I am reading Little Town on the Prairie to DD#2, age 8.  It was so sweet to see her first interest in romance as we read about Almanzo Wilder coming to give Laura a ride in his buggy to school.  Her eyes lit up and she smiled a big smile.  It did my heart good since up til now she has been more interested in Capt. Jack Sparrow!  It was so odd.  We've only let them see the first Pirates of Car. movie and even then they close their eyes through all the scarey stuff, but from the first she's loved Capt. Jack.  I told DH, that penchant for the bad guy might come back to haunt us! 

Her other influences in this area have been Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley, Mr. Knightley, Edward Ferrars, Col. Brandon and of course, the evil Mr. Wickham!!  I thought we were keeping things pretty clear.  She does also love Frederick from Pirates of Penzance, so winningly played by Rex Smith in Central Park.  (Although we all love the Pirate King!)  So, less of Capt. Sparrow methinks.  Bring on Almanzo.

How I wish I could read a more modern interview with Laura Ingalls Wilder, or have on with her myself.  I always wish to know more about her life.
