| I'm looking ahead to next year's studies and really want to add Latin to the mix for ds1. I am not at all familiar with any of the Latin curriculums available, nor am I familiar with Latin. I have heard of Prima Latina so at the curriculum fair I attended this past weekend it was one of the things I wanted to see in person. Both ds1 and I like the look of it, but I didn't make a purchase. Later that evening, I was doing some surfing online and discovered that there are two types of Latin - ecclesiastical and classical! Silly me - I had no idea! I have come to learn that ecclesiastical Latin is what is used by the Catholic church and classical Latin is what is used in colleges and universities. Prima Latina is ecclesiastical Latin. Since I want ds1 to study Latin for educational (college studies) purposes, I decided that Prima Latina is not the way for us to go. So ......... back to square one. I did a bit of research and found Getting Started with Latin: Beginning Latin for Homeschoolers and Self-Taught Students of Any Age by William E. Linney. I am intrigued and it sounds promising based on the reviews on Amazon. |
