Checking into adoption....SCARED

Posted in TTC_2 Journey

***update as of 4-13-07***

So I just emailed a social worker and she said it is rare that a social worker speaks to a child alone unless they are a teenager who has shown they don't really want to share their home with another person.  She also said she would never force a shy child to speak to her alone and she doesn't understand why a homeschool organization is telling parents not to let them into the home nor to speak to the children....

She wants our address and phone number to get the process started...should I give it out?  Will she show up on my doorstep and try to prove me an unfit parent because I homeschool - and since it is only Year 0 (kindergarten) I am not forcing my son to memorize a ton of stuff ...we do basic phonics and lots of read a louds and if he shows interest maybe some writing of letters or numbers but again only if he shows interest. We mostly play to learn or play outside.

Scared....paranoid?  maybe both.

***update****

Based on a recommendation at homeschoolblogger  to try a christian agency...I contacted Bethany and they only do infant adoptions and for people with a child already we could expect a 3+ year wait and can't even get on a waiting list for another few months as the program is not taking any more applicants at this time.  They are not able to help in the adoption of a child cleared thru the state for adoption.

SO I contacted a home I saw in a city nearby and she has invited us to an info meeting and classes to be licenses to foster/adopt start July 10th.

The only concern now with the christian ones is - both spouses attend different churches...  I explained I need spiritual meat but hubby is still a milk fed person.  She liked that answer.

So now it's go with the christian one and wait to get thru the process or the state one and get the process started right away.

state - http://www.foster-adopt.org/default.asp?action=article&ID=64

christian - http://www.mbch.org/Services/ServicesAdoption.asp

DH will be home in a few hours...will let you know what he says.

In my state, we are not required to keep homeschool records until the age of 7 which is the compulsory age to prove schooling if requested politely.  so at this age of 5, it's not even required my son be doing any schooling at all. - phew-

oh and DH said as long as he passes his upcoming railroad test and finds out whether or not he gets laid off or get s job right way -as that determines if we even stay in this state- he is ok with adopting a child already cleared by the court in the state.  -YAY!!

We've had two homestudies done for adoptions and they went fine. When the HSLDA says not to let a social worker in the house, they are really talking about if an accusation was made. In the case of adoption homestudies, there is just no way around it. Because we homeschool and because we spank our children, we chose to go with a Christian adoption agency for the homestudy. This helped to relax us a bit because we knew they'd encounter those "issues" frequently. As for kids talking to social workers alone, they usually just "make conversation." They want to make sure that the child is "well adjusted." They most likely will NOT quiz your kids on their schoolwork. I think that people work themselves up over homestudies. It's not nearly as bad as one might think. If you're truly concerned, talk to a Christian agency or talk to people who have used this agency before. That will put your mind at ease! :) Lisa Metzger carolinametzgers@earthlink.net

wow..... hadn't checked your blog in awhile! so you guys are looking into adoption! I'll be praying! My hormone test results are due in on Monday - who knows, depending on what they say I might want to start investigating adoption too, though the process really scares me.

Hi

I have been reading your blog for awhile and I felt that I needed to post to this entry. My dh and I have always known we would adopt and we were scared. We finally (after 9 yrs) decided that the Lord wanted us to go for it now. So, in April we started our homestudy process. We are looking to adopt from our State right now because they have so many legally free children who need homes...(not babies, though, mostly older kids 5 & up unless they are in a sibling group). We are still waiting on our approval before we can get info on children. Anyway, I wanted to encourage you somehow...to let you know that the Lord will walk you through everything that is His will. Good luck with the adoption!!!! You will be in my prayers.
Blessings,
Vania

I meant to tell you that we had no problems with our homestudy as far as homeschooling goes. We went through our county DFCS and the teachers there spank their kids but they basically said you just can't let them see you do it. And they never asked to see my dc schoolwork or anything like that. They also, when they did talk to my children (8,5,3) it was "small talk".. We were very scared of the process and honestly that is why it took us so long to take that step but so far it hasn't been as bad as we thought it would be. They do get very invasive as far as backgrounds, medical history, abuse of any kind history etc, but we had nothing to hide, so we try to leave it to the Lord. Sorry for the second comment, I meant to put this in the first one, but since it is 1am and I really should be in bed, I couldn't remember what I wanted to say. I hope this helps and hasn't deterred you any!!!!

