When I agreed to start this blog, I immediately began thinking of all the things we like to do as a family. One of our favorite family activities is to make short car trips to nearby attractions. If we can get there in four hours, we have probably been there. The first things that came to mind are all the little towns and attractions which pepper the border of our state: Sioux Falls, Elkhorn, Des Moines, Creston, St. Joseph, Kansas City. The problem is, none of them are in Nebraska. It took me a bit to think of anything of interest here in Nebraska.
That is NOT because there is nothing of interest in Nebraska. But somehow, it seems, I am rogrammed to look for satisfaction outside of my home. I overlook the potential in my own backyard and peer across the way. It is the same in my walk with Christ. I tend to walk the boundary of the teritory, always longing for something on the other side. Sometimes I am looking across the border with the world, desiring things that are not of Christ while ignoring the superior pleasures which my walk with Christ produces. Other times, I am looking at other Christians who seem to have all together more interesting lives than me. Exciting testimonies, high-impact ministries.
But God has given me this little spot in the world to live in. I have everything I need to live as God would have ME live. I forget sometimes that God placed me here, outside Lincoln, NE as a homeschooling mother of three. I get sidetracked by my neighbor's crops and get anxious about sowing my own little field. The problem is, I need to more readily seek out Christ and how to be closer to Him rather than walking along the boundaries He has set for me, wondering what life would be like if I just stepped across the border for a little while.
As always, if you are from Nebraska, please leave a comment or drop me an email so we can begin to get connected! If you know of any resources you think would be helpful to Nebraskans or people moving here, let me know and I'll add it to my sidebar.
