Natural Paths

3 April 2008

We interrupt this regularly scheduled school day...

Ds1 likes to sit on the sofa to do much of his school work so he can goof off look out the window to see if any birds are visiting our pond.  This morning's math lesson was halted when he spotted a great egret and little blue heron.  We observed them for a bit then tried to get some photos.  Lousy timing ruined that for us though.  Our neighbor across the road came out of his driveway about that time in his work truck (which was quite noisy) and they flew away.  I was able to get this one pic......

I was happy to hear and see "our" female pileated woodpecker again this morning while I was tending to the garden.  Since I was watering I didn't have the camera with me, but I found her pecking happily away in one of our sabal palms.  Hubby heard them a few days ago when he was leaving for work.  Hopefully all this recent activity means they are going to hang out with us for a while.

For upated garden pics, check our family blog.

What a wonderful view! We see some big birds here (cranes and such), but they aren't close. I have to go looking for them. I can only imagine how fun it would be to look out the window and see something like THAT!. :'D

I knew that's what they were called. When we lived in St. Thomas we saw one of those in our yard. I had a great time taking the pictures. The name that came to mind was heron but I didn't tell the boys because I wasn't sure. Now i know. It was great visiting your blog. Have a great day!
