I know I have been quite lax with my posting. While I will try to get better about it... I just HAD to post an urgent prayer request. My best friend from high school just became a Grandma (yippee!!!). Unfortunately, baby Christian was born with a heart defect that required him to endure open heart surgery at less than one week of age. PLEASE add her blog to your list of blogs to frequent and keep Christian, his mommy and daddy (Nicole and Bryan), and extended family (especially my friend, Denise) in your prayers. While it does sound like he's improving, he's not entirely out of the woods yet. Thanks... and please be the awesome prayer warriors I know you are! http://www.babywithefe.blogspot.com/ Kit New Beginnings

We've begun another homeschool year. So much has changed since my last posts. Rather than take up time to play catch-up, I'll catch you up on recent happenings and hope to switch to more of the homeschool-related blog. I will say that we moved into the new house toward the end of April and we are loving our little piece of Heaven. We regularly see wild rabbits, all sorts of birds, and deer. The neighbor even told us that the elk move through when the herd migrates in the fall. This year, our school looks absolutely nothing like it has looked in the past. I don't feel I'm the most organized person, so a "curriculum in a box" always seemed like the only way to go. I would hear moms at our homeschool meetings talk about using this curriculum for math and that curriculum for science. I would talk of my need for an outlined program and they would just smile and offer support for what I was doing. I am trying to take more of a cue from my children, learning what interests them. I had our first day planned, and the night before we started, we had a spectacular lightning storm. The kids had just gone to bed when it started, so I went back and gave them the option of sticking with our plan (a unit study on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) or getting up to watch the lightning and then studying it for the next few days. Suffice it to say... they stayed up with me until 10:40 watching the lightning and talking about it. We decided to watch the "Molly, An American Girl" movie the other night (nothing to do with school). This sparked conversation on rationing and how things were different for people during WWII. At the library, I found Molly's Cookbook and told my dd she was to choose a recipe, make a shopping list, and prepare the dish on the weekend. She chose "Volcano Potatoes" and made it for the family last night. They were a huge hit. I love seeing her confidence in the kitchen growing. As I was telling my mom about this, she told me she still has a ration book with her name on it and some coupons from when she was a girl. I never cared for history (at least reading about it in a book), but this bringing history alive sure makes a world of difference and even I am getting interested! Overwhelmed and Upset

I would really like to ask my dear friends for prayer over the next couple of weeks. We are in the middle of packing our current house and plan on having tonight be our last night here. Last night my daughter came to me and said, "I need a great big mommy hug." Typically when she says that, her brother has done something to hurt her. As soon as I asked what was wrong, the flood gates opened. She said she is having a hard time seeing all our stuff packed up. Please pray for peace and calm right now, especially for the kids. She has lived in this house since she was 2 years and 3 months old. Our son was born into this house. I can understand the difficult emotions they are struggling with. We have wonderful memories here, but I know the new house will allow us to make new memories, too. We have issues with water under the house and the builder is threatening to delay us further. Please pray that it would dry out. Thanks so much! K. Thought for the new week

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: Give me a light. that I may tread safely into the unknown. And he replied: Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way. -Minnie L. Haskins Caught in a whirlpool (at least it feels like it!)

Boy. I can't believe it has been so long since I've updated my blog. I have had a couple of people e-mail and ask what is going on, so I figure I'd better jump in here and try and post an update. So much has happened since my last post, but I'll attempt to make it as concise as possible. February 1 we listed our (current) house with a realtor. It showed an average of once a day until 20 days later, we got an offer. We countered, they countered, we countered, and they accepted! The terms were wonderful and we hardly reduced our price at all. We made it through the home inspection and agreed to take care of 4 items. 3 of the 4 are now complete and the 4th is being worked on (we are replacing the window in the master bedroom due to the seal failing on the current one). We hand keys over on March 26. We have another unit from PODS sitting in our driveway. Wow, do I ever love that company! We are busily packing and loading up the PODS unit. Our goal is to make next Wednesday, March 21 our last night in the house. That will give us a few days to finalize everything, clean, mow the lawn, etc. Plus, it allows us to get settled in the travel trailer while dh is off work. The new house is coming along beautifully. We started painting (interior) on 3/1 and took about a week to get it done. I think the colors are beautiful. I am too tired to post any pictures right now. Maybe I can get to that sometime soon (then again with our upcoming schedule, maybe not). They have put our cabinets and countertops in as well as the vinyl flooring. Monday the plumbing fixtures go in. Wednesday they do more electrical. Friday is trimwork. The following week is carpet and finishing touches! They've got the "final trim" date set for Friday, March 30. So, it appears we will be in the travel trailer for about 2 weeks. I think we will survive. Maybe the next time I get a few minutes to post, I will tell about God's perfect timing with the listing and subsequent sale of our house. God is GOOD! :) K. { Last Page } { Page 2 of 14 } { Next Page } |
