Feb. 20, 2009 - Money for Idiots and update on anti-Semitism

Posted in Politics

I read David Brooks' column entitled Money for Idiots in today's NY Times.  Brooks, who passes for a conservative voice at the Times--and only in such a milieau might that actually be true--doesn't disagree with my assessment of the housing program idea.  But he thinks it's necessary anyway.

I'm generally leery of arguments that agree with common sense in theory but then seek a different application in real life.  Don't we call that a slippery slope?  Yes, I agree abortion is wrong BUT.  Yes, I think marriage is forever BUT.  Sure, credit card debt is bad BUT.    You get the idea.

And in other news, you really gotta watch the Obama admin on the weekends.  Rendition as an option was announced on a weekend.  If Obama has to dump it in the news at a less conspicuous time to avoid left leaning ire, I'm still in favor.  Heartens me that the daily threat briefings may be having an effect on his thinking.

Last weekend, though, was an equal and opposite dump.  Beware of anything released at 7pm on a Saturday night!  Should the US really have anything to do with conferences steeped in anti-Semitism and limiting free speech rights?  I don't think so either.
