The Mommy and Daddy Guide to Kindergarten

Posted in Mother Culture

I saw this book at the library on 9/14/06 and thought it looked interesting so I checked it out.  I ruffled through it today looking at the chapters that pertained to our family.  I look in the Daily Schedules chapter and saw on page 61 that during the full day program for grade level K here in MO they have a "special class" once a week called counseling.  My question is just what are they counseling 5 year olds on?  That seems absurd to me.  I would think that if a child did need counseling it should be up to the parents to decide that, not a mandetory everyone must take part of the week.

In the chapter on homeschooling she says the actual and correct number of homeschoolers in our country can not be known because they are not all required to register since some states allow them the freedom to not have to.  She made this sound like it was a bad idea.  I for one and extremely thankful that registration is not required in my state.

The author went on to say in that chapter that many homeschoolers start sending their kids to schools in jr/sr high for better experiences.  ....Yeah I had that reaction too, "Say what?"

So that is the second book that has caught my eye as seeming to be homeschool friendly, but is not.

That so many will pick up that book and think that "this is the right way" to homeschool.

And I totally agree with you -- why would I want to send them into the lions' den at the point where all those hormones are gushing around? Jr.High esp. is a dangerous time to send our children into an institutional setting! Sr. High can depend on the child and I've heard some good things from those who sent theirs. But one would have to know that 1) my child is not a follower and 2) he was a very strong believer in Jesus, willing to stand up for what he believes. My son (now 17) has never expressed interest or desire and that's fine by me! We only have 2 more years in our hs'ing journey!

10.6.2006 - Counseling

Posted by Another homeschool mom
I was a substitute teacher for a while and from what I have seen the counseling was little programs teaching kids not to take drugs and how to tell an adult if they see them, good touch /bad touch, stuff like that. It was really basic safety issues from what I saw. Hope this gives a little insight.

even worse...um I would like to tell my 5 year old those things at my discretion not because some people who don't really care about my child in the face of so many to care for. After all in CA they want to tell 5 year olds about "alternative lifestyles" um no...5 year olds don't need to know boy/girl or any other variation, unless the parents want to share that themselves.
Thanks for being honest and confirming for me that I am doing the right thing by not letting my child be laid hold of in an institutional setting.
I think the D.A.R.E program is a joke, it was taught by officers that told us not to smoke and drink (and yes not to use other drugs) but they would be in the parking lot smoking and I know lots of cops who drink...hypocrites.
Also I think the way they present it, gets the thought in 5th graders heads and then they can't wait to be old enough to try and buy cigs/liquor at the gas stations.

About Me

Charlotte Mason style Home Education Journey with One Dear Son who is praying to be a big brother and soon!

"He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD."-Psalm 113:9

"And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children." Isaiah 54:13

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." --III John verse 4

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ---Proverbs 4:7

And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD. --I Samuel 2:21

Praise be to YHVH who is weekly bringing those who hunger and thirst for the whole WORD, not just what the church says is important....did you know the first century and then some Believers knew that accepting the Messiah meant being grafted in to the Hebrew faith? They didn't want to be called gentiles. Paul was always trying to show the physical and non-physical Jews that they were all Jews spiritually. He many times said the law is not void and I know those of you out there who say you are saved live by the 10 commandments and of course the summary of Messiah's own words to love YHVH and then our neighbor....both just ways of summing up all of Torah which really just expounds on the TEN. It wasn't until those in authority started saying any caught Judaizing will be put to death that we stopped observing the true Sabbath and stopped keeping the Feasts and started saying things like the NLT says in Ephesians 2:15 that the Jewish law/system has been done away with...that's misleading. The only thing done away with was the animal sacrifice needed to cover sins. Yeshua doesn't just cover them, HE forgives them. What a truly AWESOME YHVH we serve!!! I pray everyone's ears and eyes would be opened to desire to know and seek out the whole TRUTH and not just blindly follow church leaders.

Praise Report:

thankful to have a DH and a DS. my guys!!

Back when I watched my cousins 4th child- Roger - I didn't think I was all that nice to him. But he's seen my and DS's picture at Nanna's and he says "that boy would not share his toys and his mommy told him that is not nice. I like his mommy she was very nice to me"

Prayer:

Unsaved loved ones to find/or to turn back to Yeshua. For Yeshua to reveal to them the truth of Hebrew Roots so we can be in one accord. See I Corinthians 1:10

and if it's not too much to ask...I've had to endure hearing about several pregnancy announcements and birth announcements recently. I feel like I am dying inside. The pain is enormous. I really just want more children and HIS Word says they are the best type of physical blessing. I am not asking for riches or material things. I know all HE has to do is think/speak my body into being a "baby making machine" and it would be done. Praying for a miracle.
