Natural Paths

Hand-Me-Downs

I have been trying to encourage ds1 to clear out his room and donate some of his stuff.  He has decided the person who needs his stuff most is ds2 (ummmmmmm ... the point was to get it out of the house, not move it from one bedroom to another!).  I must say ds2 is quite the happy camper.  He is the proud new owner of several stuffed animals (no big cats though - ds1 is not giving those up), a bouncy ball and other assorted odds and ends.  Thankfully we also saved some of ds1's toys from his younger years (there is an almost 7 year age difference between my blessings) and I pulled out another goodie for ds2 this weekend ... Leap's Phonics Pond.

I have such fond memories attached to this particular toy.  It was a key in ds1 learning his alphabet ... so much so that we were shocked when in traffic one day and he started calling out every letter of the alphabet he saw on business/commercial vehicles all around us.  I can still see my little tow-head lugging this around all over the place and now I'm going to see grand memories in the making as my second tow-head follows suit.  I can't believe ours still looks brand new - it held up extremely well!

Isn't it amazing how well-built those Leaps are? Our Leap Pad was fantastic, too. I have some memories of a child sitting and using the Pad, and then I remember the day the child didn't turn it on...just read for himself. It was a happy day.

We have a similar toy, although not Leap Frog. It's funny you mention it: I am also on a quest to weed things out, and that was one thing I thought we could get rid of---but I found myself looking at it fondly, as--like you--there are such good memories associated with it. My older son loved it and learned his letters from that toy; my second son, not so much, but some. I found that I wanted to find someone specific I could give it to, rather than just the generic thrift store. Funny how things can bring back memories, isn't it? I hope your second son enjoys it as much as the first did.

I had one of those too for my ds but his was a Pooh Bear one. I got it at a yard sale. He learned alot from that thing. He really loved it too.

We didn't have too much toy sharing since I had a girl then a boy. Harrison just wasn't too interested in Angelina Ballerina or American Girls. He did like the Barbie Camero that she had though. =)
