I am reading through Managers of Their Homes and trying to come up with House Rules. I have been struggling with this for a long time. We tried 21 Rules of this House and since the rules all said HIM, or referred to a male in some way our oldest son felt persecuted. So today I got a message from Alpha Omega with an interview with Michelle Duggar (HS mom of 18 now) and these are their Guidelines. I immediately realized this is what I have been trying to come up with for MONTHS! BUT (there is always a but isn't there) I would like a scripture to go with each of them...any suggestions? I am drawing a blank on most, just no time to think today. I also moved her "Amendment" up top, because it sums up the spirit I want conveyed in myself, our children and our home.
House Guidelines:
J.O.Y. Make serving your family a priority.
Put Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last.
-
Always use soft words, even when you don't feel well.
A soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:1-3
-
Always display kind actions, even if you have been mistreated.
-
Show joyful attitudes, even when no one is looking.
-
Have sincere motives with no thought of self-gain.
-
Think pure thoughts.
" casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,"
-
Always give a good report of others. Never tale-bear unless physical harm will come to someone. Use Matthew 18.
-
Never raise a hand to hit.
-
Never raise a foot to kick.
-
Never raise an object to throw.
-
Never raise a voice to yell.
-
Never raise an eye to scowl.
-
Use one toy/activity at a time.
-
Never let the sun go down on your wrath. (Don't go to bed angry or guilty)
“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,"