About Me

Charlotte Mason style Home Education Journey with One Dear Son who is praying to be a big brother and soon!

"He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD."-Psalm 113:9

"And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children." Isaiah 54:13

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." --III John verse 4

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ---Proverbs 4:7

And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD. --I Samuel 2:21

Praise be to YHVH who is weekly bringing those who hunger and thirst for the whole WORD, not just what the church says is important....did you know the first century and then some Believers knew that accepting the Messiah meant being grafted in to the Hebrew faith? They didn't want to be called gentiles. Paul was always trying to show the physical and non-physical Jews that they were all Jews spiritually. He many times said the law is not void and I know those of you out there who say you are saved live by the 10 commandments and of course the summary of Messiah's own words to love YHVH and then our neighbor....both just ways of summing up all of Torah which really just expounds on the TEN. It wasn't until those in authority started saying any caught Judaizing will be put to death that we stopped observing the true Sabbath and stopped keeping the Feasts and started saying things like the NLT says in Ephesians 2:15 that the Jewish law/system has been done away with...that's misleading. The only thing done away with was the animal sacrifice needed to cover sins. Yeshua doesn't just cover them, HE forgives them. What a truly AWESOME YHVH we serve!!! I pray everyone's ears and eyes would be opened to desire to know and seek out the whole TRUTH and not just blindly follow church leaders.

Praise Report:

thankful to have a DH and a DS. my guys!!

Back when I watched my cousins 4th child- Roger - I didn't think I was all that nice to him. But he's seen my and DS's picture at Nanna's and he says "that boy would not share his toys and his mommy told him that is not nice. I like his mommy she was very nice to me"

that I am able to do some good in my very humble part time job. The gal whose work gets checked against mine has been able to balance and match exact totals every day and she no longers gets in trouble for unbalanced checks nor gets frustrated for not being able to find the figure that is not lining up.

Prayer:

Ian born 3.12.08 he's up to 4.9 pounds now. there were 2 holes in his heart and one has closed and they are optimistic the other will as well. He does have an annurism on his aorta that the docs are saying requires surgery but now they want him to get to 10 pounds. He has had to have a blood transfusion as well. So keep lifting this baby boy up. His parents know it's only because of the L-RD he's being sustained. Thank you YHVH for taking care of this little one.

DH to turn back to Yeshua. For Yeshua to reveal to him the truth of Hebrew Roots so we can be one and have a blessed marriage.

My great aunt ((70yrs young)) had a heart piece put it 4/28 or 4/29 and she got ill shortly after and they are concerned she may reject the heart piece . Her grown children are too busy to look after her and make sure she gets to/from the hospital and my mom is doing a lot of driving these days between her aunt and

My Nanna ((aka my mom's mom)) who recently broke her other hip and the docs are saying she has a spot on her lung ((NO she was not a smoker, her late husband was and did die from lung cancer)). My Nanna is 74.

my Grandma's ((Nanna)) friend is getting chemo for lung cancer ((and no she never smoked so stop stereo-typing/assuming/judging)) and she's in her 80's, she's prepared to meet YHVH and we know either way HE can heal her. Just comfort and peace and strength to endure whatever HE calls her to.

My mom is taking all these ladies to their various doctor appointments and treatments. One lives in our metro and the others live b/w 2-4 hours from here. My mom needs strength as she is so kind to be doing all of this. My mom says docs have a cynical side and if a patient is over 65 they view them as expendable so they are not as quick to help them. She may be right and/or doctors are just overworked. Either way all these ladies not getting the proper respect and care they need is making my mom angry. ((rightly so I would think))

and if it's not too much to ask...I've had to endure hearing about several pregnancy announcements and birth announcements recently. I feel like I am dying inside. The pain is enormous. I really just want more children and HIS Word says they are the best type of physical blessing. I am not asking for riches or material things. I know all HE has to do is think/speak my body into being a "baby making machine" and it would be done. Praying for a miracle.
