Nice hot weather makes for short fusses lately. When my four year old starts whining I know he's been outside long enough. Time for a popsicle and shade. I suppose this is what makes schooling year round better for us. The kids can play out till it's to hot, then come in cool off and learn for a while, then go back out when it cools back down. This doesn't give them the opportunity to say "We are bored" LOL I love being able to stop schooling when the fall arrives for a couple weeks when you can ride the horses and mules, take a leisurely wagon ride, picnic, and just really enjoy ourselves. Right now we are going through our curriculum, weeding out what we didn't like, and planning for our new year. I have a few lap books I would like to buy from Hands Of A Child still, and a few supplies I still need to pick up, I could about kick myself, I went and bought $80. worth of school supplies, and should have waited till tax free Aug. 1-3 to do it!!!! Shucks that could of bought more supplies ;-). |

Our 4'th of July was great! I woke up early, made a great breakfast, baked our bread for the day and finished our dinner prep. Made it outside to feed the animals at a decent time, and went on a mule ride before the rains came. Dinner was great! It helps to make as much as possible the day before. I was actually able to enjoy myself this year. Rain, rain, rain, we were so glad to see it come. We have lost at least 3/4 of our garden already. I pray for more rain over the next couple days or we will loose everything. The kids enjoyed a book on our founding fathers, the star spangled banner, and the 4'th. They will miss fireworks this year, but I haven't heard one complaint about it yet.;-)They are tickled to death to have watermelon and ice cream. I'll post links to pictures soon....as soon as photo bucket lets me.

We have been home educating our four children for 18 years now, our oldest daughter is 25, married and doing well. We have three left at home, a 14 yo dd, 7 yo ds, and 4 yo ds. We live on a farm, with many critters. A few mules, horse, donkey, chickens, duck, rabbit and all the wild ones, including snakes, coyotes, and way to many fire ants. We generally use different methods of education. We love A Beka, and use it, but supplement with lap books, we love Hands Of A Child, CurrClick, echobrain, and others, lap books, and unit studies are a rave here. We garden, bake, can, from our garden. Ride, drive, and show our mules. Lacey is our newest mule, she will soon be a model horse, for the Peter Stone company, they will feature her on I'll try to post pictures from around the farm, and keep our Kitchen nice, warm and inviting. |
