Monday, July 7, 2008 - Start Making Christmas Gifts NOW
|
This year our focus is on getting out of debt (ok, it will take several years but this year we are really driving at it full force) and with that goal in mind I began thinking about Christmas. We have quite a bit of family. Three sets of grandparents to be exact. So in the past we have gone and had pictures done (upwards of $250.00) and made things. By far the gifts most loved are the ones the kids make. But even I know that some handmade knick knacks are kept more for guilt than for true love of the item. So what are we planning this year?
Bath Soap - we have been collecting items (molds, scent oils, colors, base etc.) with 40 or 50% off coupons from local craft chains and even the thrift store to make soap this year. I have LOADS of ideas for this one!
Flower Pressed Candles - we will purchase inexpensive candles from the Dollar Store and make then gorgeous with pressed flowers from the garden.
Another idea is to buy juice glasses from the thrift store and make tissue paper mosaics on them using modge podge. Then we use them as candle holders.
There are lots of web sites that tell you how to do these things. Do you have other inexpensive gift making ideas? Comment Me and share them! |

| Hello! Thanks for stopping by. I love your new look!!!! Amen to saving money and time ( who wants to waste all the time trying to park and navagate holiday rush). Grandparents are just as happy with a good photo you yourself took , or an album of the year. And homemade gets all the oohs and awes and hugs. We print out a photo page of two for the grandparents to add to a photo book we gave them. The kids decorated the book. So each year they get a page on the major holidays. Have fun planning and crafting! Blessings |

Wow! I haven't been here is a little while, it looks wonderful!
For Gifts, how about sewing herbal pillows? They are great for aromatherapy! We stuff them and add our own organic herbs ( you can use whole cloves) and then decorate the pillows with pretty odds and ends I have left over from other projects. This is a great way to use up scrap fabric. We make them small so someone can just put them on their bed or use them as a sachet.
These are fun and good sewing practice for your beginning seamstress too.
God Bless, MeritK |
