Hey everyone! Well turkey season is open and I plan on getting a big one this year. A few years back durring my first turkey season,I got 2 Jakes. A Jake is a teenage boy when reffering to the turkey race. :P Anywhoo all I've shot has been Jakes,so this year I plan on waiting for the big one. A mature adult male is called a Tom. I plan on getting a Tom or 2 this year.
Now if by any chance there are "anti-hunting" people reading this...I suggest that you not read any further, and if you do please don't have any thoughts of malice of vengeance against me. I'm a hunter and this is a hunting story. haha. With a hint of comedy. LoL! :)
Well we went for a drive looking for BLM land to hunt on and I did a little hiking. We originaly went to set up and hunt, but we left to late in morning and dad decided to just do some scouting/hunting instead. So anyways we were driving down this country road when we see these 4 jakes off the road a little ways. The only bad thing was that they were right on the private side af a private property fence. So what did we do? Well we pulled off the road and dad went and walked over to a tree and sat down with his shotgun on the ground beside him. Why wasn't he holding it ready? I have no clue. Lol. Well I started to call them in with my slate call and they came gobbling right over that private property fence, heading towards dad. Well Since dad didn't have his gun ready,he had to pick it up and turn sideways to get a shot at one. BANG!! BANG!! The turkeys start running away. All 4 of them. Lol.
Well dad came walking back to the truck shaking his head. Austin and I says it just like this we says..Where's the turkey dad!? Lol. He then proceeded to tell us that he hit both shots, two different turkeys. After telling us that and us looking at him like "uhhhh well then where's the turkeys at?",he went off walking up into the woods looking for them. Austin and I just wait in the truck expecting him to come back with atleast one dead turkey. He comes back about 2 minutes later empty-handed smiling and saying that he got one. Hmmmm....Austin and I are STILL wondering...Where's the turkey!? Haha! He said that it was up in this little clearing just standing there and that he was too scared to get close to it. I was like WHAT? So All three of us go walking off to meet this wounded "scary" turkey.
Well sure enough there it was just standing all puffed up in this little clearing. So us three stooges surround this thing and I get right up to litteraly 2 feet away from this big ol bird with a big rock in my hand. Okay the rest of this story might get a little graphic for those of you who have weak stomaches. haha! Just kidding. Well I chuck this rock at the turkey and miss...from 2 feet away. Pitifull. :P Lol. Now the turkey is not just standing around anymore. He wants to get away. Dad picks the rock up and hits it in the chest but it doesn't even phase it. As soon as dad turns around to get a stick to use as a 1-iron on this thing,it takes off running. This is where it gets good. LoL!
Well I wasn't abaout to let this thing get away so Austin and I are right on his tail. We chase this turkey through poison oak, brush and trees. I finaly catch up to it and give it the boot of it's life! I kicked that thing so hard it bounced about 10 feet away. It just lands on it's feet and keeps running. I could hear Austin yelling behind me..."Jump on it!". Haha. We're both in hot pursuit of this dumb turkey. I caught up to it again but this time...I dove at it football style at tackle it to the ground. I then look down at my hands and find only feathers, and ol Jake is still running with Austin right on his tail! Well FINALY we had him cornered and he had no choice but to come at me. He was running at me and I reached out and wrapped both my hands around his neck. Sorry if this IS a little graphic, but it's exactly what happened. haha. Well then what does he do,he starts flailing his feel at me trying to give me a good spur. I picked that thing up and slammed him to the ground and stepped on his neck to suffocate him the "professional" way. So picture this...I'm sitting on one knee on this turkey holding his feet with one hand, and keeping one foot one his neck...and I'm being lifted up and down by this thing's wings! He was strong!
Well we finaly stopped his suffering and brang him back to the truck. Our next problem was...who's turkey was it anyways?? Haha! We figured it was dad's cuz he shot it in the first place. Lol. Well sorry if that was too "graphic" for anybody, but just think of this...now we have meat in the freezer and story to tell for a loooong time. Haha! It was a major video camera moment. Ofcoarse we didn't have one at the time. Lol.

Apr. 7, 2009 - Good story
I didn't know turkey season opened so early. You must have not told Kolton this story huh? It probably grossed him out too much.
I'm suprised Austin was brave enough to chase a turkey! LOL. I would think he would be running from it.
Turkeys wings are powerful! Turkey lurky has beat me in the face with her wings and it isn't the greatest feeling in the world.
See you tonight?
Haha! I'll say they're stong! They're STRONG!!! Lol. I'm stronger though. :P haha. Well I'm not sure why I didn't tackle it when I was that close...adrenaline kicked in. haha. Made me not think strait maybe? Lol :)
