Pileated woodpecker and our garden

I'm sharing these pileated woodpecker photos especially for Melissa.  We have a couple of pileated woodpeckers that have visited us every few weeks since the end of December.  I was headed outside to do some yard work last Sunday and came upon our gorgeous visitors in one of our oaks.  Unfortunately, my going back inside the house to get the camera frightened the male away, but I did get a few pics of the female.  I ended up getting too close to her for comfort (her comfort that would be) and she joined the male in another of our oaks hiding amongst the leaves.  They then flew to a pine in our wooded area, but I again was only able to get photos of the female.

Our garden is coming along well so far.  These photos are from last weekend as well.

21 March 2008 - Woodpeckers

We have a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers that come visit our bird feeder about once a week. We have tried many times to get a picture of them but just walking across the living room to get the camera scares them off. The kids love to watch them because when they eat our bird feeder shakes so bad we think it is going to fall over. You are lucky you got such good pictures of them!

Amazing photos! My birds hate my camera. And your garden is incredible. It will be ages before we plant anything yet. I am jealous!

My husband is the gardener is our family: he started some seeds, and they are just peeking up from the soil, about a half inch or so. There is still snow on the ground, so they have time to get bigger before they go outside. I am envious of your tomatoes. :)

Great pictures of the woodpecker :) I can't wait until our tomatoes start to set fruit! We're a long way from that though *grin* We're just getting reading to transplant ours for the first time. LOL.
Have a wonderful Easter!

That is so cool! I am so jealous! Maybe one of these days we'll be able to get a photo of one, but I think maybe our feeders are too close to our house; because they do seem rather easily frightened. I showed my kids your photos, they too were amazed that you got such great ones.

And your garden is looking so nice! We just started some seeds indoors last week. I think we're going to give square foot gardening a try; I do not have very much level land where it's sunny so we have to use our space very efficiently. I plan on posting about our seedlings soon.

Thanks for sharing your GREAT pics!

Neat pics! Is that last tomato misshapen because it's not used to gravity??? *shrug* You knew I had to ask! ;')

My son was so amazed that this is the type of bird you have in your backyard. Another funny difference between our two countries. We have only ever read of Woodpeckers or seen the cartoon, Woody Woodpecker. Did you ever watch that one?
Hope you are all well.
Blessings,
Amanda
