Two funerals this week. Two lives, very different. One young, one old. One woman, one man. One Catholic service, one Assembly of God service. Very different styles of worship and remembrance. One person I knew. One person was known to me by name only.
Both lived for others; both brought joy; both denied self; both set amazing examples; both present with the Lord. What lessons. I don't think I'll digest them fully for a long time. I don't think I should. I think I should keep them pinned on the bulletin board in my heart so that I can return again and again to the lessons they left for me. Love others, live a life that people recognize you are Christian; you are content; you will help; you will give of yourself; you will love unconditionally; you will be patient, you will be kind...
I heard a talk once where the speaker suggested you recite I Corinithians 13 but, place your own name in place of the word "love". For instance, "Sadie is patient; Sadie is kind;" Talk about recognizing your weak spots! It is a good practice for self examination, that's for sure.
