10-8-2007 - The Stones Will Cry Out

"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."
Luke 19:37-40 (NIV)

Several months ago, I made a joke about how if we couldn’t find a praise band to play at our youth worship service that I would just bring my rock collection and put it on the stage. But over the past few weeks I’ve begun to look at this verse in a new way. This new way being that, even if we as Christians “keep quiet” about the Genesis Flood and the age of the Earth, the stones will not.
So what do I mean by the stones will not keep quiet about the Genesis Flood and the age of the Earth? I mean that the stones you walk on every day are a testimony to the great catastrophe that befell this Earth only some four thousand years ago! “How so?” you ask. Well, suppose you take a coke bottle, fill it up with water, mix a bunch of different types of soil into it, and let it sit for a few weeks. What will happen? You will get a bunch of different layers, just like you see in the world today! But you say, “Hasn’t science used radiometric dating to prove that these stones are millions of years old?” False, Radiometric dating is based on assumptions. For example, we assume that the decay rate of the parent isotope has remained constant since the rock was formed. In fact, it’s quite impossible for some rocks to be millions of years old. During the decay process helium is released. Now if the rock were real millions of years old then one would not expect to find any helium left in the rock since helium would migrate out of the rock quite quickly. But you do find helium! This is evidence of a young earth, since the helium would migrate out of the rock in 4000-8000 years.
Now if there really was a world wide flood what would the evidence be? Billions of dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water. And when we look at the world what do we see? Billions of dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water! So if the whole Earth was suddenly flooded what kinds of fossils would you expect to be common? Marine (e.g. fish, shells, coral, etc.)! And guess what? 95% of fossils are marine organisms!
As I hope you can see, from the very FEW, things I’ve mentioned here, that the stones we see every day support the Genesis Flood and a young earth as told in the Bible. In fact, bringing the flood in to our way of thinking, we can provide explanations for things such as the Ice Age, Plate Tectonics, and some of the strange geological formations (e.g. Ayers Rock, Devils Tower, etc.) we see today. The Bible says “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” So you chose my friend. Will you keep quiet, or will you proclaim the miracles of the LORD? But as for me,

Ain't no rock gonna cry in my place!

the verse says:
And He answered and said unto them,
I tell you that, if these should hold their peace,
the stones would immediately cry out.
