Hunting With my Family

When you get close to game, it is exciting. Hunting isn’t only about excitement, it is also about family life. The way hunting affects our lives is by giving us stories and jokes to tell, and quality time together.

In my family part of having fun is joking with one another. My best hunting joke is when we came home from hunting javelina. My grandpa stayed at home and met us when we got back. Grandpa was excited to see what we had. We had to make our faces straight, while we told him we had no luck. Grandpa was disappointed, saying, “You’ll get one next time.” We unpacked, saving the ice chest for last, to show him two javelina inside. Grandpa was surprised, I was happy.

Hunting lets me spend time with my brothers, parents and grandpa. I see my brothers every day. At the hunting lease you can make up new games to play. Not all games are new, some games like hide and seek are fun because the land is big. I think my mom likes sitting and reading in the woods, that makes her happy, and that makes me happy. I can be by myself with my dad while we’re hunting.

I like hunting with my grandpa. I get to spend time with him and learn from him. He’s also lucky. On October thirty-first, 2004, while I was with him, I shot my first buck, a four point. The time I spend with Grandpa now is memorable because he is sick and may not be around long.

Telling stories, joking and spending time together, this is all part of hunting in my family.

I hope you just read the wining essay, we'll find out affter November 15.

I like your essay. It was very good. I've never entered an essay contest, but I've entered a wildlife art contest. I drew a deer in a conrnfield, but I didn't win. My Dad just posted a blog entry about hunting earlier tonight. You can see it at www.homeschoolblogger.com/homeschooldad/ .

Nov. 16, 2005 - Wow, we were just talking about javelina at dinner....

Posted by ByHisGraceInColorado

My sister lives in AZ and they had 20 or so javelina in their yard a few weeks ago. So I was telling my kids about it. We also had a hunting discussion, we just got back from an 8 day hunting trip where my 13 yo daughter hunted for the first time with her dad. So your mom likes to go too? Wow, I could use a buddy :)
I don't know any other mom's besides me that likes to go. We want to invite some more families with some mom's who would like to hunt, and "rotate" staying in camp with the kids. My son said he wasn't sure he would feel safe though, with someone who couldn't shoot as good as I could if a bear showed up in camp. LOL. That made me a proud mama.
Now I think I will go visit your Mom's blog ~
