Reason for the season...

Posted in A Lesson...

Before I start writing, I want to apoligize for not posting more often. I have been busy with home school and a new sibling, so please don't be mad with me :-)

I don't know about you, but CHRISTmas is my favorite time of year. The lights, the songs, the weather - and let's not forget the food - always make me feel thankful for what I have.

Some people get really busy this time of year and so caught up in the stuff that doesn't matter that they forget what the season is really about. They need to remember that this time is a time to thank God for what He has done for us.

And there is the opposite - they become like Mr. Scrooge, thinking CHRISTmas is just a waste of time or a way to waste money. They are the ones who need our help the most. They need to learn the reason for the season.

How do we as Christian women share the reason for our joy to others who don't know about Him? In a world that doesn't allow freedom of religion and speech together in a public place, it can be very hard.

Try making cookies for a neighbor and put a piece of paper in with the CHRISTmas story on it. Or you can sing Christian CHRISTmas carols at a local nursing home and end by asking if the mind if you read the CHRISTmas story. If you play a instrment, go busking and play CHRISTmas hymns while someone else tells the Christmas story (busking is completly legal if you stay off of private property-it falls under freedom of speech). If you are friends with a non-christian, invite them to an advent service or the CHRISTmas pagent at your church. If you think about it, there are several ways you can make a difference. One thing to remember though is that "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17) If someone doesn't hear the word, faith can't happen without divine intervention. So remember whatever you do, back it up with Bible!

Katherine Von Bora Luther

Katherine Von Bora
Born: January 29, 1499
Married: June 13, 1525
Died: December 20, 1552

Katherine was born in Lippendorf, Germany on January 29, 1499 to Anne Von Bora and Hans Von Bora. When Katherine's mother died when she was five, her father remarried and then placed her into a convent. She took her vows at age 16. Several years later, she grew discontented with her life at the convent. She heard about Martin Luther and the reform he was bringing about and she contacted him about escaping from the convent. One night, she and several other nuns escaped in a wagon that Martin had sent.

The escaped nuns were then either placed into homes or married. Katherine tried to get married several times, but the marriage always fell through. Finally, Katherine told Luther that she would only marry either him, or his friend Nikolaus von Amsdorf. Luther married Katherine on June 13, 1525.

After they married, they took up residence in the "Black Cloister", that was given to them as a wedding present. In the next several years, Katherine and Martin beget many children and took in several orphans. Katherine also breed and sold cattle, ran a brewery, and in times of widespread illness, ran a hospital. Martin called her the "Morning star of Wittenburg" after her habit of rising at 3 am in the morning.

When Martin died in 1546 after 21 years of marriage, Katherine was left in difficult financial straits without Martin's salary as a pastor and professor. When the Schmalkaldic War broke out she was forced to move to Magdeburg. When she returned, she was forced to move again when another war broke out. When she was finally able to return, she returned to find her home laid waste and torn apart. Thanks to the generosity of a friend, she was able to remain in Wittenburg in a different building. She remained there untill 1552, when the Black Plague and a famine forced her to leave again.

While she was fleeing to Torgau, she was involved in an accident right outside of the city gates. She was thrown from the cart and seriously injured. The Lord called her home three months later on December 20, 1552. It is reported that she said on her deathbed, "I will stick to Christ as a burr [sticks] to cloth."

Katherine was a loving wife and mother, and she definitely was a woman of noble character.

A Lesson in...

Posted in A Lesson...

Courting.

Ever heard of courting? It is not some type of flooring :-) In fact, it's a safer way to date. With the conventional way of dating, you go out, get attached, go too far, then you break up, leaving you heartbroken and scarred. That's why I say courting is safer. With courtship, your parents are involved so you have their approval and you don't go out by yourselves so there is no chance of going too far.

Basically, courtship is in preparation for marriage. Instead of dating just for fun, you court with the intention of only giving your heart if he/she is never going to break it. Face it, dating is just preparation for divorce. New boyfriend/girlfriend every month... It's just not worth giving yourself those scars.

