We won't actually be doing a 50 state study until this coming school year, but as I have already started lesson planning and getting a game plan together I have been seeking out resources.
The first thing hubby and I decided to do was join a Yahoo group geared toward exchanging postcards. Some groups are for homeschoolers only, others are open to anyone. It is our hope that this exchange will help with our geography studies and lend itself well to our 50 state study. Obviously it will take time to collect cards from all 50 states, but I figure since we're starting in January that by the time our school year starts in late August (probably) that we should have a pretty decent amount. We've already made several trades and the cards are starting to show up in our mail. Ds1 has gotten really excited about this project. I am so grateful to a fellow homeschooling mom from one of the monthly activities we attend that mentioned this to me.
I also came across The Fifty Nifty United States over the weekend. I really like the printable crossword and individual state worksheets this site offers. |
21 January 2008 - idea for your study
We have enojoyed The Scrambled States of America Game and given it as a gift many, many times.
It's a game of chance and skill so anyone could win. We play with our non-readers too.
I purchased the game at Wal-mart but haven't seen it there lately...could just have been Christmas rush.
hope this helps!
Blessings from the below zero little farm,
