Tuesday, October 7, 2008 - Tips for Flu Season

Posted in Health Tips

There will be a LOT more parents homeschooling if we get any kind of flu epidemic--since quarantine is the most effective prevention. Prepare now tohelp others that you know get started & succeed in home education. (Makeup packets to give away with pertinent info that you think is helpful.)

HOME TREATMENTS & REMEDIES  (repeated from last year)
1) at the first sign of the flu, knock it out with OSCILLOCOCCINUM,a sub-lingual homeopathic remedy that is available in most stores.
2) also get some SAMBUCOL (elderberry extract) or elderberry tea
3) get NEW TOOTHBRUSHES or use HYDROGEN PEROXIDE to soak theold ones (although boiling water is effective, too)
4) GOLDENSEAL ROOT TEA (tastes horrible--but if used regularly for about 2 weeks, it will drain out excess phlegm--get Kleenex, too)
5) SOUP - after you cook chicken or turkey, remove the bones and boil them with herbs, celery, onions, etc... to make soup stock (a phlegm remedy). Then use the broth for soup recipes (it freezes well, too). Add a cut, dried whole cayenne pepper (antibiotic, antiviral) to the brew--as much as you like.  Oregano is also anti-viral.
6) LEMONS - warm some lemon juice in a saucepan (don't 'nuke' any foods you intend to eat), add a little honey and gargle with it before slowly swallowing it. Don't drink or eat anything for awhile afterwards--give it time to work. If you can, eat the washed peeling--it'll contain quercetin and hesperidin bioflavonoids. This is better than any store-bought vitamin.
7) HORSERADISH & HOT MUSTARD - these open up the sinuses
8) use HANDI-WIPES - throw away dish rags--they harbor strep germs

9) buy EMER'GEN-C packets (30 to a box--the boxes cost anywhere from $9 to $15) These are delicious 1000 mg vitamin C fizzy drink packets that are better than any soft drink and cost about 30 cents each.
Don't worry about drinking too many (you'll just get a good 'cleaning out' when you've had enough--easier than drinking castor oil!).
10) build up your metabolism by doing hard physical labor (sweat!)

11) eat raw foods--especially apples & oranges right now--(they're in season) and drink lots of good water to nourish your cells

12) DON'T eat or drink anything with sugar or sugar substitutes in it--this LOWERS your immunity substantially and invites sickness!
13) NOURISH your thyroid http://www.helpmythyroid.com/iodine.htm for energy. Always buy food-source vitamins from companies that have integrity--like Shaklee or Juice-Plus--NEVER take a synthetic chemical soup

14) dress for the weather - boots, gloves, hats, hand-warmers (keep extra jackets--and even comforters--in the car) DON'T get chilled!
15) dry oregano or sage on your A/C vents or get some good quality melaleuca or lemon oil--leave the bottle open to purify indoor air

16) use cut-up FRESH GARLIC in spaghetti & chili sauces....

WARNING: FluMist (live, contagious flu virus) is being sprayed up the noses of public school employees & students at an alarming rate this fall--I suspect all those 'carriers' of the live virus will start a mild
epidemic!
