it seems. It's apparently triggered by pollen (there's a lovely green pollen film covering our pond so I know it's prevalent in the air) in combination with cold fronts that come through our area. Each time those two things are present in combination, I end up with my right eyelid a big swollen mess. I went through round one a week ago ... everything was back to normal in a couple of days. Yesterday, as the day progressed, so did the swelling. This morning my eye was worse. Normally hubby would be here, since it's the weekend, and I'd have an extra pair of hands to help around the house. (Have I mentioned that not only do I dislike wearing glasses but I don't function very well wearing them since I do not wear them on a daily basis?) Alas, hubby is on-call for work and actually on a call as I type. I'll keep using hot compresses and hopefully this will all straighten itself out quickly. Anyway, not being able to put in my contacts this morning gave me a newfound appreciation for those who had the vision to bring contact lens to fruition. Visit the link if you have a chance ... it's interesting reading. |
