• Apr. 18, 2006 - A few more pictures from out outing at Lower Oxford's Place

It was truly a beautiful day! The children played pirates and looked for buried treasure. They they played Beothuk Indians. We dug for clams, threw driftwood back into the water, tried to get snails to come out of their shells, dug holes and made quicksand.

I caught a picture of Jessica climbing on the rocks :-)

Those rocks we find so interesting. They're basically made up of lots of various sized rocks. Almost like they're glued together somehow.

Here's a closer look at the rocks.

I just love the colours of these lichens.

On April 14/06 we went to Lower Oxford's place. The tide was so low we could walk out to an island.(shown in picture below) We had a lot of fun! We also dug up clams, and I even found a starfish!

• Apr. 5, 2006 - Awesome Eagle Cam

We were sent this link from a friend. It's an awesome eagle cam set up in someone's backyard somewhere in British Columbia, Canada. Check it out! This morning, we spent too much time watching momma eagle :-) At one point, she got up and sat on the edge of her nest for a few seconds before flying off (probably needed a stretch!). We saw her two eggs in the nest. How cool is that!

Posted in Outings

My absolutely most favorite place to play is the "Big Rock". I have been playing there almost seven years and i've climbed almost everywhere i can. It's a fun place to play because it's right behind our house.

• Mar. 24, 2006 - Purple Finches

Posted in Birding

This is a Puple finch male. It's hard to get a good picture of him. He's not so brave as Mrs. Purple Finch. He will often sit on the clothesline and just watch the other birds. We have seen Redpolls take sunflower seeds from the purple finch's beak!

This is the bigger one that comes to our patio.

This is a picture of a female Purple finch (center)

She looks a lot like a Song Sparrow, the only difference is that she has a forked tail and is a bit different around her eyes. She is obviously different than Mr Purple Finch. She doesn't have any of the red colouring.

• Mar. 23, 2006 - Welcome to our nature journal!

Posted in Birding

We are currently studying Jeannie Fulbright's Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day. We are so enjoying it! We've been trying to get good pictures of the birds that visit our feeder. Here are some photos that we took a couple of weeks ago. Every morning now, we get between 50-100 Redpolls on our back deck. Throw in a few other species and it makes for some awesome bird watching!

This is a nice close-up of the little guys. The males have a red breast/belly.

They even eat out of our hands! They are so brave.

Okay, that's probably enough for right now. I'll be adding more photos over the next few days.