Here is a breakdown of courtship (If you're a guy, this is what you should do):

A. First, the guy asks the dad for permission to court you (even if you date, this is a good step).
1. Dad interviews him and says no or
2. Dad interviews him and says yes.

B. You start courting. You learn more about him/her.
1. You and your parents still think he/she is a good match, so you go on to C.
2. Find out he is the worse person in the world and have your dad stop the process.

C. When the boy thinks he is ready, he pops the question (I could have wrote something else, but I just like that saying :-).
1. Yeah! You are engaged. You keep learning about each other in between planning the wedding.
2. There shouldn't be a 2 at this time, but if there is it's 2. The girl is not ready. Either stop the process, or keep courting until she is.

D. Get married!!!!

If you want to learn more, like how to court, etc. read I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris, Boy Meets Girl by Joshua Harris, When God Writes Your Love Story by Eric and Leslie Ludy, and What He Must Be..If He Wants To Marry My Daughter by Voddie Baucham.

Ever wonder what in the world courting is? It's not some type of flooring:-) If you have a question about faith, modesty, hopechests, God, creation, evolution, purity, dating vs. courting, etc, or if you want to know what movies, music, or books I recommend, or anything else, I'd love to answer your questions. Proverbs 31:18

Posted in Biblical Verses

She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp goes does not go out at night. (Proverbs 31:18, NIV)

Her lamp does not go out at night doesn't mean literally, it means that she has enough oil to make it through any trouble. It's hard to be ready for anything though, isn't it? My parents have a savings account that is for emergencies only. Unfortunetly, things happen and that account gets used, and they have to rebuild it. My parents had to use it when our van broke down in the middle of nowhere. My parents had to use it when I twisted my ankle. My parents had to use it recently when we had multiple visits to the hospital. In our world, there are a million different things that could happen.

Cancer, Heart Disease, car accidents, plane accidents, drowning , drive-by shootings, abuse, rapings, etc. The world is so sinful that just by stepping out of your house could hurt you. How do you be prepared for that?

First, don't worry. God says, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" You can't go around wearing bullet-proof vests all the time. God said that the world would come to this. Remember?

" Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,'[b] spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time." Matthew 24.

It's going to get much worse.

Second, trust in God! We know that we are only visiting this place (not that I would have chosen here :-) We know that on the other side, there will be no pain, sorrow, worry, or death. All we need to do is believe in God!

Third and last, saving money is a very good thing. In fact, I have a savings account. But if you let gaining more money become a god in your life, or you don't trust that God will provide for you, what is that going to do for you? Nothing. Trusting in God is the most important thing you can do. I'm not saying it's easy. I personally have doubted Him several times, especially during the rough times. But now I've come to look at those times as a test instead. It really helps to be challenged.

What ever happens, if you are prepared or not, remember this simple bible verse: "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

What do we have to fear?

Proverbs 31:17

Posted in Biblical Verses

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. (Proverbs 31:17, NIV)

If I could attach a poll to this entry, I'd ask questions like this:

1. When you think of a mother, do you think

a. Stupid Job

b. Wonder Woman

c. Sluggard

2. Have you seen a commercial on tv that portraits women that work as strong?

a. No

b. Don't remember

c. Yes

3. What do you think our culture says that women should be?

a. Corprate, High Salary, Worker

b. Homemaker

c. Something to look at

Ou culture says that women should go to school, go to college, get a high paying job, marry, never spend time at home, hate being with your kids for more than a day, spend alot of money on pampering yourself, etc. It's about ME, ME, ME!

But is that biblical?

Titus 2:5 says "(teach the younger women) to be self-controled, to be busy at home...."

Did you catch that? "To be busy AT HOME". God wants us women (and girls) to work at home! Sadly so many people - even pastors - encourage women to get jobs. Older women should teach younger women and girls to work at home instead of telling them to go to college. Don't get me wrong. College in and of itself is really good. I love to learn new things. But what you do after college and even during college sometimes will affect the rest of your life. I was lucky enough to have parents that taught me that being a mother is a very good occupation.

If you would like to learn more from Titus, there is a bible study called God's Priceless Women that I found very thought provoking.
